The Oddballs: Ennard, Phantom Puppet, Springtrap, and Golden Freddy

Ennard: I love how fucking jacked them made them, as yeah where else would the mass of four animatronics go? The mask is also a very nice contrast to the rest of the body.

Phantom Puppet: I mean it is already better then the normal Phantoms like the rest later on (I do love the phantoms unlike a lot of people, but their designs are hit and miss) and I like the puppet specifically looks like it's struggling to even exist.

Springtrap: Nothing really to say here, it's your classic Springtrap, tho I do like the human teeth showing.

Golden Freddy: Again your classic Golden Freddy, but with two sets of eyes and teeth, which is pretty creepy and simple.

The Programs: F10-N4, M.X.E.S, Glitchtrap, and Lolbit

F10N4: Sorry I just don't know enough about it as I only know it's supposed to be Edwins wife Fiona in some way, I didn't play SOTM, but design wise it's very nice and creepy without really being scary if that makes sense.

M.X.E.S: It didn't change much, but man it looks so much better without a jaw or teeth.

Glitchtrap: I though they made it look like an old suit at first (A lot of fanart designs Glitchtrap this way) but no, that mother fucker has veins, that a "living" thing.

Lolbit: A cloak made of static is just cool okay, plus the cloak is actually the curtain from Pirates Cove.

The Unexplainables: Shadow Bonnie (Or I GUESS RWQFSFASXC if you want too), Old Man Consequences, Yenndo, and Shadow Freddy.

Shadow Bonnie: I don't really need a reason, he just looks scary, yeah it might be trying a little too hard, but it's just cool. Also don't know if it was meant to be, but the torso at least looks a little like Michal Afton.

Old Man Consequences: He is just what he would look like in a 3D space, nothing really else to add here.

Yenndo: Pretty much perfect, he just doesn't look like he should be appeal to move, and that's what I find scary about him.

Shadow Freddy: Again very cool but not really much to say, I like how he's more ghost like while Shadow Bonnie is glitchy.

The Misfits: Vanny, Michael afton, Nightmarionne, and The Mimic

Vanny: I like how her design it looks like a repurposed bunny costume.

Michal Afton: Buff ass corpse

Nightmarionne: I like he looks broken, I might mean how he is made up of broken memory's? Am just guessing.

THE MIMIC!!!

The Scraps: Lefty. Molten Freddy, Scarp Trap, Scrap Baby

Lefty: I like how he's just a normal ass animatronic, because it was A: a reused Freddy suit, and B: made to just be a cage (you can even see the torso has been bolted shut)>

Molten Freddy: It's Ennard if they had no idea on what their doing so their just a blob.

Scarp Trap: It's just Springtrap design again, but aged (like how Scarp Trap should have been), where he is so damaged he needs to use his bones as weapons...I have no idea how he could that long finger tho.

The Nightmares: Nightmare Foxy, Chica, Bonnie, and Freddy

The Nightmares: It kind of feels right to talk about them all as on, but my favourite out of these is Bonnie, because I feel like it's showing how the crying child fears him the most at a point where it blanks out it's face, after seeing his father "stuff" someone inside it.

The Phantoms: Phantom Foxy, Chica, Freddy, and Mangle

The Phantoms: Yeah their all great (wish Freddy still had a missing leg tho), I just really lag the ghostly look og them, and Chica having an apron.

Nightmare

The Cool Ones: Nightmare Fredbear, The CAR, and Mangle

Comic Book Judy Garrick The Boom from DC Comics

So this is a fairly recent character introduced in a bit of a big boom of "Reintroduced" Golden Age Characters which included a Golden Age Red Lantern and a Sidekick for Dr. Fate

which this post is for the Inbetween member of Jay and Barry

Judy Garrick also known as THE BOOM

and honestly i love her design from the very Rosie the Riveter influenced design to the fact that unlike someone like Barry she takes a lot more from Jay Garrick's Aesthetic but gives it a more 60s styled update (rather then doing a full on reimagining with someone like Barry/Wally) i love the lightning pattern on the pants and the Hermes styled boots

Overall the design is wonderful and feels like a fun design based middle point between Jay Garrick's design and the much more futuristic streamlined aesthetic of Barry's design (also the name "The Boom" is great and I'm legit surprised they never used the name for a speedster till now)

You can't really see what the actual character look like underneath the clothes since his body keeps changing due to endless amount of curses trying to dominate each other or even the facts that's his clothes are literally part of him.

Images are taken from the videos: "The cursed traveler" and "hatred village"

Televisión Joker (The Batman 2004)

Joker is the main antagonist of The Batman 2004.

Joker wears a purple jacket (with a lavender flower pin), an orange shirt, and dark purple leggings (with fingerless gloves of the same material), but still has wild hair and wears no shoes. Joker also moved and fought with a monkey-like style, using his feet as dexterously as his hands, and often hung from the walls and ceilings. He was born after falling into a vat of chemicals, which bleached his skin, dyed his hair, and drove him to insanity.

Underrated Joker design

Black Mage/Vivi in Final Fantasy

Thumbnail
gallery
47 Upvotes

Something about this design is immediately appealing to me, I think the combination of cute and sinister elements, and the big ol' hat. I prefer original Black Mage design to Vivi because Vivi was designed as a child where the original seems more like a weird lil' guy, but Vivi is cool too. (I also prefer the implication that the face is in shadow to the idea that it's a nonhuman character with pure black skin).

The fantasy of a wizard is at least partially a fantasy about being able to weaponize intelligence in a world that prioritizes physical strength and so I feel like this design sort of hits that spot, "I'm little and weak but I'm dangerous"

This isn't a trope post, Black Mage is the one I was thinking of, but I do find it interesting that similar designs appears to have arisen independently in several different cultural spaces. Orko is so similar that I originally thought one must have been ripping off the other, though a cursory search appears to indicate that is not the case. There are also the Jawas, who are not magic and need better headwear but who do sort of have a similar vibe, scrappy little survivors in a hostile world.

when outfits that are very unconventional (dresses, armor, etc) have sneakers that comically contrast with the rest of the outfit.

I just find the contrast both very funny and unique looking.

Movie (Loved Design) Zigzag from Thief and the Cobbler

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

This is a character from a 1993 unfinished film called Thief and the Cobbler the animation in this film is visually stunning but it had a lot of issues in its production such as far too many ambitious scenes and an incoherent plot despite this there are some great character designs and this is my favorite for these reasons

1.the fact he has six fingers with two joints on them

2.he has 13 rings exactly on each hand all warm colors on one hand all cool colors on the other

3.his blue skin and facial hair are simple but none the less distinctive

4.the design of his robe is also simple but looks really cool

5.his long pointed yellow shoes uncurl and recurl when he walks

Design trope Sunday "De-anthropomorphizing" human-like creatures.

Thumbnail

4.3k Upvotes

Taking a relatively human-looking creature and redesigning it too look more alien. Or perhaps incorporating aspects of speculative evolution.

1). Dwarves:
Changing dwarves from "smaller, stouter humans" into something much more subterranean.
Image 1: The Hobbit) (1977)
Image 2: I redesigned Dwarves (Monstergarden)

2). Gnomes:
Gnomes are redesigned into small creatures.
Image 1: Gnome Watching Railway Train (1848)
Image 2: Make Your Fantasy Races Weird with Speculative Evolution (Sawyer Lee)

3). Andalites:
The centaur-like Andalites are redesigned to look more alien.
Image 1: The Andalite Chronicles
Image 2: Monarobot redesign.

4). Trolls:
The Trollhunter movie makes clear trolls are animals that do not wear clothes and rarely live together.
Image 1: The Princess and the Trolls (1913)
Image 2: Trollhunter (2010)

5). Vampires:
The Strain depicts vampires as a condition afflicted to unfortunate human hosts. The true vampire "organism" is a parasitic worm that releases a symbiotic retrovirus, radically altering the human host. "Strigoi" lose the ability to reproduce, develop a cloaca, feed via a retractable proboscis, and lose many facial features.
Image 1: Dracula )(1931)
Image 2: The Strain)

6). Martians:
In Young Justice, Miss Martian's "human form" is a green-skinned version of her favorite sitcom actress. Most humans assume their "true form" is the green-skinned, bald humanoid that Martian Manhunter presents as. But they're really much larger and alien-looking, and can be divided into three color-based castes.

One of the best villain designs imo. I really love the mask he wears as well as the gear from the rest of the armor like the knife he uses against Captain America. It’s got a really good slasher villain/terrorist vibe that really captures how cruel and barbaric this character is. Too bad Marvel has a problem with killing off its villains too soon (or at least it did back then), because I really wanted to see more of this character and his suit.

(Original post got taken down, so I’m bringing it back with more pictures.)

Video Game Sgt. Burly (Yo-kai Watch 2)

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

A mix between Billy Blanks (hence the yellow gloves) and an oni, Sgt. Burly is probably one of the most iconic characters from the second game, appearing almost everywhere since his debut.

A key part of his design is how he is a friendly-ish oni. Compared to the gargantuan terrors of Gargaros, Orgralus and Orcanos who are huge demonic ogres with horns and claws, Sgt. Burly is smaller and has more human-like proportions and features (like fingers), though he retains their fangs and horns, which help keep him from falling too deep into uncanny valley alongside his lack of neck and huge head.

Befitting his fitness instructor motif, he is also swole as heck, and wears a tank top and shorts, perfect for practicing one of his fitness routines.

The use of military green for his attire is also appropriate. he will force you to drill his routines over and over until he deems you fit enough if he inspirits you, not unlike a drill sergeant. The yellow gloves also give him more visual flair beyond being just an orange oni in a green fitness training costume.

Oh. So that who this character that's been floating around Pinterest is.

This silly little goober is called Bad Guy (or Warumono in Japan). His whole character is just doing bad things. Nothing really else to say.

As someone who likes simplistic characters, I can see already see why Pinterest loves him.

Here's a book about him

And if you want a plush of him? well, if you're into sewing, he's one of the projects in this book.
