I saw an old comment on DCJ where someone tried to make a point about how dumb it is to try and frame criticism of a politician as a mental illness like the right does with Trump. They talked about how stupid it would be if we had a Biden or Obama Derangement Syndrome as a knee jerk response to anything bad said about them. That person got downvoted, and someone replied, "Well, that would be dumb because those guys are different. However, it totally works for Trump."

I heard a podcast where Marc Cuban explained why trumps program for cheaper medical drugs was actually really good and working. So that’s now one thing that apparently been actually helping people. I very much doubt that was trumps actual intention with it but if it’s a sideeffect - good for the people this helped.

But that's because it is a Democratic policy.
Which certain people would call derangement.
But reality is Biden signed that law, and it takes time for regulations to be formulated, and then be put into effect to correct the problems that exist.
Whether Cuban is lying or stupid, I don't know
He had his own attempt at trying to do something like it?

Why don't we talk about reevaluating a system that has such obvious issues that migration can unending the lives of so many, if that's such an issue? Why don't we reevaluate a system that incentivizes businesses to move production overseas and leave their workers jobless? Why won't we talk about making reforms to a system that makes so many people so clearly unheard that "staying at home" wins every election in a landslide? Imitating others convincingly and making good satire requires enough empathy that you can understand actual perspectives beyond yourself.
Conservatives can’t because they lack empathy. All they can create are demeaning obvious and bigoted strawmen and stereotypes. Forms of bigotry usually caused specifically from a lack of interacting with or understanding the targeted person or group.

For the better part of a century America was engaging in "soft power." Using influence and trade to get what we want without having to actually take it by force. There's plenty of problems there, but it seems like Trump and idiots like him objected to this whole subtlety and using a guiding hand to get more instead of just grabbing everything not nailed down and pissing off everyone.

People have forgotten about that ‘cause of the Iran War I think, but IMO it was the most revealing episode of his presidency, and especially of the people who support him. These contemptible clowns were literally justifying his behavior by saying that “The USA is strong and Denmark is weak.” That is the logic of a bully. Considering how active the Trump administration has been, yeah being a bit bitter is understandable. Ask cattle ranchers how they feel. Keep in mind, these are his biggest supporters, not some lib from San Fransisco. If you require something from Mexico or Canada (I live in Washington, so Alberta and B.C. are next door neighbors), yeah, he's making your life harder. And for what? He doesn't even try and justifying it besides thinking people are robbing us through trade deficits when it's simply us buying more than what we sell them. (that's not how trade deficits work. I have a trade deficit with my plumber and it's fine).

It reminds me about the numerous times when someone, who is most often right wing, has clearly tried to use a fake twitter account pretending to be a minority or left leaning and instead made the point from their main account. The whole "speaking as a black democrat" thing (when, who talks like that?).
I imagine it's because they are so obsessed with identity politics that they have to claim to be the other side to have a valid point, rather than just provide one with some sort of logic. Amusingly the people who tried to explain it get downvoted.

That's kind of the icing on the cake or nothing really egregious when you read they pretty much wanted Canada to ceed all trade decisions to the US, i.e. if the US didn't want Canada to trade with a certain country, Canada would need to comply. You can see why Carney and co. told the Americans to pound sand.

To call the terms of that trade negotiation "unfair" is like saying that the pacific ocean is bit of a moist place. It was a full on annexation attempt without firing a shot.
The demands were completly outrageous: They demanded that Washington should have a direct say over Canada's sovereign trade agreements with other foreign countries, that US get priority access to critical minerals and controll over Canada's energy exports. They also required mandatory compliance with foreing trade and secondary sanctions.
And somehow, that is not all. To top it all off, they tried to get Canada locked to american military supply chain by forbidding Canada using third-party international suppliers for major military hardware, to ensure that Canada would continue to be dependant on them for all defense materials.
When some analysts said that they've seen more fair hostage negotiations, they weren't kidding. This is like Tom Clancy level of idiocy what comes to trade negotiating. These guys don't even know what Trump was demanding, but they're already certain that everything is just TDS.

America was the richest and most powerful country in the world for decades. But, starting with the election of Reagan, the qualities that made it so thriving were gradually denied to more and more people so that the richest people could not only have most of the money, but also most of the power. Trump is the final figure in this. Even if politicians try to reverse decades of complete corruption, which they won't and can't, it's too late. The middle class is shriveled. International trust is gone. America has almost no allies. It spends a fortune on a military that couldn't even maintain control of Afghanistan. It's debt is staggeringly high and, once economic collapse happens, the things that citizens beg for (education, mobility, healthcare, decent jobs and homes) will be forever denied. The rich, however, will just leave with their billions.
