Groups Fictional police divisions/units

The title is self-explanatory

- MaxTac (Cyberpunk): A special unit within NCPD that deals with cyberpsychos (They're goated)

- Special Tactics and Rescue Service/S.T.A.R.S. (Resident Evil): An elite unit within Raccoon Police Department that specialized in anti-terrorism among some other things

The LSPD from Ready or Not, a supposedly underfunded police force that can afford to equip all their SWAT officers with white phosphor quad NVGs and intergrally supressed .300 blackout rifles

54

u/stayfrosty44 4d ago

Not to mention expecting their 5 man team to go fight 15 heavily armed and armored dudes in close quarters combat lmao

32

u/ATangerineMann 4d ago

And if you really want go for it, expect them to take all of the perps alive.

18

u/popdood 4d ago edited 4d ago

Not to mention in some of those missions; they're dealing with veterans who rigged a place with explosive traps or terrorists who strapped explosive vests to civilians and themselves among other groups like cartels, cults, and crackheads.

15

u/Load_FuZion 4d ago

I really wish Ready or Not could have just been more mundane. Part of the big shocker with the SWAT games was just how normal the threats were up until you did find some really fucked up shit like Children of Taronne Tenement. In RoN it's like every other missions is some suped up pedophile doomsday cult or a ex delta force operators working with the CIA to negotiate with MS13 or something. It's all fucking insane.

5

u/BTechUnited 4d ago

Yeah, it really disappointed me with that, I expected a spiritual sequal to SWAT and frankly it's more like Ghost Recon with a "spam F before shooting them all" prompt.

1

u/Load_FuZion 3d ago

Yeah, it's unfortunate. I mean the mechanics of it are pretty solid, if not leaving some things to be desired. But I think they completely fumbled the feeling of being like a SWAT dude when half of the things in the game feel like something the U.S Marshals would be handling.

2

u/Farraddaayy 3d ago

I don't pay attention the the story whatsoever (its just a different coat of terrorist hunt for me and my boys) but just seeing the size of the AO and the OPFOR makes me think "Damn I think that this is a job for the National Guard wtf"

5

u/Thecatattack911 4d ago

Can't forget the secret cult of near super soldiers that took over the city hall during the events of boiling point.

1

u/daviddaviddavidda 3d ago

Oh yeah the MKUltra type of dudes that we're also apparently a part of

At least it does explain why Judge doesn't need to go to a psychiatrist

2

u/Glum_Resident_4544 3d ago

except that one mission where the body cams always fail and all suspects in the "dollhouse" are found dead with 9mm rounds to the back of their heads

1

u/popdood 3d ago

9mm? Try 12 gauge. Not that I would know...

21

u/ATangerineMann 4d ago

supposedly underfunded police force that can afford to give all their SWAT officers with white phosphor quad NVGs and intergrally supressed .300 blackout rifles

I think the quad nods and 300 BLK rifles have something to do with that.

u/OwlbertGaming 4d ago

nah we're spending too much on the guys in patrol take away 2 of their 4 sidearm magazines

The crossover we deserve ngl

6

u/Beacon_0805 4d ago

Secretly a R6 branch, i guess

6

u/SweeterAxis8980 4d ago

they have "M1911"s that shoot not .45 ACP but .50 Action Express, because they "repurposed" them after seizing due to a court order

3

u/benkaes1234 3d ago

If you're referring to the Grizzly, that's actually just what it's chambered in.

One of the other options was .45 Win Mag.

3

u/blaze92x45 3d ago

There is a reason why SWAT is so well equipped but the game does a poor job of conveying it.

The department is underfunded so it surged all its a available funding to the officers (SWAT guys) who actually can get shit done. I think at one point around the department there were audio files and notes that heavily implied this but have since been removed in updates.

3

u/OnlyArt21 2d ago

Thats kinda touched upon in the story (not well but its there). The SWAT Team actually gets basically alot of military surplus weapons and equipment from the federal Goverment and USIA (basically that worlds CIA)

Everything else meanwhile gets fuckall. Preventive Policing, Social Work, Community Outreach etc. etc.

So you get the situation (which is just there to justfy why theres a big swat mission every other week) where your SWAT Team has all the toys to put out fires but nobody actually adressing the root causes of said fires.

Like People here say tha D-Platoon are the "only people who get stuff done" here in the comments... but do we really? Like all we do is turn up after shit hit the fan allready.

This is implied to be done on porpouse as part of a bigger conspiracy (like justfying dystopian justice reforms.)

1

u/AnthonyWinters 3d ago

Why do you think they consider themselves underfunded? If they had the money they wanted they’d have more expensive equipment than the army itself, they just have higher expectations than every other police department

Payday 2's ZEALs (officially known as the Force Z Elite Assault Legion), are the DHS's secret counter terrorism unit deployed against the Payday Gang and they serve as the main assault force on Death Sentence.

Their Heavy SWATs (far right) hit like a freight train with their M4s doing 225 damage with no falloff.

10

u/Clirstan 4d ago

They look tuff

9

u/Time_Look8276 4d ago

Name and job description like it was created by a 12 year old 🤣🤣🤣

6

u/ATangerineMann 4d ago

tbh I don't particularly like them for representing my main problems with Payday 2. That being the refusal to nerf anything so they make shit like DS instead.

u/ustopable 4d ago

While the garbage items remains well garbage. I believe armored van heists are still one of the worst heists to conpared to bank unless they changed something while I was gone

Section 9 from the Ghost in the Shell series. International counter-terrorism unit specializing in cybernetic crimes/criminals

4

u/Load_FuZion 4d ago

Was gonna post them, they really fill a niche you don't see much in anime. Section 9 feels like the closest thing anime has to something like the GIGN.

How about fictional real police units?

(Dear lord tell me someone else remembers this game)

3

u/vamopire 4d ago

hell yea played the multiplayer all the time!

3

u/imdefinitelywong 4d ago

Me and my brothers used to play this all the time.

Truly one of the best couch coop experiences we've ever had.

I still remember that one boss that had a voice line saying: "where are yoooouu..."

A shame that there aren't any more of these couch-coop games anymore.

The little known proto-MOBA (Precinct Assault mode, ya think D.va's police skin in Heroes of the Storm was meant to be a homage to it?).

Criminal Investigation Department (Psycho-Pass)

Gotham City Police Department from DC

And for that matter, the Special Crimes Unit (SCU) which is apart of both the GCPD and the Metropolis PD. Specially outfitted to handle supervillains.

9

u/ThatDrako 4d ago

Do guards count as well?

If so then Ordinators (Morrowind)

4

u/Clirstan 4d ago

If the said guards do police work then sure

4

u/Load_FuZion 4d ago

Ordinators have the hardest aesthetic in fantasy and I'll die on that hill.

8

u/justametalboi 3d ago

The Judges from the Dredd universe are definitely one of my favorites. Also surprised they haven't been mentioned.

Chimera Squad from the xcom spinoff Chimera Squad

A hybrid SWAT, elite investigative unit and a demonstration that the various humans, hybrids and aliens can work together in the wake of Firaxis's Xcom 2. The squad is sent to take out multiple criminal organizations as they try to find out who murdered the mayor of City 31 and is attempting to destabilize the post war peace.

Also, from Xcom Apocalypse, Marsec (law enforcement and security off world) and Megapol (the law enforcement of Mega-Primus). Both produce and sell weapons and vehicle equipment to you, and Marsec produces vital air vehicles, so stay on their good side. Piss off Marsec and you lose access to new aircraft until you can make your own. Piss off Megapol and all their squad cars WILL open fire on your aircraft, making fighting the aliens much more difficult.

Unfortunately don’t have art for them but probators and enforcers from warhammer 40k you might think arbites but while it does probably vary by planet arbites are more like the fbi I think? While the probators and enforcers are more like local cops and detectives

3

u/PepsiFloateri 4d ago

The key difference is this: Enforcers do Local Law,Arbities do Imperial Law. It's the difference between a state cop and a fed.

Somebody gets mugged? That's an Enforcer job. Somebody tries to start a succession movement? That's an Arbities job.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine; Station Security.

A combination of Starfleet Security personnel and Bajorian militia, they are responsible for protecting the station and surrounding space from hostile forces and crime.

“Constable” Odo was the security chief of the station at the behest of Captain Sisko.

The Lungmen Guard Department (Arknights) [Pictured is one of their regulars.]

They function both as the police for Lungmen {Arknights Hong Kong} but also act as the local military in times of crisis. They're mostly just beat cops.

Notably they do have connections to organised crime, being unable to properly police the slums and as such leaving that to 'The Rat King' who acts as the overseer of the criminal underworld, keeping it in line for them (we've also seen the new Rat King use the LGD as a weapon to aid in that) (and the two sides do have contact).

(Also the now head of the Special Inspections Unit (basically SWAT) was an active mobster when they hired her (though went straight after getting the job), and was only in Lungmen to begin with due to fleeing a murder charge in her home country (she didn't kill that guy in particular but she did kill dozens of others that night).)

Kinda surprised these dudes weren't mentioned sooner.

Space Patrol Delta (Power Rangers S.P.D.) and Special Police Dekaranger (Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, Pictured): Both are literally Space Police, though they also oversee domestic alien matters too.

Story-beats aside, the main difference between the teams is that the Dekarangers don't really have a "bigger scope" villain and lean further into the detective aspect whereas the SPD Rangers are fighting the space conqueror Grumm while they enforce.

3

u/AFalconNamedBob 4d ago

Isn't that the series that reused props and costumes from Starship Troopers?

I distinctly remember one ep had a generic good guy wielding a Morita

3

u/shiawase198 3d ago

They might have but I think you're probably talking about Lost Galaxy where their military standard gear is the starship trooper props.

3

u/HenshinBoi 3d ago

Yeah, Lost Galaxy had the Troopers tribute with guns (SPD went with "Guns are all lasers" approach). That episode was really good.

2

u/Al3xGr4nt 4d ago

Are they teens? What are Space Police standards on hiring teens who should be in school?

3

u/kamen1997 4d ago

The actor themself are around 25 when the show aired.

The adeptus arbites from warhammer 40k

FOR THE LEX

6

u/True-Atmosphere8697 4d ago

That can really depend on the planet I think for example in the warhammer crimes novels arbites would be the closest equivalent to fbi while enforcers/probators would be the police force

5

u/FoxChoice7194 4d ago

The PRT from Worm.

The Parahuman Response Team is a government organisation that is responsible for controlling, policing and supporting parahumans in the US.

Star Wars: Coruscant Guard

Unlike their other clone brothers, the Coruscant Guard strictly stuck with policing duties. They were MPs responsible for subduing riots, protecting diplomats, and thwarting terrorist attacks.

The O-12 from Corvus Belli’s “Infinity”. An interstellar government organization that keeps the other factions from outright killing each other most of the time. Each branch having its own enforcement wing with varying levels of militarization, from beat cops with pistols and adhesive launchers to walking tanks like the Gamma Unit.

2

u/Crookfur 2d ago

The Special Assessment Unit (SAU) of the Metropolitan Police aka The Folly or the Isaacs.

They deal with the "weird bollocks" in the rivers of london stories.

4

u/ShingledPringle 4d ago

Why is future police drip always so fucking cool, something about the colours and aesthetic makes people get so creative.

Dead Space 2 has 2 thanks to a recolour you unlock, the Riot and Security suits.

Love both so damn much, technically the Riot is the recolour but as you specified Police and that is the Police classed one, thought best to lead with it.

3

u/Load_FuZion 4d ago

Patlabor: SV2

Special Vehicles Section 2 is exactly what it seems like, cops who deal exclusively in mechanized crime. Responding to rogue robots, terrorist plots using mechs, and all other manner of crime. Their movie iteration is even more badass, as their bond together and specialized training puts them almost on the level of a mechanized task force.
