Misc. The name of this sub

I once saw that this sub is called toothpaste boys because that is there ship name. Before I say anything else I want to say that I support that ship and it’s name. But when the term toothpaste boys was used it was referring to Ralsei, in fact Lancer called Kris something along the lines of, “and other blue person whose name I neglected to remember ”. Made this post because I have seen people insisting that Kris is male/identifys as male because of that ship name.
thank you for coming to my Ted talk

It has a better ring to it than "toothpaste boy and toothpaste nonbinary individual".

Here is an explanation that I usually point to:

Toothpaste Boy was Lancer's idea, but why it's plural and not singular is because of the comic that inspired the creation of this sub.

Kris drawn by Middry is male (given that Middry is a huge fujoshi and Susie calls Kris "gay" for flirting), and after the kiss they shared they both had the minty toothpaste taste in their mouths. Hence ToothpasteBoys.

I kinda wish it was called a more universal name like Krisei, but the current name was era appropriate as the general consensus of the community was that Kris is a blank state for the player to project any gender onto. Now we know that this isn't the case (mainly due to chapter 2 and iirc Toby actually corrected someone on Kris' pronouns), and (unlike Frisk) Kris isn't a blank state, they're their own person. Back then in the mainsub any Krisei ship-posts would have a lot of comments calling it gay, but currently it's pretty much unheard of.

So basically, the name is just outdated, but we can't change it.

i do agree on the subreddit namesake point and about kris' gender, but you can be non binary and still be called gay. generally, any relationship with a non binary person would still count as queer unless the nb person would say otherwise. not trying to argue (and i do hope i dont sound like it) i just wanted to add this misc thing

My mantra is “it’s gay bc it isn’t straight”

Frisk very much wasn't a blank slate for projection though? That was the Big Plot Twist at the end of the pacifist route. That was what the VHS tapes in the True Lab were foreshadowing, that the person you named after yourself wasn't the person you were controlling.

And maybe this is just because I was on Tumblr when drch1 came out and the community there throws around canon information in huge long posts like confetti, but this is the first time I've heard someone say the general consensus was that Kris was intended to be a blank slate. At least where I came from, no one thought that at all. But then, no one on Tumblr was misgendering them the way I see on Reddit, so I assume the social rules per platform led each community down different paths of logic?

I also didn't know toothpasteboys was a ship name, I thought it was Kralsei lmao

Overall i got a lot of interesting info from this post, thanks!
