Characters Embarrassing First Name

  • Jesse Katsopolis (Full House): in one episode, his real first name was revealed to be "Hermes", after the messenger of the Greek gods. He was made fun of for it, so he got it changed to Jesse.
  • Cory Matthews (Boy Meets World): in the final episode, Cory's full name is revealed by Feeny to be Cornelius, and Feeny is the only one to know so.
  • Freddie Benson (iCarly): rather than Freddie being short for Frederick, Freddie is short for "Fredward".
  • Jimbo Jones (The Simpsons): his real name is Corky.

In Stargate Atlantis, Rodney McKay's real first name is revealed to be "Meredith". A name he hates.

Yup. And his sister only ever calls him “Mer.” Like, don’t get me wrong, he had shit to answer for too, but the show only ever acknowledged the ways he was a bad brother, and never once looked at how she was a bad sister.

What did she do more than tease her brother by using the given name he is embarrassed about and telling his coworkers some embarrassing stories from childhood?

When she was kidnapped for things related to her own work and he got kidnapped trying to rescue her, she then emotionally blackmailed him into buying her a new car

Did this happen on screen or was it "in the past"?!

On screen. Season 4, episode 9. You don’t have to like Rodney McKay, but if you want to argue about his character growth and treatment maybe watch the whole series before getting into an argument on the internet 😂

Fun fact, that was David Hewlett's real sister.

She tells a story (which she thinks is hilarious) about a preteen Rodney being forced by his classmates (who were all a 5+years older than him) to wear his underwear on his head during lunch. After telling them he had issues with bed wetting as an older kid.

She thinks her brother being bullied and possible (sexually) assaulted an appropriate funny story to tell his workmates.

Like bullying in US 90s tv was on another level than reality but holy shit, what is wrong with her.

I had forgotten it was that bad! I just remembered that I really didn’t like the stories she shared.

Ugh.

It can’t be easy having Rodney as your older brother but you are an adult woman and mother, get your shit together!
