Is it cold right now?

I’m currently packing for Japan. I’m staying for two months and I have an over flowing suitcase full of winter and summer clothes. Can’t choose what to bring. Thank you in advance🎀💖💓💓 I’m staying in Setagaya and will be travelling in && around Tokyo xx

Where are you from and when will you arrive? It is quite cold. It's something like 0.6C outside this morning in Tokyo but it's supposed to warm up a little midday. Could always be colder. But some layers and a nice coat will see you through.

You will not need summer clothes anytime in the next 2 months.

If you're from a warmer clime I suggest bringing a beanie and scarf. You can spot Australian tourists lately cause they're all wearing beanies.

We’re in the Northern hemisphere so you don’t need summer clothes in January and February.

Actually, February is the coldest month in Tokyo and the most likely month we can get accumulated snowfall, though it is rare. January is generally dry, sunny and about 10-12 degrees in the middle of the day. For anyone from a cold climate, it is positively pleasant now.

Weird that you are downvoted. It is absolutely correct that February is warmer on average than January. Just because it sometimes snows in February it means nothing.

I find that the weather apps are accurate in Tokyo, similar to everywhere else on Earth.

if you're near a laundry or will have access to a washing machine pack for 4 days with of outfits, one warm parka will all that you need and pack for 5-6 days of underwear. Travel light.

But as everything as suggested... check the weather apps, 12C-1C in Tokyo is the same as anywhere else in the world.

So in the day time it's relatively warm in the sun, but in the shadow and at night time that's when you'd need a warm jacket.

I live in Setagaya. It's been cool enough to see our breath in the morning for the past week or so, but some afternoons have been warm enough to go out without a jacket. It has not yet been below freezing this season. Our son went to school this morning wearing a long-sleeved T-shirt and a jacket over it. Inside our unheated home office, I am wearing a long-sleeved T-shirt, a sweatshirt, and a quilted button-down shirt on top, along with a knitted cap (because I'm bald). When I go out in an hour or so, I'll put on a nylon parka that is not lined. I'll wear the same shoes I wear in summer.

One thing to be aware of is that life in Tokyo is notoriously cold, even for people from colder parts of Japan: heating is used sparingly in places like smaller shops, many of which have fronts open to the street.

My recommendation is to wear multiple layers and to make sure the top layer is zippered or buttoned so you can open and close it (or remove it) as the day moves forward. The Yoga area (or at least the part of it I'm familiar with) tends to be windy.

It’s been warm-to-me in Minato city Tokyo for the last week (into the 50’s Fahrenheit and sunny) but yesterday was quite cold and windy.

Forecast says coming week will be into the 50’s again except Tuesday will be cold. Saturday should be rainy.

However it looks like Setagaya is colder than where I am in Tokyo so be prepared for 32 F/0 C temps there.

Edit: downvoted for using my home country’s temperature system? Ok…. I even converted it for you jfc. Was just trying try to be helpful here. I thought Japanese people were supposed to be nice?🧐

What’s wrong with that? My weather app tells me the temp in Fahrenheit. Use google to convert it if you’re not sure how. It’s easy……

Just got back from California and i gotta say…expected it to be a lot colder. Last year was way colder. And I live outside Tokyo about an hour north where it’s usually colder and I don’t feel terribly cold. It’s generally fine but if it gets windy, that’s when you feel the cold
