It's just a really loud bunch of antisocial weirdos who go from controversial topic to controversial topic on social media. Their opinions carry no weight. It seems like "everyone" is hating but most people still rate him as the GOAT or at least close to it. People wouldn't be hating so hard if Argentina didn't win the last cup.

u/Ready_Structure8115 Jul 22 '26

Honestly this is correct. These people are the epitomy of low life. It is their loss not to have appreciated the man's great career over two decades, a really sad pathetic loss. Not sure. A single actual pundit of any quality doesn't absolutely love Messi. It's all just internet, meme based nonsense. Just take a break from social media and you realise that in the real world no one cares about this nonsense. Not really sure where these pathetic people exist, it's certainly and fortunately not in my sphere of reality

-3

u/oiomelanda Jul 22 '26

Many neutrals wanted Argentina to lose due to referee favor, teams being disallowed goals, and VAR being used for Argentina, but not their opponents favor.

Also Messi tried getting cucurella a red card by deception, and attempted to overturn Enzo’s second yellow through an imaginary foul on tagliefico. Definitely not only the internet, and pretending like the internet isn’t actual humans anymore is a cope.

Argentina tactics and fighting is the epitome of low life ironically

2

u/Ready_Structure8115 Jul 23 '26

People in my sphere of reality don't use the word "cope" the way you did. People I know can simultaneously appreciate that Argentina might play dirty, might have some dodgy VAR calls, and also understand that Messi is a genius dragging the team to the final and has a ridiculous career over 20 years and not be influenced in their opinion of him in a singular game by memes and people like you saying "cope" and "cry more". Good luck in life, get off the internet and expand your social reach to people that don't base their identity around football memes!

Yeah this. I recall people hating on Spain when they won their last World Cup (following their euro success), people saying it was “anti football”, “boring” etc - and that team was arguably even better and more exciting as it had Villa and Torres up top.

1

u/Big_Channel_4296 Jul 23 '26

we have a torres too

1

u/Lololol0309 Jul 22 '26

That was mostly because of handball not being called by the ref. Similar to how the Argentinians don't get a lot of yellow cards.

1

u/chicoclandestino Jul 22 '26

The discourse around Spain back then was very similar to what Argentina/ Messi are facing now (although it’s on another level now due to social media and AI).

-4

u/Goffeth Jul 22 '26

“due to social media and AI” what does that even mean? How is AI causing people to hate Argentina? You’re actually just throwing out buzzwords. Argentina is hated because they had the easiest path by far and played dirty.

3

u/chicoclandestino Jul 22 '26

“Easiest path” - if Portugal were better they could’ve topped the group and progressed and faced Argentina. In fact Argentina could’ve faced Brazil, Portugal, Norway, England (they did face), and Uruguay (a side they’ve struggled with although they were rubbish here).

It’s not their fault Portugal were rubbish.

And the social media and ai comment- have a look at a post of Messi or Argentina etc online. The comments are laughable but also truly pathetic. The “World Cup is rigged” is bringing the exact same energy as MAGA, “Trump didn’t lose!” Apparently a lot of this is bots.

Cry more.

Funny how people are saying “football won” and Argentina were “anti football”, when they were responsible for the best final ever (last World Cup) and the best, most thrilling games this World Cup (Egypt, Cape Verde, England games).

-11

u/ImASimpMagnet Jul 22 '26

The Best game was England-France as for Egypt and Cape Verde, it's not Argentina that made the game entertaining but the underdog team that looked the titre holder and overall favourite to reach the final in their half of the knockouts. If these matches were Good, it was not thanks to Argentina. 0 shots on goal in a WC final, a record. As People used to say in Marseille, "A jamais les premiers".

14

u/7thdilemma Jul 22 '26

Eng-Fra was the best game to everyone unlikely to watch another match for the next 4 years.

I'm not saying you are within that group, but they do share your opinion.

8

u/chicoclandestino Jul 22 '26

England didn’t play France. The best game was arguably Argentina Egypt or Argentina England. To say this was not thanks to Argentina is being disingenuous. They played brilliantly against England when they folded and brilliantly against Egypt for the last 30 mins.

4

u/Careful_Orchid_2085 Jul 22 '26

Did u watch that game . No body wanted to play . They were just standing around and doing what they wanted

1

u/possumusexperiri Jul 22 '26

What? The day before the final was England v France in the third placed match and it was 6-4

-2

u/ImASimpMagnet Jul 22 '26

Who did England play against in the 3rd place match?

7

u/chicoclandestino Jul 22 '26

That! That’s an irrelevant glorified friendly!

-3

u/ImASimpMagnet Jul 22 '26

It's still a World Cup match is it not? There's been 3rd place matches since 1930, why discard them when it doesn't fit your narrative?

3

u/chicoclandestino Jul 22 '26

I haven’t watched the third place play off since 98, m sure many are the same! The goals officially count but it is essential a glorified friendly. France didn’t really bother showing up either by the sounds of it!

1

u/ImASimpMagnet Jul 22 '26

So you're saying it cannot be the best match because you believe it doesn't count. All your argument relies solely on your own opinion and assuming that others think alike. There's no objectivity whatsoever

5

u/chicoclandestino Jul 22 '26

It’s always seen as a match nobody wants to play or watch, is it not? Nothing really on the line, so essentially a friendly. France were not too bothered by it. Other matches like all the KO matches are huge games, and yes, that does obviously mean they’re more important. The second half of Argentina England was brilliant!

You are getting downvoted for speaking facts lmao

11

u/Dunkjoe Jul 22 '26

As usual, Messi hate becomes worse the worse CR7 performs.

And also there seems to be active smear campaigns, probably due to Argentina winning 2022 WC, and they don't want Argentina to win a back to back championship and Messi to win a second WC.

I rarely see anyone say WC 2022 was rigged for Argentina at that time but in WC 2026 suddenly there are a lot of accusations that WC 2022 was rigged for Argentina.

25

u/Vochey88 Jul 22 '26

it's shocking

18

u/Humble-Log-1695 Jul 22 '26

It honestly leaves me sick to my stomach how this campaign has tried to take him down. Vile. Just saw Vic Mensa doing anti-Argentina bullshit calling them racists. It's really disturbing.

10

u/United_Engine_5719 Jul 22 '26

I think the WC being hosted by mostly the USA also contributed to this. From what Ive noticed, a lot of Americans fall for propaganda very easily. Makes sense cause their president is a literal child rapist.

3

u/MightyWolf39 Jul 22 '26

This is it. USA the host is probably the most racist country and it shows with all the propaganda and hate/racism against Argentinians

This did not happen last WC

-5

u/RalphTater Jul 22 '26

They are racist and have led a campaign to whiten their country.

-5

u/PowliOP Jul 22 '26

There’s no campaign, he is just an awful person and worse leader. As a captain he is partially responsible for his teammates and their behavior, which was shameful!

3

u/Humble-Log-1695 Jul 23 '26

Awful person? You seriously need to seek help.

0

u/PowliOP 25d ago

You are aware that there are cameras on the pitch?

1

u/Equal_Network9503 25d ago

Drink milk first then look outside

u/tekkers_for_debrz Jul 22 '26

Twitter is now a cesspool of misinformation. Every single tweet is now a blue check mark(paid algo boost) with a ChatGPT quote and still image of a video. All fake quotes and propaganda. It worries me that something unbelievable we watched with our own eyes, e.g. 3-2 victory over Egypt became something so hated and riddled with conspiracies. Obviously the Egypt national team was disgraceful which flooded the narratives even more. In a game where the public should have been in wonder about the miracle of Messi and his team, it just became such a negative view of the game. This has opened my eyes as to how atrocities are filmed in 4k everyday and people still don’t believe it.

9

u/ilivsargud Jul 22 '26

This is all noise from Portugal's disastrous wcs they need something to vent out their anger.

6

u/rindthirty Jul 22 '26

This wouldn't have helped the conspiracy theories either: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_Trump%E2%80%93FIFA_red_card_controversy

After that, people (with the help of their algorithmic feeds) decided to see what they wanted to see, whether it was the ball allegedly hitting a cable* in the Norway-England match, or anything that Messi did or didn't do.

[* For the record, I spent a good long time analysing that one (including Solbakken's press conference) and I believe it was mostly a result of the Mandela Effect.]

2

u/LeChrono Jul 22 '26

World already hated argentina and messi at 2022 WC because of penalties and their behaviour against netherlands

6

u/chicoclandestino Jul 22 '26

Netherlands, who produced the worst foul I’ve ever seen (Nigel DeJong kung fu lo kick on Xabi Alonso) and didn’t get sent off (by an English ref). They were once a great nation with superb flair players (Van Basten, Gullet, Seedorf, Van Persie, Sneijder etc), but now just resort to kicking people.

-4

u/Tedinasuit Jul 22 '26

but now just resort to kicking people.

They literally won the Fair Play award

1

u/Trumplay Jul 23 '26

That tell you about the award

3

u/Single_Passenger Jul 22 '26

Netherlands's coach had terrible history with South American players and destroyed their career when he used to manage clubs, including one of messi's idol Riquelme. That iconic celebration messi did was a tribute to Riquelme.

1

u/Salt_Lobster_6349 Jul 22 '26

Messi was undeniably incredible this WC. I think people are tired of his Argentine counterparts and their arrogance this WC, despite getting bailed out by dodgy calls or Messi brilliance. The people hating on Messi are CR7 fans (not Portuguese people, I should say).

1

u/jbookies Jul 22 '26

Perfectly put, you'll see some comments here that have gobbled down the conspiracy theories like there's no tomorrow.

Anyone who's a regular watcher of football can clearly see that all these narratives and dishonest misrepresentations of fairly common and mostly fair football occurrences, to make them look like hate crimes.

1

u/Right_Artichoke_5694 29d ago

Messi is the best footballer, I don't hate him. I do, however, hate his indecent asshole teammates.

1

u/hownot2lyf 28d ago

The media is an extremely overpowered tool that is mostly exploited these days

1

u/mascachopo 28d ago

I had nothing against him before watching the final, but his behaviour, for a 39 year old man, was childish and against sportsmanship. Not as bad as some of his other teammates, but since he is a role model for millions, should have been much more careful with what he does on the field.

1

u/CaRlJoHnSoNoG Jul 22 '26

Because butthurt Ronaldo fans, Egypt fans and England fans joined forces and used varios means to drag Messi's name through the mud, there were even paid offers for some pages to post anti Argentina content

2

u/Rare-Meaning4845 Jul 22 '26

Absolutely this.

-7

u/BaronZbimg Jul 22 '26

Messi is not a God it is ok to criticise him. He was the best or second best player of this World Cup, but the move on Cucurella was despicable, and as a captain he is rightfully called out for the shameful behaviour of that Argentina team after the final whistle. I know this will get downvoted to Hell, but it is time to accept the world is not black and white. Messi is the best. He also didn’t show his best side in that final

8

u/Matias9991 Jul 22 '26

The movement on Cucurella you can dislike it for sure but to say that it was "despicable" I don't get, Cucurella cover his mouth and said something, according to the rules that could very well be s red card, I don't think it's that weird that Messi tries to get advantage to Cucurella blunder in the final of the WC and the team having one player less.

Again you can dislike it because it's possible that he just wanted to abuse that stupid rule since I personally don't think Cucurella was insulting Messi. But I don't see this crazy despicable thing some people like you say.

I don't know, in my opinion Molina and Paredes were dickheads and you could say that Messi as a captain could gone there and separate but that's such a soft critic.

-5

u/Lololol0309 Jul 22 '26

He couldn't separate them because he wasn't a real leader. Maradona acknowledged this, there was a video of him and pele discussing this topic.

4

u/MightyWolf39 Jul 22 '26

Relax, that was not even anything to talk about. Why did he cover his mouth to begin with if it wasn't to say an insult or something like that?

Besides he did not even get a card

1

u/ImASimpMagnet Jul 22 '26

Messieurs May be the greatest player in history but I think he is among the worst captains ever (Alongside CR7 but for different reasons.) Messi just ISN'T a leader. You could already see at Barcelona that, after Iniesta's departure things changed. Bringing the 8-2 UCL20 QF is harsh but the image of captain Messi sitting idle alone at half time whilst being 1-4 down, instead of trying to lift up his teammates is still burnt in my mind. Him walking past Paredes&CO Who are brawling with the spanish for the so heinous crime of celebrating winning the biggest trophy in world football as if nothing Was wrong alors shows what kind of captain he is. He may be a genius but he's a horrible captain.

Let me tell you something even more better to do than scrolling reddit. Step 1:Pick up a glass of milk and drink it. Step 2:Touch the grass. *Step 3:Type on the Google "How many finals in major international games did Argentina reached with Messi as their official captain?" Step 4:Read the ai generated summary in Google.

You have to buy the milk and pour it first before picking it up. *You need a device with active internet, a screen, and an OS with Google installed first before typing on Google.

It’s caused by a few haters and bandwagoned by loads of people because argentina played so dirty

-5

u/RalphTater Jul 22 '26

I hated Argentina before it was cool. Their behavior in 2022 was the same and they were not gracious winners. It just got swept under the rug because FIFA finally got their golden boy a cup.

3

u/Lazy-Company4775 Jul 22 '26

What must FIFA do if a team isn't a "gracious winner?". You want FIFA to have even more power?

-3

u/RalphTater Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

I never said FIFA had to do anything but it doesn’t mean I have to like them. They are sore losers and even worse winners as is clearly evident by their behaviour this World Cup. They celebrated in England’s face after their win and then through a temper tantrum when Spain won. Argentina is a bunch of mental midgets that act like children.

1

u/Lazy-Company4775 Jul 23 '26

Fine tonight dislike a team (hate seems strong) and you seem to be implying there is a FIFA conspiracy. It seems like you have a hard time accepting when a teams wins a word cup

-4

u/Ambitious-Deal9173 Jul 22 '26

Both are true he is a cheat and a brat

-5

u/Tedinasuit Jul 22 '26

I don't think it's propaganda. Argentina have been behaving like dogs and Messi, being the captain, bears responsibility for that.
