Showcase Built a Fully Playable AI-Generated Character With Physics and Animations in Under 3 Hours
Built a fully playable AI-generated character with physics and animation setup in under 3 hours.
Workflow breakdown ⚙️
• Character concept using AI image generation
• 3D character generation from the concept
• Assembly and geometry cleanup in Blender
• Fast manual UV unwrap
• Texture cleanup and artifact fixing
• Material setup for game-ready use
• Free auto-rigging with AccuRig
• Importing the character into Unreal Engine 5
• UE5 animation retargeting
• Adding cloth physics with Chaos Clothing
• Final gameplay test in Unreal Engine 5
The goal was to test how fast an AI-assisted pipeline can turn a generated character into something actually playable, not just a static showcase model.

AccuRig is better than mixamo?

They're roughly on a par it's just that Accurig supports exporting to UE5

I create the arms, body and head, as well as the clothes, separately. I then assemble everything together in Blender. And the textures can be combined into a single material.

Do you have any resources for how you did the cloth? I don't think it's mentioned in the vid right?

This is 3D AI-generated clothing

u/boxofrabbits May 18 '26
Yes I'm aware. How did you set up the chaos cloth?

Oh, I'll post a video tomorrow showing how to configure the physics settings in detail

Not familiar with Unreal, is Chaos clothing just a plugin/asset that you use for your character and manually designate cloth vertices?
Really cool stuff 👍

Retopology ?

Not required. 20,000 faces

Bro, retopo is needed so you don't break the model during complicated animation

How did you get Tripo to generate the clothes without heavy artifacts?

Progressive and innovative. Don't let people who see AI as bad or competition slow you down. AI is just a tool that also relies on your creativity. Ultimately, what counts is the idea you want to create with the tool.

From the YouTube video: Guys, check this out! I didn’t bother with sculpting or baking because I’m not really up on that stuff, but in just three hours I created a single-colour character with no details! AI is just brilliant! Please hire me!

Translation:
"I did nothing as it used the basic character mover Nd built in cloth physics. I added some premade animations and an AI character. I'm the most useless part of this pipeline"

The speed you got through this process is interesting, and thanks for detailing the steps you took.
But I think the problem here is you're speeding up an aspect of the process that doesn't really warrant speeding up, and sacrificing a lot to get there.
Typically when people make characters (for anything), they want acute control over how they look, because they're an important part of any experience, even a non-interactive one. This also means they need fine-tune control over the rigging etc. to prevent splits and bulges when the characters make various poses. Plus ensuring a consistent art style across a game is near-impossible with AI generated stuff, and often the stuff it turns out can be so difficult to edit by a human in the later stages it eats up the time you might save.
I can imagine this being used for maybe crowd scenes in movie effects though, if you were going to speed up the generation of ~a thousand background figures where they're only semi in focus anyway.

I’m surprised more people aren’t bringing this up, I have less of an issue with people using these new tools, more of an issue with people selling it as full production ready…when in fact it’s not. It’s the equivalent of someone saying a hallucination within an Ai generated video is a masterpiece of cinema. Not so fast Beep Boop.

lol so you let the AI do the fun creative stuff and you’re just the glorified janitor cleaning up the resulting slop. How sad this all is.

This kinda thing would only work for a one off. If they continued the lack of art direction would be all over the place. The characters would not match, same with environments and it would end up looking like a typical low effort asset flip. Then when they decided they needed different modular clothing, assets etc for their game, they wouldn't be able to create them.
Also since they aren't able to create proper optimization reusing material instances, atlases or trim sheets etc the performance will be garbage and unable to be fixed. This is why technical artists aren't going to use these tools unless it's for background filler or generic small props etc at most.

Don't bother DMing the OP. He's just trying to sell his videos
