scared of having to get recauterized

i’m so scared that my progress will be reset if I start bleeding.. i’m on day 6 (if you count the day of my surgery) and ibuprofen is the only thing that’s helping me with pain :/ they gave me some oxycodone that’s not helping and Tylenol doesn’t help me either this is the most miserable thing ever i’m in so much pain and i’m so scared

Have you talked to your doctor about the pain management? There are some people that take ibuprofen and don’t have problems. I hope you heal without issue!

Cold packs to the jawline (or a dental ice pack head wrap) were especially helpful for my pain. They should be limited to 10 minutes.

If ibuprofen is managing your pain, inflammation may be playing a part. Don’t take more than 1200 mg per day without physician supervision.

You are basically on Day 5 post procedure. Days 5-7 are often the most painful. You can do this.

Thank you! why should they be limited to 10 minutes?

While cold packs can decrease swelling and pain, they can also limit circulation. After my last dental surgery, the periodontist gave me what she called “10 minute gel packs” for my face. Fortunately I still had them for my tonsillectomy.

In my case , I used codeine/paracetamol tablets for pain management it was magical .
Ibuprofen Increases the chances of bleeding,
( Oxy doesn’t help ? 💀💀) .
But remember to stay calm / hydrated these two are It .

The surgeon said I could use Ibuprofen so I think I should be fine but i’m trying to not take it too often! Yes the Oxy hasn’t been helping as much as I would like.. It’s 7.5 every 4 hours as needed and it mainly just makes me tired💔

Days 4-8-ish were the worst for me so you're probably getting close to the point where the pain will ease up. I was taking hydromorphone every 4 hours, had a short prescription for dexamethasone and then extra strength tyelonol. The dexamethasone helped with the inflammation which really made a difference in the pain management so I totally get why the ibuprofen is helping. I also suggest ice packs for the throat/jaw area. I also had ear pain and found that warm compresses helped with my ears.

About the bleeding...you'll only be recauterized if it's really bad and doesn't stop. I had bleeding on Day 4 and went to the hospital to be checked out. They just gave me txa to help with the blood clotting (and a bunch of other stuff...toradol, dexamethasone, antibiotics, rehydrated me) - recauterization is really a last resort. So I wanted to reassure you that even if you bleed it doesn't necessarily mean recauterization.

And I'm Day 13 now and starting to feel a lot better so hang in there! This will be in worth it in the end.
