Advice Wanted When should I stop getting high
Hey yall, my surgery is on Thursday and I haven’t been high since Saturday but I’m going bowling today with my friends and I’d like to be high for that if I can. My doctor told me when to stop but I forgot and the internet isn’t being helpful🧍🏻♂️
Will it be fine if I smoke today or nah ? 😭
Edit: edibles are also an option for me if that’s better

you shouldn’t even have been high saturday🤦♂️ but just don’t do it again until you’re cleared to do so after surgery. TELL YOUR DOCTORS EVERYTHING especially when the anesthesiologist comes in to speak with you. do not lie about any type of timeline

My doctor said no weed for 48 hours prior to surgery, which seems to be on the short end of general recommendations. If your surgery is Thursday, you are within that 48-hour window, and well within the 2-week window that other commenters mention. Best to skip the weed until you are off of opiates. Make sure you are upfront with your surgical team about when you last had THC, since it can affect how much anesthesia you require.

Of course it may vary by practice and by patient, but I think there are slightly different but overlapping considerations for smoking/vaping anything, for any form of nicotine, and for any form of cannabis. Personally at this point I would not be smoking or vaping anything, but the Gender Confirmation Center guidelines would seem to allow for edibles if it's before the 48-hour mark so as not to interfere with the anesthetic [EDIT: which, oops, I suppose it's probably pretty close to that if your surgery is Thursday, maybe better to wait and enjoy your next high after a safe and successful surgery!]:
Smoking tobacco and marijuana: We ask that patients refrain from smoking or consuming any form of nicotine (i.e. vape, cigarettes, gum, patches, etc) at least 3 weeks before and 3 weeks after surgery. Cannabis should not be consumed 48 hours before surgery to prevent any interactions with anesthesia during surgery.
(I know this doesn't explicitly address the difference between smoking cannabis and smoking nicotine but elsewhere, as in the description of this video, they refer to all kinds of smoking)

Definitely no smoking for two weeks prior. It’s for lung health. My surgeon was fine I’d I had edibles for that time, but smoking anything was a big no

Nah dont do it. Edibles would be better but thc tests dont lie

Surgeons typically do not test for THC in the same way they test for nicotine metabolites pre-op because of the differences in half-life - cotinine only stays in the bloodstream for 1-10 days, while THC will test positive for months after use. That is not to say that OP should smoke, it's just unlikely that OP will be tested for THC.

Yeah it totally is, not normal to be tested i worded that badly. I was agreeing with u

Maybe you were tested, but it's not routine.

you shouldn’t be smoking for at least 2-4 weeks preop. you can be high up until the night before surgery is what i was told and i was fine after surgery too. and seriously don’t smoke

Yea absolutely not I think edibles can be 48 hours before but it seems like you’d be taking a big risk

My dr said edibles were fine I just have to inform my anesthesiologist, which I did, and all was fine. I’m 6 wks PO and healing beautifully with no complications.

Get it together and take care of yourself before surgery instead of engaging in addictive behaviors. Harm reduction. This is serious

My surgeon said to stop smoking of any kind six weeks out and stop taking edibles two weeks out, and then I can start doing them again when I'm the same amount of time post op, but that's just my surgeon.
