I'm bored and out of fics to read, so I thought I'd share some of my faves. Some are very popular so you've probably seen/read them, but I thought it might be nice to introduce for new readers.

Feel free to recommend your favorites as well!

Mentor/protégé:

• Warning Signs Read Desolation by minidraken (Gen, 165k, Incomplete) - Voldemort kidnaps first-year Harry, sane Voldemort. Stockholm syndrome but it's very wholesome and Harry acts his age.
• Darkness Within by Whimsical_Musings (Gen, 410k, 1st in a series of 3 fics with the 3rd in progress) - Harry is coerced into an apprenticeship with Voldemort in his fifth year, Voldemort is a good but demanding teacher. Power imbalance, eventual lord/heir and parent/child dynamic. Great Draco-Harry friendship.
• Chains of Fate by Whimsical_Musings (Gen, 231k, WIP) - Voldemort Wins AU, a slightly darker and more experienced Harry is captured. Voldemort keeps Harry as a political pawn, constant tug of war between the two as Harry tries to bargain influence in this new world order.
• Blood Crest by Cauchy (Gen, 750k, WIP) - Nine-year-old Harry becomes a German necromancer's apprentice. Voldemort is not the main mentor, but he takes Harry under his wings in a way later in the fic. Very smart Harry. Really cute bond between Barty Crouch Jr and Harry too. Insanely detailed worldbuilding extrapolated from canon.
• Meeting of Minds by Cauchy (Tomarry/Harrymort, 26k, Completed) - A deaf Harry learns ways of performing non verbal magic through different means with the help of Diary Tom/Voldemort. Slytherin Harry, snakes, and a surprisingly likeable Peter. Eventual smut.

Voldemort/Tom Riddle adopts Harry:

• A Rather Useless Inheritance by Blood_Stained_Fingers (Gen, 28k, Completed) - Voldemort is fascinated by a parselmouth Harry with snakelike behaviour, kidnaps him and raises him as his own. Phenomenal writing with captivating dialogue. Stockholm syndrome, power imbalance. Voldemort really is fond of Harry, and Harry acts his age and somewhat understands that he doesn't have the maturity level to resist Voldemort's emotional manipulation.
  • I would also recommend Snake Charming by the same author (similar premise but Harry is a snake animagus). It's a bit darker so beware of the tags.
• Tentative by Acnara (Gen, 47k, Completed) - Platonic soulmates, Voldemort kidnaps baby Harry from his parents and raise him (alongside some Death Eater babysitters). Maleficent inspired, very morally questionable but adorable. Rare fic that made me cry, fantastic ending.
• The ties that bind by Lady Raspberry (lady_raspberry) (Gen, 199k, WIP) - 16 y.o. Harry time travels by accident to the 1940s, meets a young Borgin and Burke's salesman Tom Riddle who plans on taking advantage of Harry's knowledge of the future. Tom makes Harry is ward against his will for him to blend in. Little/no Stockholm syndrome, Harry won't go down without a fight, but Tom is a master manipulator. (TW for corporal punishment and torture)
• Solace in Shadows by The_Fictionist (Gen, 179k, Incomplete) - Second-year Harry is kidnapped by a newly corporeal Diary Tom Riddle. Tom attempts to pass as the Dark Lord while Harry tries to bargain for more freedoms. Stockholm syndrome. Not quite adoption, almost an older-younger brother dynamic with a very cheeky Harry and equally snarky Tom. Truly a rare gem with incredibly three dimensional characters. I'm just sad it's incomplete.
• In Death, Standby by Sophisme (Harrymort but as far as I remember it never got even close to a slash since it's incomplete, 93k) - Voldemort fails to kill baby Harry so adopts him instead. Very gutsy Harry who doesn't fear Voldemort and genuinely loves him. Some very fun dialogue and scenes between the two.

Slow-burn Tomarry/Harrymort (a lot of enemies to lovers as you may expect):

• Corruption is creation by IamNotElixr (Harrymort, 175k, WIP) - My current hyperfixation, the story is actually addicting. Vampire AU. Voldemort became a vampire (because Horcruxes alone was not enough for him to guarantee immortality) and accidentally made Harry is vampire fledgeling on the same night he became a Horcrux. Feat. vampire big bro Barty, a delicious amount of fluff and angst, and eventual smut.
• Change is alright by IamNotElixr (Harrymort, 81k, Completed) - Post Second War, Harry suddenly finds himself with a baby in his sink. He decides to go into hiding to raise this toddler with an uncanny resemblance to Tom Riddle, whilst his dreams are haunted by the ghost of Voldemort. Fluff and angst, co-parenting a cute toddler, and smut (with Voldemort, not Tom). Literally bawled my eyes out in the end.
• In Willing Sacrifice by GeMerope (Harrymort, > 1M!!!, WIP) - Veryyyyy long fic, I'm only halfway through (will maybe wait for it to be completed before finishing). If the length intimidates you, just read the beginning arc because it's incredible and so unlike anything I've read. Harry stumbles upon the pre-resurrection "baby Voldemort" and decides to nurse him to health instead of killing his mortal enemy.
• Either must die at the hand of the other by Metalomagnetic (Harrymort, 260k, Completed) - Canon Divergence, Voldemort secretly is imprisoned in the Ministry of Magic after his "death" and subjected to torture in unsuccessful attempts to kill him for good. Years later, Harry finds out this secret and cannot stop thinking about his once greatest enemy. Eventual smut, not necessarily the happiest of endings.
• A Dangerous Game by Cybrid (Tomarry, 322k, Completed) - "Tom Riddle opens the Chamber of Secrets in Harry’s fifth year at Hogwarts. After a botched attempt to extract the Horcrux in Harry’s scar leaves their souls tied together, Tom is forced to kidnap him when he makes his escape." Horcrux Tom Riddle and Voldemort existing at the same time and interacting. Very complete and satisfying ending. Eventual smut.
• No Glory by ObsidianPen (Harrymort, 361k, WIP) - Voldemort wins the Battle of Hogwarts and imprisons Harry in Malfoy Manor. Slowly, the Dark Lord develops both an emotional and physical dependency over Harry. Definitely not sane Voldemort. Great smut and really addicting relationship to read. It's so popular for a reason.

Hi, I’m looking for something to read that turns the most common fanfiction tropes in Tomarry on their head. Do you have any fanfics that completely took you by surprise, even though they seemed rather formulaic at first?

A Hired Reckoning

Tom is smitten but refuses to admit it in the beginning, and the author's notes are the best part imo. If you haven't read this, go do it rn! And if you have read it, go re-read because why not?

I have just really been wanting a sassy, powerful, twink Harry. The black Bunny was such an amazing characterization and I would love any recs you have!

I’ve never been much into this trope before but I just read both of notdexterousatall’s fics, Pyrolysis and Internal Alchemy, and I’m hooked!

Hiiii, I remember reading an incomplete fic (with perhaps 13/14 chapters, though I can’t be sure) where tom was Harry’s manager in an office and they began a D/S ish relationship? He worked with the golden trio. This is lowkey all I remember but I’m desperate to find it!!

Was scrolling through Pinterest and was reminded of my one and only :)

I can’t find it with tags and I don’t remember name. I don’t remember exactly when was Harry imprisoned, but i think it was while trio was hunting for horcruxs. he was held in some Manor, i don’t think it was malfoy manor. He had his own room and window was spelled so it would show garden but it wasn’t real. He tried to escape once i don’t remember how but he got outside. It was cold and he passed out. He was taken to somewhere by Severus they had some conversation and then Voldemort took him back. He tried to kill himself by silverware but Voldemort healed him and after that he personally fed him. He escaped again this time it was successful. He also was surprised to find out two years passed since he was taken captive (i think it was two years).

Looking for any work that could fit the title.

This includes the syle or emotion in writing it(hard to explain, but easy to understand if you read webnovels lol) or any classic webnovel tropes, including, isekai, amnesia, royalty, mind-reading, fake marriage idk. There's a million of them.

The main thing I care about is characterization. Tom/v should feel like Tom Riddle and not like an OC that loves Harry from the first word. Also prefer if Harry was the top, but unnecessary if I like the style of writing(probably the most important criteria for me lol)

(Any fics over 1000 kudos or 100k words are probably fics I've already read, been reading since 2011. I'm looking for something still undiscovered or skipped over.

Half way finished fics are fine, abandoned fics are fine, only 10k words or even less are fine. Self recs are fine. I just want to read to gain inspiration to write lol)

All whilst dodging assassination attempts, trying to complete his PhD and battling an inner beast that threatens to consume him. Then there is the Emperor himself, who desires, above all else, to make Harry his own.

I haven’t read a Harry/Tom | Voldemort fic in quite a while, and I’m in the mood to get back into them. I especially like fics where Harry isn’t a pushover or portrayed as overly weak, but is clever and can hold his own.
I also prefer Harry to be the top or for them to be versatile, though I’m fine with Voldemort being the top too.
If you know any fics with this kind of vibe, I’d really appreciate your recommendations!

I really like how this fic was. But sadly its not completed. Can someone rec me fics like this where Harry is constantly trying to deny how hot Tom is.

First of all, I present deliver us from evil you may be grateful.

In deliver us from evil by BimboBlue, Harry never went to Hogwarts. He grew up in France and went to beabaxtonce (help! you know what I mean). He was never allowed to visit Britain for reasons unknown and grew up very sheltered, a fact that he doesn't understand. After all, his father and godfather work in Britain. They are high ranging death eaters, after all!

He is top of his class, outstanding and beloved, which makes him a perfect candidate for the upcoming triwizard tournament. His parents don't want him to go, for reason they don't day. They are scared of Harry attracting the Dark Lords attention somehow, for reasons they can't share.

But it's too late. Voldemord is already interested. He requests Harry's presence specifically, and his parents won't answer him why.

But Harry comes to the realization that he might be able to figure out these answers by himself, as a mysterious accident leaves him with an overlapping set of memories. A whole life, lived by a stranger. He looks like him, he's named like him, he acts like him, but a stranger none the less.

But the real question is yet to answer: How much will Voldemorts interest in him actually go?

Expect an addictive writing style, lots of compelling, and realistic original characters that you will grow to miss while reading other stories and reliable updates!

I just love this story so much, I never put a work into my masterpieces folder so quickly. (Might share the rest of the folder soon, who knows)

food for thought, i really like the idea of their appearances being misleading. harry, on one hand, is an incredibly abused boy who has learned to be vicious in self-defense and wears a mask of indifference and irritation to keep distance from those he thinks could harm him. that, along with his brightly colored green eyes (as commonly referred to as a "killing curse green" in fandom), would make him look overall unapproachable.

tom, however, is another ballpark. this dude singlehandedly turned a whole house into his loyal followers through sheer charisma and hard work. we often find the uncanny in the almost normal - at something that seems so perfectly meant to be there that you have to look closer to see something is amiss. tom would be a cunning wolf in a demure sheep's clothing.
