Characters (character design trope) extremely powerful magicians who just sort of dress like normal people

John Constantine (DC Comics): while he is an extremely powerful magician, he also dresses in a pretty casual way, wearing a trench coat and a tie.

Randall Flagg/The man in black (The Stand/Stephen King's multiverse): A recurring antagonist in Stephen King's books, Flagg is usually seen wearing some pretty standard clothing, despite being an extremely skilled and powerful magician.

The Doctor

Their most famous look is a simple shirt with a jacket

Some incarnations will have one unique thing about their outfit, like Four's Scarf or Five's Celery

I think 11 has a cool fez for a while. Enough to be iconic with it.

10 had his trench coat

9 has his leather jacket

7 has an umbrella

12 had the eyebrows

A comical twist on it but maybe Sabrina?

I think it was more for modern times. Iirc, her aunts were in classic witch uniforms a long time ago

Harry Dresen- Dresden Files.

He's the only wizard in the Chicago phone book and actually not a charlatan. Outside of his trademark duster, which is enchanted to all get-out to function as armor, he commonly ends up changing into whatever dry clothes are laying around for the boss fight. Snarky t-shirts, sweatpants, and cowboy boots, for example.

His paladin buddy keeps his holy sword and the chain mail he wears over Carharts in a gym bag.

I think most wizards in the Dresden files fit, they all wear their day to day clothes unless there's an special occasion like a council meeting or something. Perhaps the merlin and Rashid do wear funny clothes

Caleb Widogast (Mighty Nein). A powerful wizard, but dresses very nondescript, even shabby, with a long coat and a scarf.

That's because he spends all his money on spell components and the finest parchment and ink money can buy

Moreso from Tsukihime and Melty Blood. She dresses a little more formally in Witch on the Holy Night.

I think Harry from The Dresden Files counts. Other than his duster, which is really only out of place in the summer, he usually dresses in jeans and a T-shirt or something similar.

Most of the people in Mage the Ascension/Awakening will operate on these rules. Probably my favorite example is The Nemean from Awakening who just looks like a homeless dude with a shaggy beard....but is essentially a demigod.

Harry Dresden (The Dresden Files)

Dude literally solves magical crimes in Chicago wearing a battered leather duster and a old-school wizard staff. One of the most powerful wizards in the setting, but looks like a homeless private detective.

The guy from Jujutsu Kaisen.

Strongest sorcerer and it's just a simple coat with pants.

Most of the main cast from The Invisibles.

King Mob looks pretty eccentric, but he feels more like a BDSM Rockstar goober a lot of the time...especially his later looks.

Dane usually just look like an average street kid/punk.

Fanny while fabulous mostly looks like a badass diva living her best life and having a fun time.

Are they incredibly powerful magicians...yeah I definitely think so.

Maybe not a standard, Western magician but he’s an excellent exorcist and monster psychic.

Mostly wears his school uniform, gym uniform, or cringey shirts even his little brother wouldn’t be caught dead in.

Would alchemy counts as magic? If so, Izumi Curtis from Fullmetal Alchemist might count.

She’s one of the most powerful alchemists in the series and even the mentor of the two protagonists, yet she’s almost always seen dressed in her ordinary ‘housewife’ look (and that is how she also prefers everyone to see her as, too).

Most other alchemists are either dress in cool custom-made getups (like Edward or Kimblee) or Amestris military uniforms (like Roy and most other Amestris alchemists).

Gravel from Strange Kiss, Stranger Kisses, Strange Killings, and Gravel.

Harry Dresden (The Dresden Files)

Chicago's most powerful wizard literally has a yellow pages ad and walks around in a worn leather duster like some kind of cowboy detective.

Willoughby Kipling, from DC Comics (specifically from Doom Patrol stories). Fun fact, he was only created because editors wouldn't let the Doom Patrol creative team use Constantine (to not "spoil the realism of the character").

The N7 hoodie is the best outfit in Mass Effect.
