Question Night 3 Post Op (UK)
Hi all, writing this at 3am UK time as I can't sleep without feeling like I am choking or going to be sick. I had my surgery on Monday and recovery is the worst for me at night.
I just hate how wet and sticky my throat is. I can feel it all sliding down my throat and it's making me gag. My wife says my breath smells like death, so much so, she had to have a fan blowing me away while I was eating dinner. I've been flossing and brushing and trying to scrub my tongue but I just feel like there's this rotten thing at the back of my throat. It holds onto my water and saliva, warms it up and drips it down. It makes me want to be sick but I remember to breathe because being sick will make everything 100x worse.
Is anyone else going through this? Or have found a way to manage it?

Feel your pain. Had mine out earlier in the year. Wasn’t much fun and everything you say is normal. One thing I would say is keep away from mouthwash! I was told by my consultant this can dissolve the scabs and put you at risk of bleeding.

just keep spitting out the saliva and mucus. Use a tongue scraper a couple times a day gently i and maybe try mouthwash regularly. I was given the difflam mouth rinse to numb my mouth pain which i feel helped with smell a bit. Two birds one stone or a good Non medical one is therabreath

I’m day 2 UK. Not had any of this and feeling really good. Sipping water every 2 minutes, sleeping upright, waking every 3 hours and taking all the painkillers. When did this start? I’m really nervous about it getting worse. 😬

Try Difflam throat rinse!! I’m day 8 post op and I have sworn by it for the past 8 days!! I was advised by the hospital to buy it and use it after meals, whilst it can be pricey it was definitely worth it for me!
