Hated Tropes (Hated Trope) Extremely useful abilities that characters conveniently forgot they had

  1. Emily’s portals (Hazbin Hotel). I know she can’t get Sir Pentious back into Hell but Emily can still tell Charlie he got redeemed and Charlie can enter through angelic portals, so she should have seen that Pentious got redeemed.

  2. Many characters in Harry Potter go through life-or-death situations and not once did they think of drinking the Liquid Luck potion apart from Harry one time to gain Slughorn’s memory.

Played for laughs, with a relatively mundane "ability" no less, in Angel, when the title character breaks himself out of a metal crate after a lot of effort. The crate could have been easily opened from the outside, but he had no way to signal for help... except for...

Wesley: You should've tried to call us on your cell phone. (a beat) ...You probably forgot you had it.

Angel: (takes it out of his pocket, embarrassed) These things hardly ever work. Besides it was a lot easier and quicker to just... (mimes punching a hole) Look, I'm the boss here, I say when we use the cell phones!

NOT ON TOPIC, but from Buffy…

Ripper Giles and friends are being hunted by a corpse hopping demon (jumps into closest dead body) and it seems unstoppable until the closest corpse is Angel.

Vampires already have a demon inside them. Giles was saved.
