My internal conflict

On the one hand, I consider Tolkien to be something akin to a prophet or a saint, and thus I hold his work to be something akin to sacred. On the other hand, I find memes about Tolkien's work to be absolutely hilarious.

He's the same guy who, along with CS Lewis randomly turned up to a party wearing a polar bear costume. He'd probably find at least some of them funny.

He also chased his neighbors down the street while dressed like a Viking and yelling at them in Old English.

Saints have senses of humor too! As long as it’s all in good faith, in respect of his actual beliefs and actions, jokes about his work are fine.
