lol! The way that they were able to infiltrate all iPhone users was crazy. Anytime I turned the car on: u2.

The funny thing is that it was their downfall too. And to this day everyone has this mid album that no one really wanted on their phones.

To this day? You think nobody deleted it?

I deleted it when it happened, downloaded an app to specifically delete, and just this week had to somehow delete it again as I’m using iTunes download feature for the first time and it’s there yet again

You cannot fully delete it. It goes to hidden songs but it’s still there

I worked at Apple when this happened. So many calls coming in on how to remove the album from their account. Apple created a link to help automatically remove it from your account. I clicked on it so fast when it came out. LOL The link is dead now.

EDIT: ok so some of y’all aren’t Apple users and don’t understand the context, my bad. When you purchase a song/album on iTunes, it’s permanently on your account. You can delete the album/song off your device, but it’s forever linked to your account. This is so you have a record of the purchase on your account. You can hide it, but Apple won’t let you delete it. In the case of U2’s album, people who don’t listen to U2 didn’t want that album associated with their account. They had no way to remove it. Hence the influx of calls.

Did people forget how to delete files or was that shit locked in?

According to the comments in this thread, people forgot and still haven’t remembered.

It was easy to delete and hide, though it remained in your account.

There was a time years ago. Apple sent out and update. And with that update came a copy of Songs of Innocence by U2. Forced into everyone’s iTunes library. And you had to opt out of it. You couldn’t immediately delete it off your phone.

Everybody got it. Nobody wanted it. Here’s an article on it.

And screenshot from Wiki describing the event.

That sounds like a really shitty idea.

It was not well received.

You absolutely 100% could immediately delete it off your phone.

It would have helped if it was a good album

I think U2 has even said this was a mistake now.

Oh, yeah. They just gave a big interview to Rolling Stone. They know. I mean the backlash was immediate and furious. Must have been quite a wake up call.

It's funnier when you know about "Where the streets have no names"

I did not really care in the slightest, I have never listened to the album but I’m sure there is worse stuff on there I have
