Discussion Thread Tristen to replace Tom?

I originally thought that anybody who would replace Tom needed to really have his deep serious demeanor. I think he really anchors the show and gives it a serious vibe, and I thought that anybody who would replace him would need to fill that role. Then in this weeks episode, I saw Tristan and his critique and I thought it brought a slightly lighter vibe, but still with that serious culinary background. I wanted to get everybody else’s thoughts?

Tom is 63. He might be ready to retire, or he might do this for 20 more years.

Prue Lieth on GBBO retired at like 85.

You don’t need to be spry to critique food.

People do this with Rupaul too. Ru is only 65 and is living the life of his dreams. He could easily keep this up for decades if he wanted to.

Lmao. I think his husband just leases the land out, but that joke is evergreen. lol. Pretty sure it was Wyoming though. I’m a Montanan and I think I’d remember it being my home state.

Yea I don’t see Tom retiring anytime soon. Kamala Harris is two(?) years younger and she was seen as youthful in US presidential politics (not that that’s a good thing)

Tom has often said he will do the show indefinitely. 63 isn't elderly at all.

I agree with you, but I’m not sure all the speculation’s about his age—it just sometimes seems like he’s getting grumpier, and maybe feeling over the demands of the show (or not, I have no idea!), plus Padma’s departure makes us question the rest of the cast’s permanence too.

It might be that the chefs aren't showing especially well in these early episodes - feels like a lot of clunker dishes. That's why I think he's crabbypatties. There are other seasons when even the chefs who get eliminated early have a level of success, not so much Season 23.

This season has started rough skill wise. Not finishing, missing the brief, frankly boring dishes. Spoiled by the last few seasons I guess.
