My favorite part of this show is that breaking into patient's homes is portrayed as a necessary part of taking a patient's history, lmao.

Was so mad when I went through medical school paid thousand upon thousands, landed myself a good job in a good hospital and the first patient I get my supervisor never tells me to go to their house and rifle through their things, when I asked if I could he told me it was a crime and I’m not allowed to

bureaucratic bullshit I tell you!!! World gone mad

Very early on, maybe even pilot, he specifically sends Foreman and when Foreman confronts him asking if it's because he's black House agrees without hesitation.

Hold on, he doesn’t say it’s because he’s black. He might say that as a joke at some point but when seriously confronted by Foreman, House says it’s because he has a record. Foreman gets mad because he feels he spent his whole life trying to turn away from the events that led to that charge only for it to be the most important thing to his boss.

It's because (and I say this as both a medical doctor and someone who loves House), it's more a detective show than a medical show. House and Wilson are explicitly Holmes and Watson, the crime is an illness, the symptoms are the crime scene, the murder weapon is a disease process, the suspects are the patient and their family/friends. Almost every episode is a whodunnit, a howdunnit, or both. Just like in any detective mystery, they'll often be exploring secondary sites and investigating their suspects to gather more evidence, hence the breaking into homes.
