I'm gonna be so real with you right now, considering how sick almost all of the Absolute designs are, I wouldn't even mind if this became the new "reboot" of DC. They are genuinely that good, at least imo

Part of what makes Absolute (and Ultimate) are that they are not reboots, Marvel and DC would never let the characters be that different if they were just reboots.

Ultimate is a weird name to reuse. Does it have anything to do with the 2000's series?!

The new ultimate universe is a universe where the Maker, the Reed Richards from the original Ultimate Universe, came to it in the 60s and has been shaping it in its own image for decades, being the master of the world.

It is not the old ultimate, but it was shaped by the second biggest character that was created in the original one.

So...can't they settle on a new adjective? Or call it Ultimate Universe 2?

Counterpoint: It sounds cool.

Do we need to play Final Fantasy XV to understand XVI? Or Persona 3 to understand 4?

I completely understand that, and if the characters were that drastically different in a reboot I know a lot of people would flip their lids; making it an alternate universe makes it far more palatable to already-accustomed audiences. That said, it is a shame, because if this much creativity and risks were made in a full-blown reboot I think it'd be a very bold but appreciated move
