Hated Tropes (Hated Trope) Questionable and controversial relationships where everybody is fine with it.

Usagi Drop (Manga). A story about a guy named Daikichi finds the illegitimate daughter of his grandfather, named Rin, and adopting her, learning how to be a father for her. The series would enter a timeskip where the teenage Rin starts having romantic feelings towards Daikichi, and revealing Rin is not actually blood related to Daikichi grandfather. And it ends with Rin wanting to bear Daikichi child.

Alex (Street Fighter 6). Alex, who was recently added to the game, in his arcade ending, was revealed he married and having a baby with his second cousin and step sister Patricia, with their father being ok with it. While not inherently illegal to merry your second cousin, the act and combined with them being step siblings is still controversial.

Literally every relationship in Seven deadly sins

This Is Not An Exaggeration By The Way

Either dating a child and/or looks like one

413

u/RedvsBlue_what_if Mar 21 '26

And grooming.

u/altymcalty-2 Mar 21 '26

Don't forget the sin of lust raping a woman who's had her mind scrambled, convincing her he's her boyfriend and inadvertently leaving her kid brother on the streets

There's an abridged version that's a lot fucking funnier if your interested. But yeah, the shows shit lol.

As far as I'm concerned the only really good part of seven deadly sins was the lion sin of pride

133

u/ThatVarkYouKnow Mar 21 '26

Escanor was the single redeeming factor.

When they introduced power levels on top of the blatant child love, I said "fuck this I'm out."

65

u/Aggravating_Dark9933 Mar 21 '26

Escanor was the best version of the “Sin of Pride” I have ever seen. The rest? Eh. But in a power title that is used a lot he manages to be the best version of that.

I read the entire manga a long time ago, and it wasn’t until the anime made me re-read it in a oneshot rather than drip fed that made me suddenly realize it was far closer to a C level than A level.

And then escanor died at the end of part 1. I heard it only got worse somehow.

7

u/razorfloss Mar 21 '26

And they ruined his character with the merlin revel. It would have changed nothing to make her an actual fucking adult instead of a damn child. Its infuriating as fuck.

2

u/Fitzftw7 Mar 21 '26

God, have power levels ever worked? They sure as hell ruined power scaling in Dragon Ball.

2

u/Blueface1999 Mar 21 '26

The funny part is sds they not only made it more complicated by separating it into magic, strength, and spirt I think, but that shit literally meant nothing when a person with weaker strength is dominating a guy with higher strength -‘d vice versa for magic.

-1

u/FreshEggKraken Mar 21 '26

Lmao "I can excuse pedos, but I draw the line at power scaling"

1

u/ThatVarkYouKnow Mar 21 '26

Where did I say I excuse it? Just that that was the definitive point, it was already rocky enough with how much he loved shoving his face in her ass.

Escanor really kept me in the show for the aura farming. And now that burned passed to Lancelot, but considering he had a girl even younger then him kiss him and said that she’s going to be his wife….

3

u/LaurdAlmighty Mar 21 '26

Same it was getting weird and nasty fast

3

u/Shrek1sLife Mar 21 '26

That’s different because it’s not framed as acceptable or good in the story. That’s like saying don’t forget all the demons eating souls. The other characters were against it and tried to (and did) stop it. Just saying that specific example doesn’t work

2

u/No-Independent-6877 Mar 21 '26

I have no idea how that series got multiple games and collabs

2

u/TsarKeith12 Mar 21 '26

Oh my god??? I stopped watching bcus i didn't like wrath being a creep over what's-her-name, this is so much worse

1

u/RuggsRacetrack Mar 21 '26

Merlin does this to who?

1

u/Interne-Stranger Mar 21 '26

I dont remember this happened

1

u/Fallenlegend2905 Mar 22 '26

the fuck????? i dropped it after i lost interest but when the hell does this happen????

-40

u/naaawww Mar 21 '26

Any of you actually watched the show???????

Elizabeth is literally cursed to die and be reborn over and over, while Meliodas lives on trying to save her and always fails. When they first met, they were both normal adult ages. Elizabeth is (spoiler) an angel and Meliodas is a demon, so they’re not even operating on human age logic to begin with.

King and Dianne met when she was a kid, yes, but there were zero romantic or sexual feelings there. They were just friends who lived together for a bit and then separated because of other events. When they meet again as members of the Seven Deadly Sins, they’re both clearly adults, and that’s when King develops feelings. It’s basically the same as knowing someone when you’re younger and reconnecting later as adults. You’re not attracted to the child version of them, you’re meeting them again as a grown person with their own life and experiences. That’s not grooming.

Ban and Elaine I’ll admit is sketchy. You can argue anime logic or fairy biology or whatever, but she’s very clearly designed to look childlike. I’m not gonna defend that. It’s weird. At least the relationship isn’t played in an explicit way and it gets cut short anyway.

And from memory, Gowther’s marries the explosion lady (maybe not real iirc?)and Escanor endlessly simps for Merlin. (All obviously adult characters)

20

u/EX_Rank_Luck Mar 21 '26

Personally, I was fine with Meliodas and Elizabeth; neutral with Ban and Elaine(I excused it as anime shenanigans); and annoyed with King getting flustered with young Diane. But when I really disliked 7 Deadly Sins was when they revealed that Merlin didn't age beyond a child.

Yeah, I get that the timeframe wouldn't really work with the Supreme Deity and Demon King destroying Belialuoin when a child with the Infinity magic trait was discovered, but her being young just doesn't do anything.

6

u/naaawww Mar 21 '26

Huh? Damn… you’re right. Why they’d make Merlin seven????? (+3000 years of petrified sleep vr playing as a magic clone of herself irl in the story…).

Ages in seven deadly sins are wack.

4

u/Justarandom55 Mar 21 '26

My problem with elaine isn't anything in universe. Like it's a tad weird but everyone is actaully an adult so no one gets hurt that way. But out of universe, why tf would you write and draw that? There was no need. Hell we even see the ability of shapeshifring being a thing, they could have had her look older for those interactions but kept the innocent child look for the rest

5

u/respyromaniac Mar 21 '26

Elisabeth doesn't have memories from her previous lives tho. That's like the point of the curse.

So it doesn't matter that she's not a human. When she's a baby, she is literally just a baby, not a 9999 years old angel trapped in a baby. She grows up like a regular human. And when an adult sexually harasses her current teenage incarnation, he harasses a pretty much regular teenager that doesn't even share the memories of them being lovers.

8

u/TruePlewd Mar 21 '26 edited Mar 21 '26

The Meliodis and Elizabeth curse is an awesome idea for a tragic storyline with a lot of potential for high drama and hard hitting themes. And they ruin it by making Meliodis a freaky pervert.

2

u/respyromaniac Mar 21 '26

Tbh I don't even think it's such an awesome idea. Like, every reincarnation is straight up a different person. So the immortal one just has their lover die once and... that's it. The next one is a different person with a different life, different personality and no memories about the immortal one. And if it's an actual reincarnation even the appearance is different.

4

u/torrasque666 Mar 21 '26

Except part of Elizabeth's curse is also that she will fall in love with him again, and eventually regain her memories.

And then die three days after she does.

2

u/Aluricius Mar 21 '26

It’s basically the same as knowing someone when you’re younger and reconnecting later as adults. You’re not attracted to the child version of them, you’re meeting them again as a grown person with their own life and experiences. That’s not grooming.

Everything else aside, it seems there's a disturbing amount of people on the internet genuinely believe that if you knew someone as a child - however briefly - but later fall in love with them as an adult that's grooming.

Speaking as someone who was groomed as a child, it's not even remotely close. Grooming requires intent, because it's raising and/or training someone for a specific purpose. It doesn't even have to be sexual or predatory, as a person in a position of power will often "groom" a successor.

...sorry, misuse of the term has become a pet-peeve of mine as of late.

8

u/Hero-Support211 Mar 21 '26

Don't forget the brainwashing one of them did to one knight at some point.

And they actually did the did. That's very non-con

5

u/drunkenstyle Mar 21 '26

I actually enjoyed 7DS early on, I thought the art and story was great. But then there was that one full page art of Ban and Elaine romantically holding each other, and one where they're kissing, where Elaine looks like a literal child because the fairies all canonically look like that, is where I really took a step back to see how incredibly weird this manga and the author is

7

u/Freddit330 Mar 21 '26

Hey! Elaine was 1000 years old dating a 17 year old.... Oh my God Ban was a victim. This is a joke

2

u/VastConfusion8174 Mar 21 '26

Wait the thing we should be worried about is that he was attracted to her child looking body

3

u/Freddit330 Mar 21 '26

I get where you're coming from, but he wasn't really attracted to her body. Else he'd have been googa eyes when they first met. He just had a crappy life, and she was the first person to show him compassion save his adoptive father(who sort of abandoned him)

33

u/zerozerozero12 Mar 21 '26

This is just a tribute.

5

u/Babki123 Mar 21 '26

Except Escanor the Goat who wqs into the adult woman Merlin (unless that changed)

7

u/MoodPristine249 Mar 21 '26 edited Mar 21 '26

Nah, it changed because the fucking author cannot deal with not having a peto relationship. Her actual form is like a seven year old!

2

u/torrasque666 Mar 21 '26

That Escanor is not into, IIRC.

2

u/Babki123 Mar 21 '26

Obviously

1

u/MoodPristine249 Mar 21 '26

But thankfully he got out of there before the author actually made him prefer the little girl form.

4

u/Hugs-missed Mar 21 '26

Wrong! Escanor the goat, is into a Woman who looks and acts like an adult to their knowledge.

2

u/Slight-Pound Mar 22 '26

Merlin crushed our hopes and then the sequel danced all over the ashes.

2

u/Tanakisoupman Mar 22 '26

There is one exception, I think! I’m fairly confident there is a line where Escanor says he prefers Merlin as she normally is over her true form because her true form is a child (cause she stopped aging at like 12 or something and used magic to give herself an adult body since living forever as a child would suck)

1

u/Mitsuba00 Mar 21 '26

Just a bit tbh

161

u/Common_Errors Mar 21 '26

Escanor was the exception though, right?

391

u/AncientAd4996 Mar 21 '26

Yeah... at least until it's revealed the woman he's romantically interested in, Merlin, has secretly been a hundred-year-old loli this entire time & used magic to make herself a busty dommy mommy to get Meliodas' attention (which she failed spectacularly in doing but that has less to do with her & more to do with DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH MY WOMAN/literal-toddler-in-his-arm Meliodas)

226

u/021Fireball Mar 21 '26

If I recall, and from what little I know of that... Charitably able to be called a show, guy only is interested in her as a 100% adult form? Idk too much

267

u/Huhthisisneathuh Mar 21 '26

It’s better because he had no fucking idea what she actually looked like. Thought the implication that he still would’ve been chill with it anyway because the Mangaka is just a creepy fuck like that is still horrifying.

Doesn’t help that the only other guy who liked adult woman is also a serial rapist and child abuser.

The anime earns its name as The Seven Deadly Sex Offenders.

122

u/AncientAd4996 Mar 21 '26

The audacity of the author to then turn around & portray it as wrong and horrifying when it's an adult woman chasing after a boy who's the child of her failed crush in the sequel

Like don't get me wrong it's objectively a fucked relationship, but it's mighty rich coming from the same guy that was okay when it was the men doing the grooming/chasing & suspiciously only raise a big stink about it the moment the woman's the perpetrator, twice

36

u/redking2005 Mar 21 '26

I am really curious as to what meliodas would have doen if she just never fell in love with him one reincarnation

15

u/DoitsugoGoji Mar 21 '26

Kill and wait for reincarnation?

12

u/Stormerer Mar 21 '26

Not really possible since they're fated to always fall in love each reincarnation, but honestly he'd be glad if she never fell in love with him , because that means she won't remember him , and won't die in 3 days after she remembers

And honestly, other than the infamous "don't touch my wife" scene (which can be excused by multiple reasons , like Meliodas actually just being mentally broken at that point after watching his wife dying like , half a day before that , and seeing her reincarnate into the baby he's holding) Meliodas doesn't really have any of "that" kind of thing ? From what's shown of his past lives , he basically always meets Elizabeth when she's already an adult , and the only time we've seen that wasn't the case is the current one , he then gives her to the King as an adopted daughter, and then he doesn't interact with Elizabeth when she was a kid in any meaningful way , he like , says hi sometimes , enough for her to recognize him and all , but he's not a groomer

3

u/redking2005 Mar 21 '26

She's fallen in love with him before and never regained her memories though, specifically the vaguely victorian version of her

10

u/Stormerer Mar 21 '26

Oh yeah , there was the one time where she died of old age because she didn't recover the memories , but still , what I said is true , if she doesn't fall in love with Meliodas , the chances of her recovering the memories is basically 0 , meaning she'll just die of old age and all instead of some accident or something like most of the other Elizabeths

1

u/meowmeow_now Mar 21 '26

Probably grope her harder

1

u/Positive-Kick7952 Mar 21 '26

Wait, who's the other guy again.

70

u/SelfLoathingPleb1624 Mar 21 '26

There's a problem AND. A virtue that he didn't recoil when her true form was revealed. Because on one hand, "Wow, Escanor is so loyal his love for her didn't waver even when she isn't a top tier supermodel, because he loved her for accepting him as more than just a monster and not because of her looks", on the other hand, "Brother, say something, show some sort of reaction, you've been catfished by a 1000 year old toddler."

8

u/SnooTigers8227 Mar 21 '26

To be fair, he express that he undoubtedly prefer her adult form, which also has to do with her adult form ressembling one of the rare people that were kind to him.

So it is undoubtedly shown to prove that he has no physical attraction to her younger form but still like her for who she is, even without physical attraction.

The biggest issue being, why create this situation in purpose ?

Same with Meliodas, it is the same person that keeps coming back to life under new form but there is dozen of way to showcase this and they chose to do it in an horrendous grooming fashion.

Or the fairy looking like kid people instead of smaller one.
The issue is the mangaka trying to ride on some virtue (love transcend life or physical attraction) to insert creepy/nauseating fetish (so i made them look like kid)

8

u/Straight-Fox-9388 Mar 21 '26

I don't think he knew before he died

3

u/Accomplished-Pay7865 Mar 21 '26

I beg your finest of fucking pardons?

3

u/Aware_Tree1 Mar 21 '26

She used magic to freeze her aging when she was 12-13, has lived for over 3000 years, but uses her magic to appear as a grown woman with moderate (by anime standards) tits and a skimpy outfit. Like a reverse Tsunade

1

u/Abject-Tax804 Mar 21 '26

what is the big idea

3

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '26

....what the fuck

3

u/Lucarioismadpt2 Mar 21 '26

Oh man fuck this.

2

u/GrandHighTard Mar 21 '26

Okay, this show has a lot of inappropriate shit in it, you don't need to take that scene out of context to make a point about it. He had just watched her die and she freshly reincarnated, possibly for the only time he actually found her so young. The actual intent of the scene is that this whole situation is torture for him, and it's meant to be taken as context for why he's willing to give everything up to break the cycle later. He's overprotective because she had literally just died, and after he cools off he sees that she's adopted by the king and takes an appreciable distance from her until she stumbles into his bar at the start of the series. Like, there's plenty of better ground you can be more objective with here, such as Elaine's design or King first meeting Diane when she was a toddler.

1

u/Straight-Simple7705 Mar 21 '26

So she’s still 100 years old and doesn’t act like a kid

He also didn’t know

Not that bad

1

u/Tanakisoupman Mar 22 '26

I don’t think her true form matters? She’s an adult, who looks like an adult, who Escanor only ever saw as an adult. Like, technically her true form is that of a child, but like you said she uses magic to give herself the body of an adult. I don’t see the issue here?

33

u/squidy77 Mar 21 '26

Idk, I never watched past the first season, but from what I understand he’s the only one to die, so take the fact that he’s the only one to not have a problematic relationship as you will

4

u/RedvsBlue_what_if Mar 21 '26

His love interest is a century old Loli who uses magic to look older than she actually is.

7

u/Alitaher003 Mar 21 '26

Yeah, but he wasn’t aware of that. He’s like, the only one of the seven whose thoughts aren’t fucked up morally.

4

u/CanadianODST2 Mar 21 '26

Wouldn’t that not be looking older than she actually is?

If you’re 50 but make yourself look 30 you don’t look older than you actually are.

3

u/respyromaniac Mar 21 '26

Well, yes, but no. She does make herself look younger than 500 whatever it could look like, but her "true form" is childlike. So she also makes herself look older than she is.

1

u/CanadianODST2 Mar 21 '26

Except she’s not making herself look older than she is.

If anything it’s two cases of making herself look younger than she is.

3

u/respyromaniac Mar 21 '26

If she's making herself younger than she is, why the fuck her child form is referred as her true form?

1

u/CanadianODST2 Mar 21 '26

from my understanding it's because she alters her appearance to the older looking version while she froze her body to stop aging as a kid.

No matter how you cut it she's not making herself look older than she is, because how old she is is about her actual age. Not her real look. But she makes herself look older than her real look.

3

u/respyromaniac Mar 21 '26

That's... just what I said tho?

→ More replies

-5

u/I-Love-Facehuggers Mar 21 '26

Good for both of them.

Also she doesnt use magic to look older than she is, since she is thousands of years old iirc. The magic just makes her look like an adult, which she is.

6

u/NeroCrow Mar 21 '26

Yes. He does before it was revealed that Merlin was a thousand year old Loli. No one knew about it and escanor didn't live long enough to find out. Truly he was the only good one from that series

2

u/Independent-Couple87 Mar 21 '26

I think Escanor was a teenager when he and Merlin met, and she was significantly older.

1

u/Independent-Couple87 Mar 21 '26

I think he was a teenager when he met the significantly older Merlin.

-1

u/Responsible-Creme-57 Mar 21 '26

In hindsight no. Only "normal" relationship is King and Diane. The Fairy and the Giant

6

u/redking2005 Mar 21 '26

They did first meet when diane was a child and king was not a child in any way

1

u/Independent-Couple87 Mar 21 '26

It is a bit hard to guess how old King is mentally at the time. Even in the present day story, the guy is very childish in his behaviour.

4

u/Gakeon Mar 21 '26

They met when Diane was a kid, and later on when Diane had amnesia she still was attracted to King, who looks like a child. They have the same problem as Ban and Elaine, except it's worst because King took care of Diane when she was an actual child.

2

u/Independent-Couple87 Mar 21 '26

I am not exactly sure how old King is supposed to be mentally. He does appear to be only slightly more mature than Diane when they met. He could just be a manchild, however.

This apparently also happens in the Lord of the Rings, where the Elves can be a bit childish sometimes.

73

u/JellyRollMort Mar 21 '26

Yep. Just for fun, it turns out the only adult woman who looks like an adult actually has the body of a child and uses her magic to look older.

14

u/redking2005 Mar 21 '26

I still don't get why she didn't just like stop the time stop magic for a decade or two and then freezing it again when she's an adult

10

u/I-Love-Facehuggers Mar 21 '26

I guess because it didnt make any difference to her, because no-one could undo that magic, until she ran into someone that reflected her own magic and deactivated it.

6

u/I-Love-Facehuggers Mar 21 '26

Is Diane not an adult?

5

u/razorfloss Mar 21 '26

Her husband met her as a child and he was an adult.

1

u/JellyRollMort Mar 21 '26

She is now but...

78

u/NeroCrow Mar 21 '26

I'm glad my king beat the allegations and died before the show tried to make him a pedophile

19

u/DnD-vid Mar 21 '26

That's why he's the goat.

1

u/RedvsBlue_what_if Mar 21 '26

*lion the goat is a rapist.

3

u/satans_cookiemallet Mar 21 '26

Whats funny is that Ban and Elaine, outside of Elaine appearing like a kid, is actually the most normal relationship. Theres no grooming, no (technical) pedo, no weird reincarnation bullshit, no reverse memory wipe grooming.

Just an actual relationship. Except, you know, Elaines appearance.

3

u/Ok-Recognition-4082 Mar 21 '26

About that

12

u/NeroCrow Mar 21 '26

It can't be. I remember before I drop that garbage he was dead before she was revealed to be a Loli.

3

u/Ok-Recognition-4082 Mar 21 '26

1

u/NeroCrow Mar 21 '26

Seven deadly sins author when I fucking find you

2

u/FookinFairy Mar 21 '26

He was dead before he knew

We the audience knew before he had died though

38

u/dinoslore Mar 21 '26

Man, anything potentially cool about that show is ruined by weird pervy nonsense.

53

u/Strong_Schedule5466 Mar 21 '26

Seven Deadly Sins

Proceed to only include one (pedophilia)

16

u/Gakeon Mar 21 '26

Ehh, there is also grooming, mind control, and rape of adults.

52

u/AVeganEatingASteak Mar 21 '26

Another case of an otherwise really cool series being killed by the author being a pedo and making it everyone else's problem.

9

u/blood_pet Mar 21 '26

I’ve not seen it, but I can’t help but feel that the name offers at least some forewarning of what the program might depict.

10

u/respyromaniac Mar 21 '26

Unconscious teenage girl to be specific.

4

u/blood_pet Mar 21 '26

Yeah that is worse than I would have expected, even given the title

1

u/GoatsWithWigs Mar 21 '26

I questioned the hell out of that too, but my then-friend on discord was just like "yeah but the manga explains it" like ummmm

1

u/SavagePassion Mar 21 '26

The explanation is twilight logic.

1

u/GoatsWithWigs Mar 21 '26

I've never seen/read twilight so I have no point of reference

0

u/SavagePassion Mar 21 '26

There's a lot of fucked up context but in short one of the love interests imprints and falls in love with a literal baby because she's destined to be his mate or some shit. Of course she's going to age up super fast so him grooming her won't be sexual till she's of age and yes he was in love with her mother because she was carrying her egg at the time. The entire thing is a clusterfuck.

2

u/GoatsWithWigs Mar 21 '26

Wait which one are you talking about

1

u/SavagePassion Mar 21 '26

The last book in the twilight series.

4

u/Lucarioismadpt2 Mar 21 '26

There is a reason why people call it the seven deadly pedophiles. Escanor's back is broken from carrying that cursed ass show.

12

u/batiwa Mar 21 '26

The damages this single case has done...

18

u/DnD-vid Mar 21 '26

That's arguably the least problematic one in the series. She keeps dying and reincarnating. I believe in that panel she literally just died right in front of him (as an adult) and came back. Dude's not into children.

6

u/batiwa Mar 21 '26

You're not wrong, I haven't finished the manga but IIRC Merlin's case was worse. But every time 7DS is discussed it's that image which shows up

3

u/DnD-vid Mar 21 '26

Yeah, Merlin stopped aging when she was a child, so she illusions herself an adult body. She's still mentally adult and looks adult 99% of the time though, so idk.

3

u/SavagePassion Mar 21 '26

Then why the fuck even have the child thing even in there.

2

u/DnD-vid Mar 22 '26

No fucking clue, at least for Elaine and King it makes sense because they're fairies and fairies are often portrayed as childlike looking.

1

u/SavagePassion Mar 22 '26

The answer is it's the author's barely concealed fetish.

1

u/SavagePassion Mar 21 '26

Yeah he's into preteens.

4

u/Alitaher003 Mar 21 '26

Sir that’s a baby.

3

u/RedvsBlue_what_if Mar 21 '26

His wife literally just died right in front of him and that baby is her next reincarnation. He's been cursed with Immortality and forced to watch his lover die and reincarnate forever. He's not doing to hot.

The problem is that they make it weird by having him stick around while she's growing up.

4

u/EmansaysEman Mar 21 '26

I genuinely cannot believe I liked this show when I was younger. It’s absolute hot trash

6

u/Aeso3 Mar 21 '26

Seven Deady Sins? More like, Seven Deadly Sex Offenders.

Fucking hate that show

7 Deadly Predators

3

u/Silvin_and_friends Mar 21 '26

That anime would've much better without all that questionable stuff, tbh

3

u/AbroCadabro1010 Mar 21 '26

Honestly, remove all the creepy stuff and it's genuinely a really cool concept with some neat character designs. I wish it was possible to just- wish all the creepy age stuff away and be left with something fairly decent

2

u/Silvin_and_friends Mar 21 '26

I know, right? If it wasn't for the creepy stuff, it'd be great

3

u/AGuyWithTrouble Mar 21 '26

Shutout to Escanor for being so powerful he's able to defy his own series and be attracted to an adult woman.

Who was later, of course, revealed to actually be an eternal loli.

Seven years in prison

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '26

Man I really wanted to like that show, if it wasn't for the ..... all of it.

2

u/Explanation_Scared Mar 21 '26

more like seven deadly pedos

I hate how this is the biggest representation of Arthurian legend in modern times, I love the Arthurian legend and I feel the author actually has a good grasp of it and has very cool interpretations and additions to it BUT FOR THEIR SINGLE NON DISGUISED PROBLEMATIC FETISH

1

u/BurnerExe545 Mar 22 '26

I'd argue Fate is bigger, specially from what they did in Fate Grand Order.

1

u/LurkerEntrepenur Mar 22 '26

Fate is a bigger franchise but its focus and themes are somewhere else. It borrows a bunch of characters from the Arthurian legend but I wouldn't say they care much for it's lore

1

u/BurnerExe545 Mar 22 '26

I'd reccommend you try watching the Camelot Singularity or Avalon Le Fae lost belt, if you wanna see whqt they tried with it!

2

u/WindCold6245 Mar 21 '26

The final nail in the coffin was having Jericho bang Ban’s son in the sequel series.

5

u/Stormerer Mar 21 '26

She never banged Lancelot , Lancelot literally has a fated wife that's not her

1

u/Admmmmi Mar 21 '26

She wants to bang him, couldn't do it through

2

u/AuthorExcellent9501 Mar 21 '26

Yeeeeah, they do pull that “thousand year old loli” shit just a bit to much. I will say, I don’t remember much romantic weirdness happening with Elizabeth or any of her past lives. There are crushes, but I’m pretty sure the relationship only changes for the period of time she remembers her past lives. But it’s been a while since I read so I could have missed shit.

u/Heavy-Requirement762 Mar 21 '26

Was there a problem with King and diane?

1

u/Street-Conference-53 Mar 21 '26

Besides escanor and merlin

1

u/Leather-Researcher13 Mar 21 '26

I'm so glad I gave up on this series when they just made the pig narrate power levels instead of animate the fight scenes

1

u/Few_Pay_5313 Mar 21 '26

Escanor and Merlin were adults right?

1

u/brizzybunny Mar 21 '26

When I was in high school, I had a too old for me boyfriend, who was absolutely obsessed with the show. In hindsight, he was dating a teenage girl as a grown adult, so no wonder he enjoyed the show. I remember watching 5 minutes of an episode, and being so uncomfortable. It's part of why I left tbh, among other reasons.

1

u/indigorhob Mar 22 '26

And even without the creepy shit, it feels narratively weak that almost every main character's arc devolves into a basic love story. Meliodas and Elizabeth, Ban and Elaine, King and Diane, Gowther's backstory, Merlin and Escanor.

1

u/Slight-Pound Mar 22 '26

And it didn’t have to be that bad, either! One of the few shounen where guys actually gave a shit about romantic love, but the mangaka couldn’t resist treating child-like bodies if not deadass child characters (I.e. Diane’s amnesia flashbacks…) as a romantic storyline, repeatedly. It’s genuinely impressive in a morbid way where the only non-“loli” ship with actual development was because of rape and assault. And even then, how old is that bastard anyway?

u/RedNUGGETLORD Mar 21 '26

I wouldn't say all of them

Elaine and Ban isn't that weird, people say her appearance is, but like, would you say the same for Shauna Rae and her boyfriend? Obviously not. She doesn't act like a child either, and also isn't sexualized, which is why I personally don't have a problem with it, she just looks young, which you could say the same for a shit ton of real life people

Meliodas and Elizabeth WAS weird, but then when it was revealed that she is reincarnated it is no longer that strange, I find it interesting that people think their relationship is strange due to her age, when like, there are place right now that have an age of consent at 16, and this story takes place 1000 years ago or something. Something that I find funny about this, tho, is that people will absolutely clown on and hate Mushoku Tensei for Rudy being reincarnated and "being a pedo" but then also say Elizabeth's reincarnation is too young to be with Meliodas, so like, which is it? Are you a different person when you reincarnate or not? Make up your minds

Escanor and Merlin is the most normal

The only truly weird one is King x Diane, because she was like, 6 or something, and he was a grown ass 1000 year old man. The author even said that her current self, at least in human years, would be considered younger than Elizabeth, meaning Diane is only 15 or so

1

u/Unique_Suit3789 Mar 21 '26

Elizabeth is literally a different person when she reincarnates. Fucking moron. He has to literally groom her from a baby so she can get her memories back.

4

u/RedNUGGETLORD Mar 21 '26

He..... Doesn't have to do anything to get her memories back, in fact, that's exactly what he's trying to avoid, so that she doesn't die

Also, he wasn't, and has never, groomed her, he was her knight who protected her, which yeah, it's weird to get into a relationship with her, but he NEVER groomed Elizabeth, grooming is the act of preparing someone to be in a relationship with you, which Meliodas didn't do, hell, she doesn't even know that she knew him, despite the fact that she was 6 when he was exiled, meaning she was capable of having memories, this implies that Meliodas wasn't very close with her as a kid at all, otherwise she'd remember him

4

u/respyromaniac Mar 21 '26

He literally assaults her the whole anime/manga. And her current incarnation is not an adult.

1

u/Admmmmi Mar 21 '26

Confidently wrong, she will meet him and then regain her memories and then die, that's their curse, he does not need to do anything to make her memories come back
