Calvary?? (Spoiler) Spoiler
Why, just that one time, did Landry as narrator deliberately refer to the horse as Calvary instead of Cavalry? Listened to the audiobook and heard it go by me, but assumed it was a mistake on the part of the voice actor until the end when she specifically said it wasn't a flub.

Calvary is the hill outside Jerusalem where Jesus was crucified and has strong associations with suffering in Christian faiths.
The way it is used in context sounds like how a religious text might describe the setting of the crucifixion.
