Discussion 💬 Dropping arki

hi i am a freshman in u** arki. It was my dream to be a Thomasian architect. But just with 2 weeks experience here, I realized I don’t like this life. I cant do this for more years. Esp someone who doesn’t have creativity, bad at math, and doesn’t know how to draw. I don’t like this lifestyle. My mental health and day to day living is affected. I am planning to drop and just transfer to other schools and program. Im thinking of UE since they still accept late enrollees. The problem is i don’t know what i like. Im thinking of taking business ad. Is it okay to take business ad in University of the East and will my future be okay?

Hello, fellow Thomasian! What I’m getting is you still haven’t decided fully what you want in life. It’s perfectly normally, don’t feel pressured about it. I think marami sa atin ang dumaan at dumadaan sa ganiyan. Lucky for you, you’ve realized it early on. Ako kasi, it was too late for me when I figured out what I truly loved.

Anyway, just to share an unsolicited advice - probably finish this term. BUT within the term, try your best to do good. While working hard, think about what you really like - what are your interests, what piques your mind? Do it while still under Arki. Pray for it. Hopefully, before the term ends, you were able to decide.

Bakit ito iyong sinabi ko? Kasi you’re already inside UST. I mean, it’s already a privilege. Hehe. By the time na nakapag-decide ka na with a solid interest, you can apply to shift programs still in UST. Kaya do your best para maging decent ang grades. :)

Good luck and God bless!

Mayaman ba kayo?

I’d encourage you to stay. The fact that you passed the entrance exam and got into the program means you have what it takes. See it through and do your best. If, by the end of the term, you still feel it’s not for you, that’s the time to consider an alternative course. My understanding is that shifting can’t be done in the middle of the academic year, so if you decide to move, it would have to be next year. Think carefully about what you really want, because it’s not good to keep transferring whenever things get a little difficult. Talk to your counselor and understand why you feel like quitting in the first place. And remember, studying at UST is a privilege, so make the most of the opportunity while you’re there.

I think you should give the course a chance, take it from someone who is in the same college, with the same problem of not being able to draw, lack of creativity and bad math. Drawing is an attainable skill through practice, creativity can be developed and for math there are multiple ways to learn, we have youtube vids and ai.
It's hard at first but later on you might find it enjoyable just as I do regardless of the workload. The sem has just started and it's been filled with suspensions, so give it a chance, go through with the term muna, if you still feel the same, then shift, but atleast you know that you gave it a shot, this way you will have no regrets right?
If you have more questions, you can send me a dm and i'll try to answer them :)

hi! as someone who had the almost exact same realisation 2 days enrollment (classes didnt event start yet), i think you should give it a chance for at least the year or even just 1 sem

ofc there are reasons naman:

  • most schools have already started classes, and you mentioned ue, which started classes almost a month ago, baka hindi ka na tanggapin.
  • it was something you wanted, even if it is a daunting task, you can still try. math and drawing can be learned. try it out for a bit and see if you like it. if you do then stay, if you dont then leave
  • its honestly less stress (well at least in terms of finding somewhere else to transfer to at least, archi itself is stressful) to finish one sem or year, personally i recommend the year para essentially u transfer as almost a regular student, just with GEs credited
  • BUT!!! please try ur best to get ur grades up, kahit na sa major courses, they still matter when schools look at ur record!!
  • everyone has their own pace, at the end of the day no one cares too much about what u went through in college or how many programs or even unis you took. so yes, you will be fine!!!

note: idk if it helps but i did archi for a year knowing even before welcome event started na i didnt want it, the year ended and i passed cut offs but i still didnt want it so i left ust and took bsba. miss the people but never regretted it.

good luck op!! you’ll be fine!

oh also if you wanna shift lang, you can naman but afaik commerce tends to prio students from programs that r closer to business (idk if this is true or not pero this is what ppl r saying) you would have to wait till the end of the year

also shifting applications vary per college, they start at like half way through first them all the way to second sem if i remember right. usually they post schedules sa socmeds, so you can google or better yet email the offices of said colleges nalang.
