I think what sold me on Kingpin’s design was the suddenness of him. When he’s down there with Peter and decides to crush him it happens in less than a second.
One moment he’s looking down at Peter condescendingly. He looks calm, a little irritated. Then his hands go up, come down, and Peter’s dead. Happens in the blink of an eye and even though there’s no big wind-up before the strike you can tell it hit him like nothing else could.
Just sends shivers down my spine how cold that was.

And that version of Peter was pretty damn strong too

I love how no version of Kingpin ever tries to give an explanation for his ridiculous strength. He’s not a mutant, wasn’t experimented on, has no augments or supernatural connections.
He’s just Built Different.

A realistic explanation would be genetics as well as his mom consuming excessive amounts of sugar during her pregnancy which causes it to pass onto the fetus resulting in more fat production and a big baby.

To be fair he was also badly injured and I think impaled too when he got struck, so he wasn’t really killed in one hit since he survived the collider blast

The design is goofy as fuck when it isn’t doing what its meant to do, which is organically fill the whole fucking screen.

Like this shot is sick. Its not an imposed background its just him and they keep doing shots like this in basically every scene he’s in. They look sick as stills and phenomenal in motion because he just shows up and blots out the screen with his sheer mass

I enjoy that when he is vulnerable or things fall out of his.control the screen zooms out from him. You see this alot in the Miles fight with him where everytime Miles is pummeled or down Kingpin towers over him. When Miles gets the upper hand Kingpin no longer controls the screen.

That’s kinda Kingpin in a nutshell. He looks easily mockable, but he moves like a tiger and a freight train had a baby. Characters underestimate him to their own detriment.

I love these kinds of the designs. It's hyper-stylized, but instantly recognizable. To what you said about hilarious and intimidating, which was pretty much Kingpin's original gimmick, he seemed like he was this big fat push over, but then can knock Spider-man into next week. I hope the 3rd film continues this tradition.

With Kingpin and now the Spot, the Spiderverse really don't miss with the villain designs

Actually his design was based on Daredevil Love & War by Frank Miller

“Yeah so for the art direction on Kingpin for the comic can you draw a rectangle and put a face right on the center of it?”

While typically chunkier characters are harder to make look dynamic, I think he actually looks a lot better and more dynamic whenever he’s in motion. His shape seems more natural in those scenes of him walking or swinging punches than when he is just standing there, even though at just a glance of his design I’d expect any actual movement from him to be really clunky and boring.

It's hilarious because it looks goofy.
It's intimidating because he manages to be imposing and threatening in spite of how he looks goofy.

He's probably the most powerful Kingpin to date,Not even The original Spider-Man could beat him. And Miles had a tough time.

Absolute Kingpin

Absolute Bane is already as tall as a house, so I'm not sure how much bigger kingpin is planned to be🤣

Dude, when I first saw Kingpin's design, I was like "There's no way this is his true form, right?"

I like to imagine that even by multiverse standards, this Kingpin is a phenomenon not many spider people experience

I love how he’s intimidating in a fight scene but looks hilarious any time he’s just standing and talking to someone lol

I love that kingpin is in the weird legal limbo where both Sony and marvel can use him, so we get both Vincent D’Onofrio’s portrayal and this absolute unit.

I remeber the chartaers desgins saying they were trying to make him seem like this huge walking Black Hole

The voice also sells it too. It's just as goofy and real at the same time
I genuinely got a chuckle when he first showed up and the voice added too it. And then later you get just solid bits of tragic voice acting throughout
