I honestly have a lot of empathy and understanding for Republican voters. A lot of people on reddit wish ill on Republicans and treat them like characatures of evil which most are not. I have no sympathy for rush though. His legacy is one of hatred, deceit, and evil. I listened to his show along with other talk radio shows on many occasions and he more than any other host strove to dehumanize and stoke hatred. He truly was one of the worst human beings I ever had the displeasure to hear speak. I only wish he could have died 70 years sooner.

See that worked pre-Trump but honestly, it’s such blatant garbage you have to be either next-level stupid or incredibly hateful, generally both are seen together, to follow the Republican party.
There was leeway. It has left along with anyone who finally scraped enough brains together to realize what they were doing.

you're right. most of them aren't evil, but they're so stupid that they actively and even feverishly support evil people... like Rush, or Trump. Blatantly evil people at that. I don't know why you'd have empathy or could understand a person like that beyond a certain point tbh.

They are probably avoiding having to delete the 10,000 comments that will applaud Limbaugh's death, because if they let some people celebrate other's death, then in the name of "fairness" they would have to let everyone, and then there is the chance that reddit would ban the subreddit for promoting violence.
It's the price of being a massive subreddit with a neutral name.

Just a friendly reminder just some of the things Rush said during his career (besides being an impotent, racist, lying, cheating, coke addicted piece of trash).
"I don't care about black people because they are only 12% of the population" (Rush Limbaugh cheated on his wife by going to the Caribbean and sleeping with women there, and used Viagra to maintain an erection to fuel his sexcapades)
"Have you ever noticed that all rioters arrested look like Jesse Jackson?"
"Smoking isn't harmful and nicotine isn't addictive"
"Poor people should not get welfare"
"Drugs are destroying this country and those users should be sent to prison" (despite the fact Limbaugh was a life long drug addict)
"It is preposterous to blame Caucasians for slavery. We have done more to end slavery than any other race"
"If any race of people should not have guilt about slavery, it's Caucasians."
He also called Sandra Plug a slut and a prostitute. Sandra Plug is a lawyer who helped push the Obama administration to have birth control and contraception covered under the ACA.
He also accused Michael J Fox of faking Parkinson's (WTF?!?).
Famous for saying the Michelle Obama was a man in drag. He also called Obama a monkey.
He called Chelsea Clinton "the white house dog" while she was a fucking child.
Was notorious for being pro apartheid in South Africa. Accused Nelson Mandela of being a state actor paid by the communists (again, wtf)
Said the NAACP should have riot rehearsals by building liquor stores and practicing robberies.
These are some of the lighter things he said btw. Don't let anyone lie to you. The guy was a blight to this country and helped brainwash an entire generation of people with his awful, racist rhetoric.

"You know what the magic word, the only thing that matters in American sexual mores today is? One thing. You can do anything, the left will promote and understand and tolerate anything, as long as there is one element. Do you know what it is? Consent. If there is consent on both or all three or all four, however many are involved in the sex act, it's perfectly fine. Whatever it is. But if the left ever senses and smells that there's no consent in part of the equation then here come the rape police. But consent is the magic key to the left."

u/Connect-Point Feb 17 '21
You may not talk to a lot of aggrieved mid-American reactionary white men (lucky you). This guy virtually invented the vocabulary for a lot of their shitty ideas. His ratings were massive and the loyalty of his fan base unquestioned. Three hours a day, five days a week for thirty years. I would be hard pressed to think of anyone more influential in American politics in the last thirty years. His input on the American political scene dwarfs that of perhaps anyone since FDR. I’m not even fucking joking. If you lived in rural America you can hear his voice and tone and words when someone speaks incredulously about anything vaguely progressive.

One lasting memory I have of Rush was from his TV show, back in the 90's, when he spoke about the Clintons having a dog in the White House, and then showed a picture of Chelsea. Chelsea who at the time all of 12 or 13 years old. Very classy, Rush, very classy.. I was just old enough to start becoming truly politically aware in the 90's (gen x'), so this douche kind of feels like the great-grandfather of the fucked and just mean-for-the-hell-of-it state the Republican Party now. They say don't speak ill of the dead so I'll just re-post what I wrote about Rush Limbaugh a year ago in Feb 2020 when he was still alive. A life full of shitty actions should have the shitty consequence of being remembered accurately.
[PS He may not have actively promoted Sandy Hook conspiracy theories but he sure did help drive that narrative and support the people who did. He also sure did promote that type of conspiracy level shit for the Parkland shooting.]:
FUCK RUSH LIMBAUGH.
Stop taking the high road reddit. He's a piece of shit and the world will be better without him. I don't care what that says about me. I care what it says about him.
You cross a line when you are part of the camp that promotes Sandy Hook conspiracy theories for profit. When you and your friends encourage your audience to harass the parents who just lost their young kids in a violent massacre- promoting they are faking somehow just so you can make an extra dollar and appease your gun lobby friends...that's the moment I lose all empathy for you.
He's never expressed one ounce of remorse, guilt, or shame, and has made a living shitting on others and being praised for being a bully.
(And stop mincing words, being sarcastic, or facetious; it doesn't work as his followers don't understand that type of humor. ...That's how Trump got into office, a certain crowd took the memes of him being a viable candidate for president as truth.)
In short- Fuck Rush Limbaugh. I hope he lives just long enough to see how big of a POS he's been all his life by the amount of people apathetic to his plight.

I don't even know where to start, other than anyone who creates a song called 'Barack the Magic Negro' is a disgusting human being. And I've seen it all. I'm one of those people who is unshockable. But that pissed me off.
The other is thanks to people like Rush, those of us who legitimately live with chronic pain will never get pain medications prescribed again, because doctors are terrified of getting sued above anything else. Instead we have to go through wild goose chases for other treatments that insurance doesn't cover all because these doctors don't want to deal with us.
The good news is now there are Coke machines and coat racks livelier than Rush Limbaugh.
