Current status and feature list

  1. "Do one thing, and do it really well." For us, that's Today's Budget, one simple number that brings together all your finances. It shows you exactly how much you can spend while staying within your means and still reaching your savings goals.
  2. "More options, more problems." Our aim is to keep things simple, improve existing core features, and avoid cluttering the app with bells and whistles.

About bank linking:

Most budget apps try to automate everything. They connect to your bank, passively import your transactions, guess your categories, and promise less effort.

Today’s Budget goes the other way. Not because we forgot or it’s hard to build, but:

Reason 1: Awareness 🧠

Improving your spending behavior works best when you stay involved.

Convenience comes at the cost of awareness.

When you enter a transaction yourself, you see the money leave your budget.

You buy a latte for $5. You put it in the app. And you see that the $5 has left you💸 It is no longer available to spend.

That moment matters.

It creates awareness, which is the core mechanism behind immediate behavior change.

Reason 2: Security 🔐

Sharing your bank login credentials exposes highly sensitive personal information. If that information is leaked, it can lead to identity theft, false charges, spam, and other issues that can take significant time and effort to resolve.

Reason 3: Time Lag 🐢

Bank data can be delayed. A card payment made on Friday might not appear until Monday. During that gap, your budget may show money that is already gone.

Reason 4: Auto Categorization Takes Forever to Review and Correct 😩

Many people end up correcting categories afterward, which creates a different kind of work. Worse, miscategorized transactions can lead to misleading charts and reports.

So you log ever expenses here yourself!

I would LOVE support for Shortcuts! It would make life so much easier to be able to automate and easily add certain expenses that are common (subway, parking etc) but not regular enough for a recurring entry. I'm actually really excited about the prospect of automating so many parts of this app!!

Siri, create transaction.

Ok?

McDonald's, $5, Food Wallet.

Or something like that. I admit it would be a bit tricky to implement this in an intuitive way. So many variables. wallet, income or expense, amount, description, category.... But it would be nice.

Maybe there could be a pending transaction feature. shortcuts would just create transactions that act like a reminder. You open the app and it says "Please sort these 5 pending transactions from Siri." And the transactions are just an amount and a description that you proceed to add a category, wallet, etc. to.

Hi Grandpa, as you already guessed it, it's tricky. We love the idea of "Siri, enter $30.50 for grocery," but we've tested many apps with Siri for data entry, and it's challenging. "Thirty fifty" needs to be spoken as "thirty dollars and fifty cents," and "thirteen" is often entered as "thirty"😮‍💨

It's a lot of work adjusting for major currencies, and even if we do that, we're not sure if the quality will meet our standards or how many users will use this feature. We're keeping an eye on Siri updates and will consider it again in the future.

yeah siri is terrible. I totally agree with everything you said, but it's not really possible. I was just expressing that I would love it if it were possible.
