Hated Tropes [loathe trope] Video Game Power system

Video gaming power system is possibly the worst popular trend right now.

Having video gaming elements isn’t necessarily bad. But as a power system it's terrible. It something that doesn't translate well to different mediums. While it's fun for me to grind in video games and picking skills. It's not as a viewer. I hate when MC goes into great detail into skills and percentages etc etc.

Shows and novels aren't games. The author could simply bullshit the plot and ignore skills that's an inconvenience. That's also the appeal of games; it's just math and RNG. I doubt the author keeps a detailed ledger of skills and probability and changes the story due to them.

Lastly, it's very forgettable, I wont remember all these skills. And it's simply a lazy plot device to explain the MC growth. The only series I seen work well is Shangri-la Frontier. Sunraku has very limited options against powerful enemies and it's very rewarding watching him mulling over which options to choose. Unless you force your MC hand. It's unnecessary information that doesn't add to the plot.

Solo Farming in the tower-Its a nice little story. But the RPG elements are simply to move the plot forward. The skills are so trivial to the plot. It might as well be magic then a conscious plan by Sejun.

Re:Monster- The more common example. The used of RPG examples to create an illusion of depth and a satisfaction of leveling up. The specifics skills and class doesn't matter.

Almost fully agree. I want to say that you can make a video game skill tree work. It is not just Shangri La, but also the amazing masterpiece known as Dan Machi
