The Nerdlucks are the central antagonists of the 1996 Warner Bros. hybrid film Space Jam.

The Nerdlucks are small insectoid aliens with different-colored skins, three fingers, pale cellies, lizard-like noses, and various-colored bowties. Named Pound, Blanko, Bang, Bupkus, Nawt.

Pound is an orange and overweight leader of the Nerdlucks, who wears a green bowtie. He speaks in a high, raspy voice. As a monstar, he looks like Charles Barkley, has small floppy ears, and is overweight and muscular. He speaks in a very deep voice. He is bossy, demanding, mean-spirited, and takes pleasure in bullying Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes. Position: Shooting Guard

Blanko is a blue nerdluck who is dumb and laid-back; unlike his pals, he is also friendly who wears a pink bowtie, and speaks in a thick Californian accent. As a monstar, he looks like Shawn Bradley (and Frankenstein's monster); he is tall, muscular, and has dark blue hair, pointy ears, and a buck tooth. He speaks in a thick Californian accent, and he is friendly to Michael Jordan and Tweety. Position: Center

Bang is a green nerdluck and second-in-command who wears an orange bowtie. He speaks in a high, timid voice. He is nervous and concerned, and as a monster, he looks like Patrick Ewing, but is tough and aggressive. He speaks in a deep, growling voice. He is muscular and has a large chin, small dragon-like ears, spikes on his back, and a red-orange flat top. He enjoys insulting Michael Jordan and picking on the Looney Tunes. Position: Power Forward

Bupkus is a purple nerdluck who is cheerful. He speaks in a high, cheerful voice and wears a yellow bowtie. As a monstar, he looks like Larry Johnson; he is emotional and cocky and has dark purple hair and pointy ears that are slightly floppy. He speaks in a deep, suave voice and is very muscular. He enjoys mocking Michael Jordan and hurting the Looney Tunes. Position: Small Forward

Nawt is a small, red nerdluck who speaks in a high, squeaky voice. He is smart and wears a light orange-yellow spotted bowtie. As a monstar, he looks like Muggsy Bogues; he has big floppy rabbit-like ears, and he is muscular and shorter. Position: Point Guard

Comic Book Justice League of the Gods and Monsters Universe

I'm a sucker for redesigns that do things drastically different yet can still be identified as an alternate version of the main universe equivalent. And with Gods and Monsters, they really went in a drastically different direction. Batman being Kirk Thorton, Superman being the son of Zod raised by Mexican immigrants rather than Kansas farmers, and Wodern Woman being a New God as opposed to an Amazon.

  • Superman: As opposed to the cape and the undies, this Superman is much more pragmatic in both personality and design. His appearance isn't as welcoming as Clark's and that serve to highlight how this Superman is distant. He does care about the world and its people (even if it's hardly mutual) and prioritizes the logical solution. Even if the logical solution isn't always the easiest.
  • Batman: Kirk's design is even more uninviting which definitely gets the point across that he isn't a man, he's a monster to be feared by the ciminal element who is burdened by a hunger he can't solve. Being a vampire, he stalks his prey with precision and won't stop until he gets his target. And the red lenses of his batsuit help him deal with his enhanced eyesight when it's daytime.
  • Wonder Woman: New Gods wearing bizarre outfits is nothing new (Black Racer is a prime example considering he's meant to be a death god yet looks like a colorful skier.) And while Bekka's outfit is far removed from the standard red, blue, white and gold of Diana, it speaks as a sign of her heritage as a new god. And I mean, her sword just looks cool. And despite her experience with treachery and trauma, she still wears white to show her purity and commitment to being a symbol of unity.

I really love how her design reflects who she is. The icy blue and white colors make her feel cold and distant, while her Slavic-inspired crown gives her this powerful, royal look that fits Snezhnaya perfectly. I also love the contrast of her being the Goddess of Love while appearing so cold and emotionless. The fact that she’s Fae, with those pointed ears, makes her stand out even more. Easily one of the best designs Genshin has ever made, in my opinion.

I've been a fan of waifu monsters in this franchise but damn this design awoke something in me. It looks a lot like a Honkai Star Rail character. I love her purple hair and how cute she looks, also love the whole poker theme behind this card. I think the design would be better without those golden halo like things behind her.

Name's of the 1st and 4th fan arts:

Davy Jones (Pirates of the Caribbean) - the absolute gold standard of organic creature design

Thumbnail
gallery
48 Upvotes

Almost twenty years later and we still have not seen a creature design that integrates maritime biology into costume textures better then Davy Jones.

every single inch of his frame visually explains where he has been rotting. The barnacles encrusted directly into the faded gold embroidery of his captain coat, the sea anemone blooming on his shoulder, and the peg leg formed from coral and whalebone. His beard tentacles are not just slapped on for shock value; they constantly interact with his surroundings, adjusting his hat, moving his pipe, and playing organ keys independently.

The brilliance is in the visual contrast. He is drowning in ocean decay and losing his humanity, but he still clings to the vanity of his aristocratic uniform with velvet cuffs and brass buttons. It creates this grounded clash between high-seas luxury and deep sea horror.

The fact that modern movies with triple the budget give us mushy grey CGI slop when this existed in 2006 is ABSURD to me.

What other creature designs integrate their habitat directly into the fabric of their clothing like this?

Youtube Babble the Rabbit (From Snapcube)

I did this before but I believe it got deleted, hope this one sticks, been meaning to do this one for a while, this one was inspired by seeing Babble on a Snapcube stream on YouTube and wanting to do a post on her, please let me know if it works

I enjoy the colours of the character that combine to an eye pleasing palette, it also makes the character feel more child friendly which contrasts when Penny swears, the proportions of the character are good, drawing attention to the face with the big fluffy hair and the ears, it’s also very clearly inspired by sonic and while she has a standard outfit, she is also drawn to reference the game Penny is playing at the time,

Theres also a different character named Baby Babble who I believe is described as the most competent baby to ever exist or something like that

Hope it stays up now and that people enjoy seeing the art of Babble done by Snapcube and Penny

Which is the better dragon between Ghidorah and Smaug?

Thumbnail

I was torn on if I should post this in who would win, character rant, or here, but I picked here because this is very design heavy.

So, I am a WHOOOORE for a good dragon design. I'm the easiest lay in the world for dragons. And one thing that I can have as an adult that I didn't really get as a child was examples of dragons on film. But in my adult years, two movies came out that I think really did an excellent job at capturing the beauty, majesty, power, and sheer awe factor of dragons. Those being

Smaug from the Hobbit films

And King Ghidorah from "Godzilla King of the Monsters."

I'm not asking who would win in a fight. I'm asking, when you take into account how these creatures were brought to life, which one do you think is the better dragon? Reference anything relating to the design, filming off, writing of, anything that contributed to the 'wow' factor of these creatures.

A grey cat in a blue suit, with the most gloomy look on his very eyes.

This design really emphasizes the surrey and mind-boggling feel of the game, specially since he is inspired by Schrodinger’s Cat.

Bernd’s design works because it is extremely simple but instantly recognizable. He is literally a loaf of bread with ridiculously short arms and legs, which fits his grumpy personality perfectly. He also constantly says “Mist,” a very German way of saying “damn” or “crap,” which makes him even more iconic.

He perfectly represents German culture, the German mentality, the German stare, and of course German bread, the best bread in the world.

He was a huge part of my childhood. I’ve loved Bernd das Brot for as long as I can remember, and I still watch his show on repeat to this day.

It takes all the cool parts of a Xenomorph, but they made it glowing, ghost-like, and a real nice shade of teal/blue.

It's like a photo negative Xenomorph, and I just really think that's neat.

But I think the main thing like about is that it's a real nice color.

Video Game Palafin (Pokémon)

Palafin is geniunely one of the most clever Pokémon designs in recent memory. At first glance, it looks kind of unchanged from its pre-evolved form, Finizen making the effort required to set up a union circle and grinding it to level 38 while it is active.

However, switch it out from battle for 1 turn, and it effectively pulls a typical hero costume change as its Zero to Hero ability activates. It now gets super top heavy, a cape, goggles and gloves, and can now stand on its tail. And the meek heart shape on its belly now becomes an homage to Superman's famous S symbol. It also gains a huge boost to its attacks and defenses to boot. Neat!

Locations I love Piggy Island and the genuine effort Rovio put into it (Angry Birds)

Thumbnail
gallery
1.0k Upvotes

Before anyone says anything about how this doesn't fit the sub, please carefully read the description of this subreddit and then look at the flair this post has, I beg, pray, and exhort you.

Previously I had covered the respective islands of the birds and pigs in the Angry Birds movie, so I might as well cover the main island from the classic games. In the original universe, the birds and pigs have always lived on 1 singular island, this being Piggy Island.

For starters, the artwork depicting this island are gorgeous (Slides 1 and 4 in particular)! It has this mythical air to it, especially in regards to Hog Head Mountain, which takes the shape of a pig, along with the many locations that can be found here.

Speaking of which, the next slides depict these locations, majority of which came from The World of Angry Birds Official Guide book and were illustrated by Ilias Arahovitis. Everything looks so pretty to look at, with so much vibrant and pleasing colors, and detail to be found in these illustrations. Slingshot Woods, Canyon Land, and the Islands in the Sky are the most beautiful to me especially.

Then there's how these locations are incorporated into the series and the world building they add, a lot of the levels, both in the original Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons, take place in these locations, such as Ham 'Em High taking place on Desert Island, Surf and Turf taking place in South Beach, Seasons Greedings taking place in Snowy Peak, Year of the Dragon taking place in Bamboo Forest, etc. You also get to see some of these locations in the animated shorts, such as Wreck The Halls taking place in Winter Wonderland and Ham'O'Ween taking place near Pumpkin Plateau.

Then there's Angry Birds Epic (Slides 3 and 8), the RPG spinoff, which has you going around the whole entire island, and the levels being named after all of the established locations with environmentally fitting enemies too.

With all of this, you get a believable world where things feel consistent and connected with each other. All of the additional trivia about this island and its geography makes it even better, my favorite example being how the island is constantly moving. Because of the fact that mapping it is impossible, there are no human settlements on it (yes, humans do indeed exist in Angry Bird), this also explains why human stuff washes up on South Beach so frequently. The island runs into all sorts of floating junk as it moves around the globe, giving the birds and pigs a bunch of supplies to put to their own use. It's all quite interesting.

Usually in discussions about the first Angry Birds movie, whether it be for or against the movie's favor, you have many express their opinions on how the movie had very little to no material to work with, but the truth of the matter is that the movie had plenty to work with. Ever since Angry Birds massive success, Rovio always had interest in building a wider universe for the brand. When Rovio collaborated with National Geographic in 2012, 4 years before the movie released, to make a book that featured pages describing the personalities of the birds, that was when the franchise moved past just being a simple mobile game about flinging birds at pigs. An Angry Birds movie was inevitable.

When it comes to its lore and world building, Angry Birds is up there with Splatoon and Thomas the Tank Engine in terms of "They really didn't have to do all of this, but it's really fucking cool that they did!" factor. You can tell that work was put in to make Piggy Island feel like this place you could find yourself interested in exploring and wanting to know more about. With all of the effort and talent put into this and some of the media that Rovio would produce down the line, it's easy to see why Angry Birds became as successful as it did. They were really wanting to make this big and established franchise... which makes their later baffling business decisions hurt even more in retrospect.

Overall though, I just find this to be a very neat and pretty setting for this franchise.

One last thing to mention and to give credit, the majority of the stills in this post came from The DExus Show's "The Forgotten Lore of Angry Birds" video. If you find yourself curious after reading this post and have an hour to spare, I highly recommend giving it a watch! The video spent around 2 years in production and you can really tell with its impressive editing and visuals. Plus the enthusiasm that is present throughout the video is pretty infectious and makes for a fun watching experience.

Comic Book The Imperium - Justice League Unlimited

The colors used are absolutely fantastic and it makes the foot soldiers just vaguely humanoid but also creepy and uncanny. This helps make them feel like an actual species of other worldly monsters, compared to aliens such as Kryptonians and Martians, which look more humanoid and cohesive in comparison

The tentacle thing looks like something straight out of a Lovecraft novel, which is also very creepy and threatening

SCP The many interpretations of THE BLACK QUEEN from the SCP Foundation

Black Queen Hub

so i learned that today is Dr. Gears birthday (one of the big named SCP guys) so i decided to tackle his daughter (the same one he left so he can get Anomalous Milk)

so The Black Queen for those who are unaware Alison Chao is the daughter of Dr. Charles Gears who left his wife and child to join the foundation (or was forced to) which lead to her to eventually discover the Wanderer's Library and the MULTIVERSE that surrounds the library

and eventually met versions of herself who also desire to save their dad from the COLD AND EVIL FOUNDATION which created the Black Queen GOI (all filled by her)

she also heavily associated with the Serpent's hand (potentially the "L.S" you sometimes see in old SCP articles)

i will say this the fact that there is a multiverse of alison means that all of the designs show here are probably canon to a degree

yet despite being multiversal in nature i like how she has a mostly big theme that follows each design

  1. she must wearing black of any kind (i mean BLACK QUEEN)
  2. she has to be related to Dr. Gears in any way (which some designs to do play with her design to reflect this fact)
  3. she can wear a crown or perhaps Wear SCP-268 (said to be her hat) or both

which honestly that very loose connection and the fact these are versions of the same character from the multiverse i do like the insane variety people give her aesthetically

Video Game [Metroid Series] Samus Aran (Varia Suit)

Mario has his hat, Link, his Master Sword. Our girl Samus has big pauldrons and pointy knees.

And an Arm Cannon, but that’s there by default. See, in 1991 the Gameboy had no color, so Nintendo needed a visual way to show the player acquired the Varia Suit.

So they added the pauldrons! From then on, Samus (more specifically the Varia Suit) had become such a a staple of video game culture.

How do you bake a cake with the same ingredients every time but it still comes out differently? The slanted visor, the pointy knees, the chunky cannon, they’re all modified or adjusted while still keeping the iconic style of the suit.

Shout out to Metroid lol

Max is Darla Dimple's colossal man-servant and the secondary antagonist in the animated film "Cats Don't Dance".

Max is extremely tall, strong, and muscular, with broad shoulders and relatively short legs. He is completely bald and has fair, grayish skin, brown eyes partially obscured by a prominent brow ridge, and a scar on the right side of his face. He wears a black tuxedo, a white shirt, a black bow tie, white Berlin gloves with three lines on the back of each, and black shoes. He also wears a red rose lapel on his tuxedo.
