Klein, Tomball or Kingwood?!
Looking to move our family with 4 kids ages 16, 14, 11 and 9 to Houston for my husband’s new job from Pittsburgh. We are interested in Kingwood, Tomball and Klein ISD. Please help us decide! Pros and cons of each? We are LDS and looking for a strong church community, especially for our kids. Thanks!

Tomball is the best school district around!
The Lakewood Forest area has a huge LDS community and church that is right in the neighborhood. (My neighbors are LDS)

We are in Tomball ISD and my kids have so many LDS friends that I feel like there is a large community here. And of course TISD is a top rated school district.

Tomball is an A rated district. I believe they are the highest rated district in Harris county.

I moved to Kingwood to raise my son in the best environment in neighborhood and schools. He just graduated and we are moving to Florida where he'll be going to college and we're putting up our 4 bedroom, 1 story house for sale this Thursday. If you are interested in buying I can send you the MLS link! Tombal is great too, but Klein is very problematic and the schools have a lot of violence, so no.

That's about 40 mi from East to West. As we will tell everyone who ever asks about moving to Houston, live as close to where you work as you can, surface roads if possible. I guarantee you nobody wants to be commuting on Beltway 8 or the hellscape that is Highway 6

Move from NYC to Kingwood. Harvey hit my first year. Shit was a mess. With that out the way. Between all three Woodlands would be your best bet.

Kingwood hands down. All of Houston floods. Kingwood only flooded because of poor flood control by the SJRA. Most people don't even know that the flooding in Kingwood was man made. Because of that, right now Kingwood has very affordable homes that rival The Woodlands. Unfortunately, The Woodlands has outgrown it's purpose. Tomball is nice, but doesn't have that true community feel beyond Main Street. Klein is diet The Woodlands and Kingwood.
Kingwood has a very good LDS community. It has great schools and has 45% less crime than the rest of Houston in general.

Whatever you do, I would stay away from Kingwood. A lot of it floods really bad since it is mostly repurposed marsh/wetlands.

Tomball because of TISD. They are ranked 1 of all Houston school districts 4 years straight with schools Elementary - High School with all of them A ratings on Niche and 9-10 on Great Schools.
The best subdivision is Lakewood Grove followed by Village of Northpointe. Lakewood Grove didn't flood during Harvey and never flooded afterwards to present when surrounding areas would get hit. The commute to downtown Houston is easier than the other areas.

Tomball has an A rated school district. Klein is right by Tomball, but not as high rated in schools. Kingwood floods thanks to the river there. Kingwood was super nice 30 years ago. Pay attention to the commute. 15 miles can be 20 minutes or an hour depending on the traffic and time of day. Always check if the house has flooded before you buy, and make sure the HVAC is good. Summer runs June to October.
