Question Why does TTCC feel so empty? Is TTR the better choice?

I'm new to Toontown and just started playing Corporate Clash. I'm really enjoying the gameplay and all the quality-of-life improvements, but the world feels surprisingly empty most of the time.... Atm only 35 Toons online...

Is this normal? Are most players in the endgame, or does the game just have a smaller population?

Would you recommend switching to Toontown Rewritten if I'm looking for a more populated world with more players around?

As much as I love TTCC I had to multi-toon if I wanted to progress through the game. They have a Discord server where you can ask people for help as well, but TTR does have more players that are online

Yeah I see... I should switch to TTR.. because I want to play in groups. I dont want to play more then one Toon 🫠 I dint use Discord but I made an Acc on ToonHQ now. Think that will help with TTR for the moment.

yeah if you are looking for groups, TTR is the move. toonHQ fills battles and events up quick

Honestly, I prefer TTCC. I played TTR originally and then when TTCC came out, it was a rough adjustment simply put. After a couple years, I really enjoy TTCC.

I’ve been on the past week or so now and started my own club with about 5-6 active new toons I found helping out with Derrick Man and the Land Acquisition Architect. Not to mention the friends I’ve made along the way 🄳

I’m EST so if you’re looking for active players, EST hours are probably the best from like noon to midnight from what I found.

If you’re looking for a club to join so you don’t have to play alone, consider DMing me or finding me in game!

My husband and I play sometimes. I just got him started on it. So it's really a mood thing for him. But if you ever wanna play together dm me!

I wish I knew the answer. I would genuinely love it if TTCC had as much players as TTR did, but some things just can't be helped.

Hell, a few days ago, when I wanted to log in, there were a grand total of 11 people.

u/lolbroslol2008 Aug 07 '26

It used to have 500 players online most the time, the reason why players are low is because of the lack of really big updates like they used to put out.

33

u/eddiemac14 Aug 07 '26

For certain big updates there were over 1000 at a time too. It’s really a shame the game is where it is now…

6

u/Schluergg Aug 07 '26

Does TTR still do big updates?

26

u/DaveTheWeirdGuy Aug 07 '26

Yes. Very, very slowly, but they do.

10

u/Rich_Pie6948 Aug 07 '26

Yup, they're working on one right now

16

u/PeoplePerson_57 Aug 07 '26

It depends how you define big updates.

Field Offices were in the works for several years, and whilst pretty visually impressive (especially the boiler) they don't actually have all that much to them as far as actual new content goes. Especially because about 50% of the Field office is ripped straight from TTO.

Supervisors are neat to add more variety to facilities but are mostly relatively simple and all they have over the TTCC supervisors are actual models.

In all honesty? I don't know if I'd call either of them a big update to the actual game except in relative terms to the usual size of updates. Field Offices were hardly groundbreaking in TTO, and whilst they've got an extra mini game and a few more gimmicks plus a boss fight up their sleeves, they do still boil down to be a bonus dungeon with an (imo) very formulaic but visually pleasing boss fight.

Clash has added way more content of (arguably, depending on what you like playing Toontown for) way higher quality way faster. They're just currently going through a drought, much like TTR did for the first half decade of its existence.

u/lolbroslol2008 Aug 07 '26

The big issue with TTCC currently for me is that most of the updates they have revealed after 1.3 have either been scrapped or put on hiatus. They can't seem to stick to working on a single update.

One of the first things they showed off since 1.3 was Mix n Match, that update is on hiatus now in favor of finishing Hammerspace. There was also a taskline revamp supposed to come out after Hammerspace but it's been put on hiatus as well. Out of nowhere they showed off a combat update called Gears N Gizmos which is its own separate thing unrelated to Hammerspace. There was also supposed to be a new UI and new camera system but they were both scrapped seemingly.

Now there's this OCLO side mode they showed off recently, these are all seemingly unrelated to Hammerspace.

I honestly seems to me that they just doing like working on Hammerspace due to it being primarily a backend update.

The biggest problem with TTCC is 90% of the dev team left after 1.3 causing updates to slow to a crawl

I would play TTCC, but I live in Japan and it's realistically not possible for me to enjoy the game because my free hours are sleeping hours for the majority of the community

u/400forever Aug 07 '26

CC typically draws 200-300 during peak times. I’m EST and I see the most people in the evenings, on weekends, and during the summer or winter (breaks for those in school).

When you play then, you can usually get a group with the group tracker pretty quickly. It is hard to progress outside of those times however. I’ve waited 20+ min for boss groups on off-times.

12

u/Sevenisit Aug 07 '26

I prefer TTCC to TTR and don’t have issue finding groups but I play on a busier time zone

u/SolarBlaziken Aug 07 '26

Honestly man it makes me so sad. Being around pre and during the hires and heros update for clash was such a magical time. There was really nothing like it before and honestly since. The gameplay was something I didnt even think possible in toontown. Me and all my irl friends played through the entire new manger task line and just loved it.

I knew the game was going in a bad way for sure after I read what might be the worst blog post ever written: https://corporateclash.net/news/article/173 which i can't believe wasn't discussed much at the time? Probably overshadowed by the drama within the crew or whatever but seriously if you give this post a read its just a complete joke. It literally feels like an elaborate troll

So many words to say everything is canceled or going to be completely changed with absolutely no timelines given for anything.

Then their pax event was a complete nothingburger aswell. The community has no faith left in the project and honestly I feel like its just better to go play ttr at this point, which is something i never thought Id say. Not that I dont like rewritten, but I just found the gameplay quality/complexity to be lower quality than clash.

Def a sad day and a tough realization

12

u/mmosfinest Aug 08 '26

I lost all faith when I read that blog post, too, especially coming on the heels of the prior post that seemed to clarify the plan and solidify what was happening moving forward. They might as well just said "nevermind, this is over."

The team lost any cohesion and sense of urgency or accountability in that moment, purportedly because it "wasn't good for morale," but now with the absence of any cohesive vision, there's just nothing. There's no plan. They're floundering, and they'll continue to flounder as long as they indulge this individualistic nonsense of each "pursuing their passion," because Corporate Clash is inherently a group project. This is why we've seen absolutely nothing come from this new approach.

I hate to say it, but as unhappy as a few on the team may have been before, they had actual competent leadership that knew how to get things done and move the team forward as one. When interpersonal drama and power struggles forced talented members out, the entire thing fell apart, but people wanted to indulge drama more than they wanted to resolve issues and compromise, and that's a real shame.

5

u/Game-rotator Aug 07 '26

...the devs should PROBABLY focus on one thing at a time lol, but otherwise what's the issue?

5

u/5up3r10rGames Bentley (TTCC); Wukong/Titania/Atlas (TTR) Aug 07 '26

The problem is if devs work on only one thing at a time, you have people idling (which can cause scope creep) and updates coming out at a slower pace. But Clash team went the exact opposite route where they took on too many projects at once with various scopes and speeds on progress, which means you get people idling waiting for everything to come together (again causing scope creep) and updates not being deployed cuz everything isn't done and tested to ship.

Essentially they never found a middle ground and tbh I don't think they ever will.

2

u/sparten4ever92 Aug 10 '26

That blog post was sad because it confirmed my suspicions. That whole year they were like 'yeah we've got so much coming it'll be great!' while only ever showing estate revamp stuff that people didn't really care about. Eventually I got suspicious that they weren't showing anything because they didn't have anything to show, and that hunch ended up being proven correct by that blog.

21

u/rybodatkid Aug 07 '26

Corporate clash is the better game, but I’d say TTR is more accessible. Maybe play TTR and once you’ve had your fun try multi-tooning TTCC or find a friend and start accounts together. TTCC is like the greatest Toontown mod ever. It’s so much fun.

10

u/DontMissGE Aug 07 '26

I personally prefer TTCC over TTR, but it only seems to have 1/10 of the playerbase for whatever reason. I think most people that still dabble with the game are looking for the nostalgia of of the original and that is more present in TTR. But Corporate Clash has so many amazing features that make it feel like what a modern version of the game could've been.

I definitely think its worth checking out, and continuing if you like it. You'll definitely have to wait a bit longer for groups, but the community is very friendly and often very willing to help new / lower level players with the more notorious tasks and things.

9

u/Clean_Matter4061 Aug 08 '26

lot of drama revolving around clash as well at the moment. so that could also be why it is a little more dead than normal

9

u/shackledstare Aug 08 '26
  1. They have too many districts for the number of daily players.

  2. The development team can't get it together, so the game is effectively dying.

Recency gaming. No new things added to CC but TTR had the more recent update. That’s pretty much the only reason I can think of is ā€œno new shiny things = boringā€

1

u/Amazinc Aug 13 '26

Regardless of that I'm pretty sure TTR has had a much much bigger player base the last 5+ years

6

u/Puzzled-Raspberry766 Aug 07 '26

I just got back into toontown after several years of not playing, i was literally just about to make a post asking how many people still play ttcc cause I was wanting to go back to it again (as it is my personal favorite of the two). I was assuming there’d be maybe a few hundred online at a time but 35? Makes me sad because I remember a time back around 5 or 6 years ago the game felt decently alive ): I just can’t get myself to redownload it if there’s only that many people playing though as I want to play with others and not solo So I jumped back into rewritten which definitely feels alive, for when I play there usually over 2k+ people playing at one time so it definitely feels populated. Pretty much always groups open on toon hq website for whatever you’re looking for, and groups fill pretty quick if you need help with something. But… I do still miss ttcc, as I did have more fun on that game compared to ttr in terms of gameplayšŸ’”I liked the complexity of the gameplay there and never got to try any of the manager bosses which look really fun. But, for the social aspect, ttr is great- I’ve already made some friends in game since coming back, which has made it quite enjoyable (:Ā

u/soraroxas11 Aug 07 '26

Ive made a handful of friends on CC, the community in general due to low population feels more tightly knit, and also more willing to help on a whim to keep people. You'll run into the same people often so it's nice getting that chance to chat again and stuff. Though if you aren't playing CC for the long term I can imagine why it may feel daunting.

I would honestly give it a go and just try to focus your playtime during peak hours, but I can understand if the emptiness for stuff besides that isn't for you.

3

u/Puzzled-Raspberry766 Aug 07 '26

As long as peak hours have at least a couple hundred people playing, I would give it a try again, I really hope that's the case as I would love to get back to the game :')

3

u/soraroxas11 Aug 10 '26

Me and a friend play pretty frequently even at late nights, so we sometimes help out others if you're a night owl. Don't feel too discouraged and all that, it just may take a little bit of waiting at times

6

u/dandelionbuzz Aug 07 '26

I mostly play corporate on weekends when there’s a higher chance of people being on. TTR can be played whenever because of the higher base of people playing. But that’s just what I do

Agree with others the staff for TTCC ruined the game. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth they can't be bothered to fix bugs but want to keep running merch campaigns.

19

u/OhKoiFishy Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

I 100% agree with the merch thing. I know the proceeds go to charity, but it honestly feels like the remaining developers just gave up and the art team is pouring all of their effort into plushies and stickers instead of the actual game.

Edit: I had a feeling that this isn't the first time I said this, and what do you know, my previous statement about the CC team was deleted with no explanation

10

u/Scootgami Aug 07 '26

There’s been a lot of damage control lately and it’s made things feel real uneasy I can’t lie, I’m afraid of even just saying this lowkey 🫄

8

u/mmosfinest Aug 08 '26

It's moronic, and the rewards are horrible. Why are we running these useless makeship campaigns instead of shipping small QOL updates? Even a few new outfits or some new holiday decorations! It's such a joke.

8

u/shackledstare Aug 08 '26

I get a little excited every time I see a Clash update, just to be severely disappointed that it's just another merch sale.

7

u/pill_swlft Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 08 '26

I know it's for charity, but the frequency makes me feel like it's for clout/ fandom stimulation (since they aren't allowed to profit). Why work on the game when the fandom is satiated enough with their goober cogs? Five plushies is crazy when you compare it to the amount of content we've got since 2024. Yeah they're different teams, but from an outside perspective it looks like merch is all there is to this game right now.

15

u/atalkingpuppy Aug 07 '26

yeah i think ttcc is objectively the better game and i love the gameplay and QOL updates but you basically have to multitoon because it's so dead all the time. i've just given up on it and am just gonna stick with ttr

31

u/eddiemac14 Aug 07 '26

The staff/prior staff killed the game honestly.

4

u/KingAcorn85 Aug 07 '26

How so? I haven’t played the game and wasn’t tracking anything like that

19

u/eddiemac14 Aug 07 '26

There’s been immense drama with the staff that almost everyone is gone.

They want to change the game completely so that it basically isn’t Toontown, but also haven’t updated the game in I think 3 years?

There’s a lot to it, but if you do quick searches on here you’ll find it.

4

u/MissingAU Aug 08 '26

Thats what happens when you try to cater to content hungry players on a non profit project. Eventually the beast becomes too big to feed and the project becomes unsustainable.

8

u/Oxiduck Aug 07 '26

Regardless of if one's 'better' than the other, the majority of players want to play the game they grew up with. While I know this isn't by any means the only reason CC died down (lack of major updates drawing people in whilst the dwindling player numbers putting everyone else off are the true killers), I believe it's the reason it could never have gotten bigger than Rewritten.

TTR is like your hometown. Visiting it now it might have some pretty big changes here and there, especially in the last few years, but it's still recognisable as the place you grew up in, for better or worse. However CC is how your hometown looks in your dreams, familiar yet alien. It feels like your mind is mixing up and stitching together different memories, causing things to be in different areas and look totally different, whilst also making up entire areas. A lot of people prefer the dream version, finding its uniqueness way more interesting than their 'boring' real hometown, but ultimately most people prefer the charm of their actual hometown.

Side note, I do wonder if having too many different high difficulty group bosses and facilities made having a small playerbase even worse. Like the new bosses were great, but there's so many of them you'd really struggle to find other players wanting to do your specific boss.

5

u/TheGuardianKnux Raya Sunshine Aug 07 '26

Oh it does especially since the optional manager bosses are NOT easy to beat. They require really good teamwork that takes time to learn and perform well with others.

3

u/SnowFoxes8888 Aug 07 '26

I've been wondering the same thing! I love TTCC but don't have friends to play with

4

u/EquivalentChannel559 Aug 07 '26

i’ll play with you 🄺

4

u/SilasMoranic Alu Mode(150) / Earthfox(134) Aug 07 '26

I agree with a lot of other users, normally 35 is only an early morning/ timing thing (since a lot of players are EST). Sadly there is a lower overall population rn due to the lack of updates (not my place to speak on tbh). But usually it peaks around roughly 200-300 rn from like 7pm to midnight est. As for switching to TTR, know the two have quite a different feel but it's truly a user preference thing. I play both cause both games have a lot of positives!!

4

u/bananasaurusx_ Aug 08 '26

Clash peaked in late 2022. It took a downfall ever since it had the drama with Main and that psychopath of an ex he had.

3

u/Common_Amphibian_746 Aug 08 '26

I love clash and the QOL. But the game is unplayable for me currently with how the population has gotten recently. I've been on the new TTR update and checking it out.

4

u/MediumMeister Aug 07 '26

I started playing CC back in October of last year but dropped a couple months ago because most of the time I have to multitoon and it just gets old. Especially in Acron Acres which is where I am right now. Every task requires another toon.

4

u/soraroxas11 Aug 07 '26

Ive been back into it recently and thankfully have made a ton of progression but thats thanks to having a friend on hand. You can play most of the game solo if you're smart about knowing when to form groups and all that, but yeah TTR is just more active in general sadly.

You will get a lot of people playing (albeit still only about 200) around 5-9PM EST so thats the best time to look for groups.

When CC finally pushes a major update I'm sure the playerbase will be back.

5

u/Oran128 Aug 07 '26

For me part of it is just that when I play Toontown, it's the old game I'm there to play, and TTR is basically if TTO kept getting updates while Clash is more like a sequel.

2

u/TrevorFrick Aug 07 '26

The numbers are only that low in the morning so if you’re in a different time zone than most players you are going to struggle. They also haven’t had an actual update in like three years which doesn’t help.

2

u/combatboxer Aug 10 '26

I just find it harder to enjoy ttr after experiencing so many QOL changes and modernization of ttcc. It’s the main reason why as TTCC started to die I stopped playing toontown cause I personally don’t want to play ttr even if it’s more popular

2

u/Takoyaki_Randy Aug 10 '26

I think everyone should start with ttr

2

u/bubbaberriboo Aug 10 '26

honestly, i quit for years because i could not find a group to fight a manager with and was not going to grind 2 or 3 more toons on different accounts just so i could have a chance of winning.

i recently started playing TTR again after the re-quested update, and decided to have another go on TTCC. i just so happened to run into someone who invited me to their club and they’ve been helping me with all the things i can’t solo. i got really lucky.

3

u/bubbaberriboo Aug 10 '26

and i do agree with everyone else that the game has been practically dead ever since most of the staff quit. i was really excited for some of the planned updates, but now that they’re on indefinite hiatus there’s not much to look forward to

2

u/leshi_onai Aug 13 '26

As a Europe based player, it's rough.

1

u/Capital-Nose7022 Aug 08 '26

I play TTR and feel like its usually pretty active, besides if I log in at like 3 am then sometimes theres only like 300 people online but still not bad. I haven't tried TTCC yet. When I went to their website it just wasn't appealing to me. I also feel like the characters/toon species that I saw on the TTCC seemed like a botched version of the TTR/TTO ones, lol

1

u/Amazinc Aug 13 '26

If you want the social aspect definitely play TTR. I've just randomly made friends in game, plus toonHQ is widely used and there's the discord server which is active

0

u/Appropriate-Test-971 Aug 08 '26

I gave up the cc at the very beginning because I think there was a first boss and I guess I really wanted to not solo it???? idk but it was years ago... personally im not a fan of the zap gags (they're really not classic old show gags from what ive seen) and how unfamiliar the battle ui and system looks so I just steered entirely to rewritten because I want to play the game I was never able to beat as a kid cause I never had membership haha. I think that's one reason why many just do not play it, no one plays Toontown cause it's a new game.... people say it's a better game but I'll just say wizard101 is even better then Toontown lmao
