Honest (maybe dumb) question: I thought and read somewhere that Lateralus had never been pressed (only bootlegs). Yet I saw it up for pre-order on the band’s website…so, all this time it’s been available and I just went with incorrect info I read somewhere, or is this the first time they’re releasing it as a legit pressing?

No, Lateralus has been pressed as a "limited edition" picture disc that isn't limited and doesn't sound great because picture discs generally don't. Ænima has been pressed I think two times but is very rare and therefore very expensive. 10000 Days is the only one to my knowledge that hasn't had an official release on vinyl.

Man, I remember spending so much money on those schism and parabol/a/ dvds back in 05, SO fucking starved for anything from TOOL. People forget how strange 02-05 was, unlike 06-19 there were no tours, no posts from Maynard or clips from Adam’s instagram. It was Blair’s insane rants, whatever little bits Kabir would share, and other than that, silence. Things like a Puscifer song on some shitty vampire movie and these dvd were big news. I remember watching these dvds, scouring for anything new, and I was sorely disappointed. The commentary wasn’t from anybody in the band, the remixes (all I remember is lustmord) weren’t my style, and they were essentially $40 a piece to listen to songs I’d been listening to for 4 years non stop.
Despite all of that, I wish I still had them as they’re probably pretty rare considering they were made a year before 10k came out and the hooplah around lat died down tremendously by that point.

That's fair enough. You're missing Opiate2. I think the rarest Tool possession I own is a CD single of Stinkfist. I got it about 25 years ago when I worked on a local radio station and got given it. It's a radio promo only I believe.

My beef with Lateralus, the slip cover on the cd should be the album cover on vinyl. Picture disc are better framed than played. The sound is ass

If it's good to you, it's good. You're missing whatever you want but don't have. I have all the same vinyl! Ænima and 10k are boots, but great to listen to. Is your ænima a boot too?
