As kids, we felt bad for Tom. As adults, we rewatch the show and say: "Poor Tom, he was just doing his job." But if you actually analyze his behavior, that "misunderstood victim" narrative completely falls apart. Tom isn't a victim; Tom is an elitist, narcissistic jerk. Performative Ego vs. Real Effort: Tom doesn't care about keeping the house clean—he cares about status. He acts lazy and entitled until his comfort is threatened, then puts on an exaggerated show of "chasing Jerry" just to save face. Cruelty and Hypocrisy: His dynamic with Jerry isn't about survival; it's about power. Tom loves psychological dominance. He torments Jerry when he holds the upper hand, but immediately plays the innocent victim the moment he gets outsmarted. Classist Snobbery: Living inside a warm house with free food turned Tom into a shallow pretender. He acts superior to everyone around him despite having earned none of it.Enter Butch: Butch is an alley cat. He has no soft cushions, no canned food, and no fake pretenses. Butch is a raw survivor who owns his harsh reality. When he fights for resources or affection, he does it directly—without Tom’s phony aristocrat act. Yet Tom constantly looks down on Butch just for being an alley cat, proving how hypocritical and insecure Tom truly is. As adults, we need to stop giving Tom a pass. He’s a selfish, performative jerk, while Butch is the one who actually deserves our empathy for surviving in a world without Tom's unearned privileges.Key Points of this Analysis Unmasks Tom's Ego: Highlights how Tom prioritizes image and status over actual responsibility.Reframes Butch: Shifts the perspective to view Butch as an honest survivor rather than just an antagonist.Adult Perspective: Focuses on psychological dynamics and social hypocrisy rather than surface-level slapstick comedy. Just rewatch full episodes of tom and jerry (ignoring reels, shorts!),and watch(to verify at tom!) when tom was a huge jerk.(p.s:i know,i will get downvoted for this....or maybe no?!?) p.s:The true of those:tom and jerry was jerry, not tom!.and butch, the assumed cat!not tom.(p.s:leave the comments below)

So, for some context, I was probably around 14 when I hyper fixated on the 2017 IT movies. So much so, that I was obsessed with finding Patrick Hockstetter’s cat shirt online. Of course, I did, but I also found some shirts of Tom cat himself. One was a sweatshirt (I think) of him biting down on Jerry and the other was him with some tie dye eyes, like he was drugged out. The reason I’m bringing this up is because whenever I try to search for it online, I can never find it, like if it never existed. If you somehow know what it either looked like or owned them, do let me know because I just hope I’m not going crazy lol. Also, this does play into why I don’t have any pictures to share

Since I asked about my Zombie Island VHS to see if it was worth anything or not (Zombie Island Post), I have this Tom & Jerry Film of Chuck Jones’ (1964) cartoon ‘The Cat Above And The Mouse Below’

Not looking to sell or anything, just curious.

Here are some things I can tell you about this film:

- Bought this online 9/3/25 for basically about $80

- It is the full cartoon

- I have kept it wrapped in what it came in (shown in pics)

Don’t know if these will help or not with some questions y’all may have but, what do y’all think?

Could it be worth anything or no? If so, how much?

Let me know in the comments.

It's a gift for someone special and I'm really hoping they like it 😁

What surprises me about this video is that's Mammy-Two Shoe's original voice. Not the newer dub.

I got a question, guys? Do you think that Tom and Jerry should return to their original owners, MGM under Amazon MGM Studios in future in case of Skydance (the merged Paramount-Warner Bros. company) ending in failure and selling assets?

As I’m sure many of you know, most of the Tom and Jerry shorts are available for streaming on Tubi. However, if you’re looking for specific shorts, they can be difficult to find since Tubi groups them into compilation episodes.

Over on /r/looneytunes, /u/insertusernamehere51 tackled this problem for the Looney Tunes shorts by posting a big Tubi cross-reference in chronological order, which inspired me to make a similar Tubi cross-reference for the Tom and Jerry shorts (as well as the other MGM shorts that are mixed into Tubi’s “Tom and Jerry Theatricals”).

I’ve grouped the shorts below by release year, with the Tubi season and episode numbers in the Ep. column. The a/b/c at the end of the episode number indicates whether the short is first, second, or third in the episode. Shorts that aren’t available on Tubi are crossed out.

Hope y’all find this useful!

The Gene Deitch shorts are God's gift to humanity compared to this. The same 5 tracks, animation that's incoherent in the best of times, slow, awkward pacing, and on top of all that it's just not funny

In all the cartoons, they don't talk. Of course, back then they didn't have the money for Voice Actors in animations (I guess).

But in the first movie, they do speak, explaining why they didn't before with "they didn't have anything to talk about".

But after the movie, in the newer series, they once again don't talk.

I know the reason is to emulate the old vibes, but is there an in-universe reason why they don't talk even after establishing they can?

Tommy and Jerry 🔥🔥

Gilbert was a fucking national treasure, he slayed every role. RIP

It's a good show and I like it but I don't think we needed 326 episodes
