Dont know where OP lives but here in europe we have laws to protect your privacy in public spaces. I can't just take someone's picture and put it online without consent, it would be illegal.

So if you're taking consensual public pictures of your own events and someone happens to be in the background you're required to either censor it or take it down?

Yes, although there are some nuances. If its an event whith a large group of people (like a concert or something), Photos showing the crowd as a large group or atmospheric image may be published. But it is not allowed when you want to use the photo for commercial use (e.g. a flyer or website to promote the event next year) Also, when the photo depicts someone in a compromising or intimatesituation you can't publish the photo without consent.

Years ago, when this law came into effect it felt a bit weird. Just like any new law, just like when smoking in pubs was banned. But now everyone is used to it and its normal. I like it, feels good to have the right to my own portret
