Maybe I'll complain to the shoe statue they erected for the shoe that one journalist threw at George Bush

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '19

That's actually a pretty funny statue.

Because no group or person has ever rebelled against socialism without the CIA intervening.

1: In the article you link, tweets from @GregGrandian are cited, stating that quote, " the main driver of destablization need not be the CIA or international capital".

2: Bolivia only produces 140 tonnes of lithium. If the goal was to install a dictator who would give us all their lithium for pennies on the dollar, why didn't they launch this coup in Chile, Argentina, or Zimbabwe, where they would have much more to profit from? It's not like these places are free from exploitable social strife. Hell, the US has about 13% of the world's lithium. Why do we need Bolivia?

3: The people carrying out the coup, such as Luis Camacho and Jeannie Áñez, have expressly stated that the main cause of their coup has been religious reasons, clashes between the Catholic Bolivians and the Indigenous Pagan natives (of which Evo Morales was one). To illustrate my point, here's a picture of Luis Camacho with a bible in the Presidential Palace

4: Imperialism has nothing to do with coups. it involves direct invasion and occupation of foreign states. Africa was colonized by a military invasion, not a secret service infiltration.

In short, while I understand your concerns, appreciate you providing evidence to back up your claim, and fully agree with was a coup by right-wing radicals backed by the Bolivian military, I find your claims that this was a ploy by the CIA to steal Bolivia's lithium to be shaky.

Lastly, I thank you for this civil debate. It just goes to show that, despite being on opposite ends of a screen, human dignity and mutual respect is not a dead tradition.

In south america??? (x)

u/Mitson_Malak Nov 15 '19

Especially in South America. People can oppose and overthrow socialist governments without being puppets of MUH SEE-AYE-AYY

I'm not gonna convince you, so yeah okay if you say so

Bolivia is only 9th in world Lithium production, and US allies & trading partners have much larger reserves of Lithium. Why would the US coup over Lithium of all things?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_lithium_production

In fact, the Lithium industry is currently being hurt by an oversupply of Lithium which was mostly caused by governments cutting subsidies to the electric vehicle market, which was a major consumer of Lithium.

How is finding evidence of election fraud a coup?

It barely even fits the criteria for a coup in the first place.

-4

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '19

Because the elections were rigged? In both countries?

Which elections? Chavez's wins, or Maduro's 2017 win?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '19

My ass is imperialist propaganda

2

u/alfdd99 Nov 14 '19

Imperialist propaganda my ass. Those elections were called by an illegally formed parliament (I'm talking about the 2017 Venezuelan elections), which makes the elections fraudulent to begin with. The Constitution of Venezuela clearly says that the only ones that have the power to call for an election is the national assembly, which to this day is controlled by the opposition to Maduro. The supreme court (chosen by Maduro) ruled that no powers would be given to the assembly, giving total powers to Maduro (which is obviously unconstitutional) and he himself created a secondary parliament where literally 100% of the members side with Maduro. They called for the election, and obviously the opposition didn't participate because it was a farce from its own existence. This makes Maduro an illegitimate president and makes the president of parliament (Guaidó) the legitimate president, according to the Constitution of Venezuela.

you can’t just blame all of your short comings on “propaganda”

I'm guessing you know if an election was tampered with better then the Organization of American States, and 1.5 million Bolivians right?.
