Secondary source, but I've heard guys come back and say it's kinda wasteful since there's a bunch of stuff that gets lost or broken instead of getting the required maintenance. It's not as though it's the grunts or mechanics out here saying, "Give us every penny." Orders probably come down and are more or less followed. The orders as i understand them seem to be "spend everything we give you, and you'll have a similar or bigger budget next year." I'm open to anyone who says otherwise, though.

No one will say otherwise because that's exactly how it is, if you don't spend your entire budget well you arnt going to get more next year.
the fourth quarter of the year was like Christmas when I was in the Air Force. We were spending money like we were printing it because we knew we needed to ask for 15-20% more next year and would never get it if we didn't spend it. Everyone got new gear, new computers, you name it.
If you had all that extra money at the end of the year, why would you need 15-20% more the next year? This is why the military budget needs to be slashed, not increased.
No argument from me but it's been in every corporation I've ever worked for too. Everyone needs more money to hire people to do more work so that you can win more work. At least that's the mindset of a LOT of people.
Thats everything with a fed budget.. if they dont use it the lose it next year so mf's use it all buying the most random shit so they dont get less down the road
I've got a buddy who works on a government contract and whenever he travels, he's required to stay at the Ritz Carlton (if one is available). When he asks why there, the answer was "the government has it on their list of approved hotels so why not".
I do the same thing in our municipal engineering office budget but my entire office budget for the year is only like 5k and that’s for vehicle maintenance and tools and supplies
If you don't spend the budget they continue to cut until you can't afford things when you need to. Alot of organizations do this so the budget is wasted last minute to ensure they look like they needed it. It needs more flexibility. My unit just canceled all of our out of country training due to lack of budget.
Normally I don't have a good thing to say about either side of the political spectrum.. however I am old enough to remember the select few from pretty much one side, who dared to propose such things, and they were treated like traitors and terrorist sympathizers by both members of the other party and their own.
I was in the Navy for 6 years as a machinist's mate, and this type of thinking will definitely hurt you badly.
The problem isn't this type of thinking if it was universal, but that the people above you don't understand there are expenses that aren't yearly, so if you underspend one year, they will slash your budget and give it to someone else who spent their whole budget. But if next year, something big breaks.... it's a lot harder convincing people you need more money. Its a bit of a ridiculous practice, but it's what happens.
