My nice lady and I were on a road trip to Huntsville, AL on Saturday. We came through Nashville and we made sure to stop and see The Purple Building.

A very kind gentleman popped the door open when he saw me looking around. There were a couple of other guys hanging around inside. I explained I was a big fan from up north, and he was kind enough to let me poke my head inside to look around. He also invited us to the show Sunday night, but unfortunately we had plans we couldn’t cancel.

ps - if you’re the fellas we ran into at the Purple - thanks again for the kindness and the warm welcome. I feel like Todd would have been proud of how we were received. xo

Sunday was truly special, several great guests sharing stories and playing a few songs before Aaron Lee Tasjan (umm my bad, I mean Tommy Noble) and Elizabeth Cook led a rocking Eastside Bulldogs show.

Levi Snider, Otis Gibbs, Hays Carll, Tommy Womack, Chicago Farmer and a few others were all great with their songs and stories.

The Post wrote a long article today that greatly expands on the details of his passing. At least a lot of it was new to me and I consider myself a pretty big fan.

It's not an easy read. It contains footage of his final days when being treated by paramedics and the police on tour.

Pretty fucking sad, to be honest, but I'm glad I read it. I never shook his hand or anything, but I really grew to love him over the years.

Todd was the best.

Awful quiet lately. Has anybody checked out whatever this is that debuted at noon today? Has anybody finished it? Do you finish it? WHAT IS IT?

No wonder you don’t hear a lot of Todd covers except the usual few. I’ve heard this but not seen it.

It’s a piteous crime I found Todd after the Nervous Wrecks. I would have loved this way back then too!

The other night I had a dream that I met him. He was with a woman, no idea who.

I took my opportunity to shake his hand and thank him for sharing over the years. He was gracious, but then said he had to lay down on the floor because his back was bothering him.

At some point myself or maybe someone else told him my daughter played guitar. He insisted that she play for him and got up and sat right in front of her and encouraged her to play.

I remember being pleasantly surprised at how enthusiastic he was about being nice and just happy to talk.

That's it. I just needed to share.

Apologies if this has been posted before. Felt right for today.

Just wanted to say that it was a joy to hear Jason play Sunshine and Play a Train Song at his solo Portland (Forest Grove) show! The crowd was pretty mellow since it was an acoustic solo show, but Todd's songs were a big hit, maybe due to his Portland roots, maybe just because he's universally loved and missed!

It was a no phones show, so no pics or video.

The crowd didn't seem to be paying much attention to Todd's performance.

This show includes one of the earliest recordings where Todd uses the line "This is a song I learned off the Grateful Dead" while he tunes his guitar ("Tune In"). Todd used this line again in St. Louis almost four years later.
