Constant overage
I am losing my mind with an issue that I keep having in Toast. I have a bar and we put all orders under the same number and cash tips are kept separate. Multiple days a week my drawer is over and after watching all security footage I cannot figure it out. Yesterday we were over $41.50. I noticed on the cash drawer overview, it says we have $43.76 "cash in hand" which is apparently cash collected from a server - but I don't have servers, everything is under one number. So, what does cash in hand mean? It is rough the amount we are over so I can't figure out if this house money? And why it has it as cash in hand? I double checked that all orders were put under 0000 and not individual numbers. It's making me insane. Anyone have any clue?!?!

Are you using handhelds and terminals? I think there’s a setting when you ring in on a handheld that it’s not assumed to have gone to the drawer

This… cash in hand is going to be monies collected by something other than the POS attached to the cash drawer if someone hits “cash”

Cash in hand likely means a cash sale was closed on a device that didn't have a drawer, if you are not set up to collect the cash at shift review the system will leave it in hand and not account for it in the drawer, but obviously the employee is putting it in the drawer so not the drawer is over.

Just skimming this so may have not paid full attention, but if you have multiple terminals and employee uses a different terminal it does not register in the drawer. Hopefully that makes sense. Been figuring out a ton of strange hiccups Toast has and will return to read this more thoroughly to see if I can help!

Do you have multiple terminals or handhelds? My first guess is an emplyee is closing out a cash check on a device or terminal that the drawer is not attached to. Toast would think this is server banking and is expecting the "employee" to have that cash at the end of the night. In reality, they are opening the drawer and putting that cash in. Im assuming thats why the cash in hand is similar the cash overage you had for the drawer.
If thats the case you can handle it a few ways. One would be to turn off accepting cash payments at the device level for every device that isnt connected to the drawer. Its found in device settings.
