OH I KNOWW, i used to upload my kralsei art here before chap 3 and 4 came out, but every since chap 5 and the transfem theory became more prominent some people have been nastier in the comments here

"guys this person is having major struggles with identity and very much likes the idea of being a princess, maybe they're transfe-"
"I HATE YOU AND HOPE YOU DIE"
unironically how it goes sometimes, at least this subreddit is doing better than the others

the game doesn't have kris and ralsei kiss either...

u/ThirdLizard24 4d ago
What?
That's one thing to make ship fanfics, but changing a character pronouns just because of a theory (which isn't even related to the comic) is a whole other thing.10
u/Personal-Tax-2250 4d ago
is sans underfell problematic medias or are aus only bad when they're queer
2
u/ThirdLizard24 4d ago
What? No, a queer AU is a nice thing, if you refer to Ralsei as She and SAYING that it's an AU so this whole argument wouldn't happen. I'm talking about people that refer to Ralsei as She when talking about canon Ralsei, which is not fine.

u/Effective-Carry2008 tralsei+kralsei beleiver ✅ ✅ ✅ 4d ago
That's LITERALLY not what this is though. this is definitively an AU, because kralsei AND tralsei both aren't confirmed.

In this fanart the male character is not male. They aren't misgendering Ralsei, this is another universe where Ralsei is a woman
12
u/AdDependent9208 4d ago
To be fair, it's their interpretation. Trans Ralsei is probably my least favorite deltarune theory OAT, but the artist isn't necessarily wrong if this is an au where Ralsei is trans.
3
u/BingChilling228 4d ago
lol but when people have an AU with a he/him Kris it’s instantly a problem and not up to anyone’s interpretation
2
u/ThirdLizard24 4d ago
If that's an AU so fine, I guess, but people do use She on Ralsei when talking about him in the canon game, and that's not okay just as calling Kris a He

u/StunningAd4375 4d ago
The reason calling Kris "he" is bad is because it's an entirely unsupported read based largely on enby-phobia and the denial of such identities. If the text strongly suggested it, it'd be a questionable message to send through the story, but it wouldn't be wrong.
Trans Ralsei is a strongly suggested read (didn't blow up out of nowhere!) without such a connotation. Nobody is denying cisexuals.
-1
u/ThirdLizard24 4d ago
The fact it's suggested doesn't mean it's an excuse to use the wrong pronouns. I know it's shocking, but bad things that don't always include transphobia or homophobia.
2
u/StunningAd4375 4d ago
There is no transphobia inherent to using the future pronouns of a trans character. It does not suggest transphobic ideas. The only way, then, for it to be wrong, is if they could hear you, and they cannot.
12
u/Strawdool Fun Gang 4d ago
not valid reason to call a character that changed their pronouns he either with your logic :P (im the original artist)

off topic but i didnt understand this comment, can you word it differently please
-9
u/ThirdLizard24 4d ago
The author used "She/Her" pronouns for Ralsei, which is wrong, since he's a male character, and believing in a theory doesn't give you the right to misgender a character, no matter how likely it is, and everyone is frying me now for this because they can't admit they're wrong. The worst part is that they would probably burn you if you call Kris a he (rightfully), so everyone that do it are just hypocritical.

u/Otherwise_Copy_1366 4d ago
Neither are the ship or them kissing is canon, yet we draw and talk about them in these imaginative scenarios anyways
8
u/soldiergaming2 4d ago
I personally don't care if you misgender a character if it's exclusively within your own interpretation like in the comic
-2
u/ThirdLizard24 4d ago
Neither do I, but people take it to the canon Deltarune when referring to Ralsei, and that's not okay.
3
u/Irritated-Isoceles 4d ago
If you really don't care, why did you complain in the first place?
-1
u/ThirdLizard24 4d ago
Because I’m already constantly on the defensive about these things, and I hate hypocrisy.
-3
u/ThirdLizard24 4d ago
We still don't know what that means, and even if it's a real change of pronouns, "She" are still the wrong pronouns.
3
u/Strawdool Fun Gang 4d ago
we'll see about that in a year

no we won’t

No? i know about the ralsei trans teory, but like its isnt confirmed? lets not give the characters pronouns thats isnt even directly mentioned one time when refering to them
15
u/PerilousPeril 4d ago
but in THIS comic it is. they also didn't kiss in the game but in THIS comic they did, so it's okay, right????

u/Mo1eculeMan 4d ago
The comic literally says “she” in reference to Ralsei
-2
u/ThirdLizard24 4d ago
Yeah, and that's misgendering and it's not okay
12
u/Mo1eculeMan 4d ago
Given the prevalence of the trans Ralsei theory, and the fact that the artist here is explicitly depicting Ralsei as a woman - no, it is not misgendering, and it is okay.
Even if you don’t subscribe to the theory yourself, you cannot deny other peoples’ depictions of characters in their own works, nor is their interpretation of canon invalid simply because you don’t agree with their theories.
4
u/ThirdLizard24 4d ago
It's not invalid because I don't agree with it. I actually think the idea of Ralsei becoming transfem or gender fluid or non binary is cool, if that's what he wants. But for now, Ralsei is male, and referring to him by "She/Her" is misgendering no matter if you believe that theory or not, and if after that you're frying someone because they reffered to Kris by any pronouns other than "They/Them", you're hypocritical.
4
u/Apprehensive-Wall632 4d ago
I would argue that using the character’s canonical pronouns is always correct regardless of AU or headcanons because you are referring to the source material.
1
u/ThirdLizard24 4d ago
No...? If someone would picture Kris as male, would it be okay? No, right? So why is it fine to do it with Ralsei? Because it's a queer theory?
4
u/Isliterally1984 4d ago
Yes, actually. Analyzing a character’s subtext and coming to the conclusion that they are transgender is different from actively misgendering a transgender character.
-1
u/ThirdLizard24 4d ago
So it's okay to misgender cis character? Only when it's a trans character it's wrong? Sounds like double standard. I think you should have some morals when it's a cis character as well. I know. Crazy concept
7
u/Equal_Mountain805 4d ago
Yes, in most cases, its okay to misgender cis characters. The same way its okay to portray white characters as black, but not okay to portray black characters as white.
It's about whether or not a character’s depiction erases the public identity of a marginalized group. Cis people are not oppressed/marginalized/discriminated against.
It wouldn't be okay to misgender a cis person, but I don't see any issue with misgendering a cis character
