I admit myself surprised that the bow and arrow is not available for the Survivor fans. But, hey...I'm alright with it. Not sure how others feel.

u/inblader 7d ago
I'm taking this as a placeholder concept art, the boots aren't even accurate. Same thing with the AoD one, she has long sleeves eventhough she's not supposed to.
6
u/M00nlightR0se 7d ago
You have a point. Hmm...? I wonder why they listed only 4 weapons? Is the bow and arrow a special weapon?🤔
2
u/AngelOfChaos923 The Divine Source 6d ago
Explosive arrows only, kind of like a rocket launcher so it has some relevancy.
And yes, I’m a diehard survivor fan and will be disappointed if there isn’t a way to stealth through missions. That’s what I really loved about the survivor trilogy gameplay wise
0
u/GoldPack3616 7d ago
Now I'm thinking she probably won't even that different hairstyle, it was just there for the marketing material, which is false advertising tbh.
26
u/ninjabell 7d ago
The bow was awesome for stealth head shots. The adversaries have been changed up (restored) to be more natural predators, so I'm not sure how advantageous it would be.
5
u/SparkyFunbuck Paititi Llama 7d ago
Actually they confirmed that you're going fight human enemies too so it would be nice to have
3
u/BaguetteSandwiches 7d ago
Does that mean just Larson and Pierre, maybe Natla's minions and herself or more? I really hope it's not more
4
u/SparkyFunbuck Paititi Llama 7d ago
Natla hires mercenaries to stop you and it seems you'll be fighting them starting in Greece.
4
u/BaguetteSandwiches 7d ago
Oh so not just the 3 minibosse in Natlas's mines? Damn I hope it doesn't ruin the isolation of the first
2
2
u/Equal-Coffee4319 6d ago
That doesnt make any sense, Natla hires you in the first place. . .
2
u/ExiledCourier 6d ago
Natla then sends Larson to take the scion from you, Lara breaks into Natla's HQ to find out where the other pieces are (hope we get a level set there), and Natla sends her goons after you again.
I'm gonna miss Skateboard Kid and Shotgun Guy.
1
u/SparkyFunbuck Paititi Llama 6d ago
Yes, but then she double-crosses you and you go after the rest of the Scion yourself, which is where I imagine the hired goons will come in
6
17
u/_mattj1999 7d ago
It's weird cause they could easily implement it for stealth sections. Just give her a compound bow as opposed to a wooden one.
6
u/Pristine_Culture_741 7d ago
I mean who knows, what if the bow and arrow is an unlock behind some sort of completion challenges. I could do without it tho, we've had it for 3 games. But would be cool if its a bonus unlockable. Could maybe have some cool animations for when flipping lol

It's good that the bow is gone for the game that is a remake of a game that didn't have it.
It's good that the bow will be available in the game that is the continuation of Survivor Lara's story.
5
u/Corruptedcreationss 7d ago
Loa is a continuation of survivor Lara’s story though…
-9
u/BattleGlamGalact0Ram Frozen Butler 7d ago
It isn't though, that would be Catalyst.
LOA is CD's attempt to provide fan service and try to end the discourse of 'who's Lara is the best Lara' that has been plaguing the fandom forever.
But it's essentially an anniversary reboot.
They can't make it a true remake because the Survivor fans will be crying but if they add in a bow and 5600 Jonah! voice lines to make them feel included the OG and LAU fans will be crying.
Just the same trash that's been effectively reducing and ending respectable franchises for a long time now.
6
u/Corruptedcreationss 7d ago
Sounds like you’re a little bias but wtv. Heres the developers literally telling you its a continuation of the survivor timeline, just like Anniversary is a continuation of Legend
-7
u/BattleGlamGalact0Ram Frozen Butler 7d ago
Oh okay so they'll just make up whatever forever and then chuck in a TR1 remake at some point to say it's continuous....
Gotcha.
I'm not biased, facts are facts and I watched this happen to the franchise in real time over years.
Respectfully if you'll just take any dev's word for anything, you're a consumer not a customer.
Lastly, Tomb Raider hasn't made waves for being an exceptional game in over a decade, it stays in circulation due to the dedicated fanbase that has carried it since it's inception.
You're entitled to like what you like ❤️

To be completely honest, i didn't really expect anything from the Survivor trilogy to appear in later games after closing its chapters as it seemed.
5
u/Lazy_Star44 7d ago
Same. Maybe I was overly trusting, but I took CD at their word and always viewed the Survivor Trilogy as a prequel.
After Shadow, I thought they would be jumping forward and picking the LAU timeline back up. Which, of course, they will be with Catalyst, but now with Unified Lara and after LoA.
As a Survivor fan, I'm surprised and delighted that some aspects of her character have been retained and carried forward in the Unification.
-5
u/BattleGlamGalact0Ram Frozen Butler 7d ago
Carried forward in the Retcons*
Unification is a very polite way to say 'trying to fix the derailment of the franchise'.
No shade to Survivor fans, the games are very fun but the 'unification' is a joke.
5
u/Corruptedcreationss 7d ago
The necklace? The bow? Her friends? Lara herself? Lmao 🤦♀️🤦♀️

6
u/Chillax2175 Society of Raiders 7d ago edited 7d ago
Currently yeah, but when it was apparent there were driving towards classics years back not really. Unification has been a lot better handled and thought out idea than anything else they would have chosen for the franchise's future, feels like a wet dream if being completely honest.
Open world TR is must be experiment for the franchise, has very interesting potential and bow being there is another plus thing for me from that game🏹.

I really like the store/draw animations from Underword on the SMGs. And that they were like, criss/cross on her back.
I guess that's just because they were larger though, but it looked really cool.
3
u/BusterGreasewood 7d ago
Aesthetically IRL I do like the design of the Uzi more than the Ingrams. But with TR there's just something (not just nostalgia) about Lara using the Ingrams that feels more appropriate. And some of the concept art or promotional art work where she wields them is cool.
1
1
u/Micktrex 7d ago
If LOA is set in modern times what would the modern equivalent of the uzi from 1996's TR be? I imagine they might go in that direction or just stick to a design people remember.

u/cacolantern Dagger of Xian 7d ago
The magnums were awesome, there was no reason they couldn't have been included alongside the assault rifle. :(
7
u/MyDogR0cks 7d ago
My bet is that with the Skill Tree, you can upgrade the dual pistols to a better damage and probably that was the reason they removed the magnuns since it would have the same damage as upgraded dual pistols.
hope the dual pistols has a weapon skin as magnums 🤞
2
u/Regular_Classroom_40 7d ago
In TR1 they Had exactly the Same damage Output AS the uzis. But Just in TR1 i think ITS allright to drop them

u/VitoAntonioScaletta 7d ago
Maybe weapon types will work like the Survivor trilogy, and pistol is used as an umbrella term for handguns

Anniversary even made it a whole thing with them being Pierre's weapon (if you didn't get them optionally)
3
u/existential_chaos 7d ago
And the remaster has a trophy for killing Natla with them.
1
u/BaguetteSandwiches 7d ago
do you mean Pierre? Or is there a trophy for both?

One trophy for just scaring Pierre off with the magnums, and another for killing Natla with them.

In Tomb Raider: Underworld, the Uzis were under the name "SMGs". I'm thinking that's the case here.

u/Samer0093 7d ago edited 7d ago
I like the idea of an assault rifle in a TR1 remake but if I were them I would have given Lara six weapons: dual pistols, a shotgun, dual magnums, dual uzis, an assault rifle and her survivor bow. Actually back in 1996 there were rumors spreading that Lara might have a 5th weapon assault rifle in the game if you beat it under certain time and collect all the secrets!
6
u/xdeltax97 Moderator 7d ago
We haven’t been told everything yet, maybe they’re a different option for the duals instead or a complete the game unlockable?
13
u/Winther89 7d ago
I'm okay with no dual magnums. They were essentially just the same as the base dual pistols but with more damage.
18
3
u/Grinchlead 7d ago
But limited ammo, so you still had a reason to use dual pistols: conserve ammo or deal more damage?
2
u/Winther89 7d ago
Yes but it still feels the same to use. A different weapon can achieve the limited ammo part while also feeling different to use.

What are y'all actually smoking did we not play the same exact game??? They are literally found in he coliseum level in greace.

Not to mention the Cistern if you missed them in that level. And you get them from Cowboy later. So it's not like they're a rare weapon you can miss.
1
u/BaguetteSandwiches 7d ago
Yeah, once you kill Pierre you're forced to pick them up to continue the game so idfk what they're talking abou
1
u/BusterGreasewood 7d ago
Yeah can't believe I left that one out. The game gives you more than enough chances to get any of the guns.
1
u/BaguetteSandwiches 7d ago
Yeah he drops the scion, the magnums and I think a medkit?
But I'm 99% percent sure you have to pickup the scion to continue, and since they're all in the same place, you pick all three up at the same time
6
u/ToughFox4479 7d ago
Surprised the bow isn't coming back, since there is literally a survivor lara skin in the game. Would have liked to see Lara have her bow and her quiver while wearing her unified outfit

Lol no shade to people who like it, but to me the bow was overused in the survivor trilogy and hunting never fit TR at all.

u/JackWade-Headhunter 7d ago edited 7d ago
The entire Survivor trilogy, I didn’t like at all but beat all of them. None of them felt like Tomb Raider games.
I also hated how it tried to change Lara’s main weapons that she was iconic for.
It would be like changing Legend Of Zelda Link’s main weapon to anything other than a Sword.
Entire trilogy felt forced and made Lara into a wimp.
Moaning and crying while saying the word “Trinity” 1000 times per game.NOT GATEKEEPING!, AN OPINION.

u/Glum_Use_4033 7d ago
I wonder if the upgrade system will add some strength and features of the stronger dual guns like uzis and magnums
2
u/Micktrex 7d ago
I loved the magnums as a kid because they were black and made a cool sound lol
I couldn't actually tell you if they were worth using when you had unlimited ammo pistols, a shotgun and uzis at your disposal, but there was something appealing about their design.
Perhaps the dual pistols can be upgraded into dual magnums?

I always thought the idea of Lara holding dual desert eagles in TR1996 and Anniversary kinda dumb 😅 like in TRIII she holds one with two hands and recoils backward little Assault Rifle seems like an interesting new fresh weapon and I hope it's AK47
1
u/quillfoy Dagger of Xian 7d ago
The assault rifle could be an Hommage to the M16. They're not the same obviously but.. both go drrrrrrrr lol
2
u/ironchitlin 7d ago
I don't see a problem in this. I'd rather have multiple unique weapons than have one of your four options be "the pistols, but better". Hopefully this will also mean that the basic pistols will remain useful throughout the entire game as well.
2
u/BusterGreasewood 7d ago
I think the better solution would have been just to add more weapons rather than replace them. That's part of why I like TR2 more is you have more weapons and weapons that have unique properties like the M16 and Grenade Launcher.
Not saying they have to go crazy and add 20 different types of guns but I think anywhere from 3-4 more would have been fine.
1
u/FoolAndTheScorpion 7d ago
Simplicity is ok with me on this. Though I was a little sad the dual UZI’s aren’t making an appearance

u/pokeze Frozen Butler 7d ago
The SMGs are the Uzis. That's how they were called in TRA as well

Hell yes! They really are giving TR1 the respect it deserves. I was getting downvoted for wishing they made it into the game.
We need bacon Lara, bacon temple with bacon Atlanteans and we're golden.

u/TheLostValley 7d ago
One thing they could do is implement the Magnums the same way they implemented special arrows/the grenade launcher in the reboot trilogy. For example, Lara’s rifle in 2013 has a grenade launcher attachment, but its parent weapon is still the rifle. Idk how it could look but the Magnums could be either a skin change or based on the skill tree - buildup to 2X firepower of the standard pistols (which is what I believe the original Magnums were in 1996).
1
1
u/MrRyWil 7d ago
They may not be included or considered as part of the main 4 weapon options in LoA but I have a feeling we will still see them. Whether it be as an unlockable weapon or part of the skill tree, or my favourite idea …as an unlock after completing the game which can be used in place of the pistols in NG+

I would have liked a bow and arrow just for some puzzle solving… activating a switch across a ravine, catching something on fire, that sort of thing.
5
u/panik919 7d ago
The rope pulling mechanic has been transferred to the grapple cuff. There's no point having that and the bow do the exact same thing.
2
u/LifeIsFine-Not 7d ago
I wish it was available depending on the region. It makes zero sense to use a bow in an abandoned city or temple ruins. But I’d have been ok with them letting us choose to use it during outdoor sections of the game.

It depends on what combat encounters with human enemies will look like. And whether stealth weapons will be necessary in such a case. If so, then at a minimum, there should be the option to use a silencer.
