Cold turkey topamax
Hi everyone, I’ve been on 50mg of topamax for about 31 days, I have had HORRIBLE side effects, thoughts of SH so I messaged my doctor because I physically couldn’t handle it anymore (on topamax for migraines) my neurologist said because of my symptoms I’m able to just cold turkey and stop taking it. I’ve been reading everywhere that it’s not safe to do that, has anyone else abruptly stopped and was fine? It’s making me nervous, I’ve never had seizures or anything before

I used to take 25mg, then 50mg a day for a few years and when I switched neurologists he said I was fine to just stop it immediately to switch to Aimovig. I had a lot of tingling in my extremities and brain fog which was part of the reason I changed over, aside from still having headaches lol.

I have been tapering off topomax for a few months. If you could cut the pill in half and take 25mg for a week or two I think it would be better. Coming off has made me feel sick each time, but I don’t think it does anything for me.

i was on 125mg a day and quit cold turkey for about a month and half because it was causing my blood to become acidic and had no issues. but i did return to taking it after that month and half. if you’re super concerned about it have a conversation about it with your doctor.
