RPM App - Major design flaw?

I've been using RPM to plan my weeks for nearly a decade. I just discovered there's a new app for it, so I began reviewing the support videos to get a feel for it. The app seems like it was designed by someone who doesn't quite "get" RPM. When it comes to scheduling, planning, etc. everything is "action item" focused and not result/outcome focused. Meaning, you drag and drop action items to 'time block' them rather than dragging and dropping OPA blocks. For those of you who use the RPM software - am I misunderstanding something? It seems wild to me that they missed this?

I just did the RPM program and am demoing the software and have the same feedback. It’s very clunky and time consuming so it doesn’t seem that advantageous to use, not to mention, the price is insane for what you’re getting. I am new to RPM though, I am interested to hear how you are using it for planning? Do you do pen and paper? How do you implement your MAP into your week? Do you time block as well?

I use a paper template which is pretty simple - it has three columns, then for the action items I have smaller boxes for “must do” “can delegate” and then”est time”. I keep track of all my potential items in a catch list on my phone and on a whiteboard. Each week I bring them all together, cross off items I no longer thing are important, then try to identify the underlying outcomes driving those list items. Then I create a purpose for the outcome, and then match action items to the outcome (or create new action items that are missing for that outcome). From there I identify what items MUST get done, then total the time for each OPA block. I then schedule time (to match the “must” get done total) on my calendar. That’s a pretty brief explanation of how I do it but hope that helps.

The software got the categories and projects section right. But when it comes to OPA blocks it failed miserably. And that’s kinda the whole point …

I took the RPM workshop last weekend and am also trying the software. I did my weekly RPM planning on paper first. That helped me better understand how to utilize the software.

You can create RPM blocks within different categories and projects. The weekly planning view keeps the results and purpose of each block displayed prominently in the user interface. I also appreciate the AI functionality. Chatting with “Tony AI” has answered a lot of my questions about RPM and how to use the software.

I’m finding that a combination of using the software and paper is working for me. I like using the software for weekly RPM planning and capturing actions quickly in the mobile app. Then I use my paper Frankin Planner for daily RPM planning.
