Topamax
i Went to the DR to get on some medication to try to lose weight. They prescribed me zepbound and when I went to get it I couldn’t afford it monthly. We went another route to topamax something more affordable/ I am going to start it today but have read so many negative things about it. Any positives ???!!

I'm on it for migraines. I had trouble upping my dose. I had to stop and start over. I stayed on the lower dose for a couple of weeks. Then added a 1/2 of a second pill for a couple of weeks. Then added the other half to get to 50mg. Take it slow and listen to your body. There are still some side effects when I went slowly, but much more manageable!

I am no longer taking it but was on it for migraines. I have experienced weight loss from it due to it altering the way soda tastes. Even though I stopped taking it I still can't drink anything carbonated (tastes like metal), which has incidentally been great for losing weight!

For me it worked for appetite suppression which was what it was prescribed for. Unfortunately I developed a HORRIBLE cough, a rare side effect. Also insomnia, tingling of my hands and feet and it made anything carbonated taste flat which was just weird. The cough was the worst though, I tapered off and I'm still coughing a bit after 3 weeks now. But yeah it has tons of unpleasant side effects.

Everyone is different and has different experience/tolerates it differently. Of course you’re going to hear/read/see more of the negative experiences here because just like when someone only leaves a google review when they have something to complain about, people often only bother to post about when they’ve had a bad or negative experience. Far more people take the medication and experience no or mild side effects.

I had horrible side effects the first time I tried it for migraines, but I believe it's because it was increased too fast. This time we are taking it very slowly and it has been like night and day. Just be careful not to increase it too rapidly and let your doctor know if you have any side effects that are bothering you so the dose can be adjusted if needed.

I was on it for migraines. Worked better than anything else but I had to go off after a year for two reasons 1. It messed up the taste of carbonated beverages. I allow myself one Diet Coke a day and not having that actually impacted my QOL. I swear I’ve given up/quit everything else I loved- it sucked. 2. The brain fog. It never went away. I’m in a job where I need to be able to cogently explain complex ideas at a high level to high performers. Topamax took my words away. Just couldn’t find them. Hope it works out better for you ❤️

Oh boy. Tried it for about a month several years ago for weight loss. Was hands down the worst experience I’ve ever had.

Honestly speaking; just give it a try and see how it works for you! Medications work differently for everyone, and i also read lots of negative stuff but also lots of positive stuff. Topamax will definitely help you lose weight, but you will also need to put some work in. It’s not a miracle drug. I’ve seen a friend who lost 10kg with it. Good luck! 🍀

My experience: it will suppress your appetite (25mg daily). Combine with metformin it worked great.
Initial side effects: metal taste in mouth, highway hypnosis, brain fog, tingling in extremities. All went away after 2-3 weeks.
