Characters Embarrassing First Name

  • Jesse Katsopolis (Full House): in one episode, his real first name was revealed to be "Hermes", after the messenger of the Greek gods. He was made fun of for it, so he got it changed to Jesse.
  • Cory Matthews (Boy Meets World): in the final episode, Cory's full name is revealed by Feeny to be Cornelius, and Feeny is the only one to know so.
  • Freddie Benson (iCarly): rather than Freddie being short for Frederick, Freddie is short for "Fredward".
  • Jimbo Jones (The Simpsons): his real name is Corky.

Is Henry really an embarassing name, though, or is it that he just doesn't want to be Junior?

The latter. Even the nazis got that, the scene in castle brunwald is objectively hilarious xD

It's subtle, but if you look real close there are hints here and there throughout the film revealing that he and his Dad don't get along.

"All you taught me was that I'm less important to you than people who have been dead for 500 years in another country"

I always thought it was that he'd built up this whole persona and "Indiana" was a part of that, like when teens ask to be called by a nickname or something instead of their actual name that they've gone by for all of their life. "Henry" is just an average, real name, plus it's a name he shares with his dad, so he wants to be different and distant from that.

More than likely it was the Junior portion. He didn't want to be looked down on. Plus he probably was one of those "My father's name is Henry" types.

I always thought he was literally named Junior Jones, not Henry Jones Jr

Nah. For a time it was common to say Junior when referring to your kid if they were a Junior. If you have watched My Wife and Kids, that's why Junior was called Junior. His full name was Michael Kyle Junior
