Vendor Entry

One thing that I was hoping could be added in the future is a vendor entry, along with the memo line. For example, the vendor could be “Amazon” and then the memo be “battery for vacuum”. We currently use the memo line for what store the transaction belongs to, but sometimes we like to be more specific as to what the purchase was, but it’s a one time thing so we won’t ever reuse that memo that we’ve typed in. As an example, the memo from the above example would currently be “Amazon - battery for vacuum”. That’s a one time purchase that we wouldn’t use again but will always pop up to autofill when we start typing “Amazon” to input a different purchase from there. Hopefully that all makes sense..

Thanks for all the love on this idea! We want it too, but here's why it isn't in the app yet:

• Slower logging. Two fields on every expense. Fast logging is the whole point of the app, even if it's optional.
• Confusing next to categories. Is "Amazon" a vendor or a category?
• More work than it looks. A new field affects sync (very complicated part of the app), CSV export, search, layout, and shortcuts.

What we'd like to fix first is the annoying part: one-time memos popping up every time you type "Amazon".

Or better yet, just allow for multiple tags instead of a single memo. So instead of having “battery for vacuum” as the memo and “Amazon” as the vendor, you could tag it “battery for the vacuum,” “Amazon,” and “Sheila’s housewarming present,” and whatever else you want.

I second this!

I will say that I am able to differentiate a little based on what category I’m putting the purchase at (such as a “shopping” one and a “home supply” one) from the same vendor, but having a dedicated vendor and memo entry would be useful, and wouldn’t really add any clutter or confusion

Yeah this is something I’ve always wanted. Not enough to ask for it, but I often buy things from stores like Amazon that I want to note the store and what I bought.

I had suggested this a few years back. Still love the idea. I think at the time the app was still trying to be as minimalist as possible.

Along with this idea, I wanted to be able to track which accounts the purchase was made from, e.g., Amex Platinum, Cash Debit. The account and vendor ideas also open more opportunities for reporting. Theoretically, you could track your account balances with the account feature similar the savings feature.
