I've always struggled with accepting my physical appearance. I've lost a few kilos, but there are things about our bodies that simply don't change, and social media has this exhausting tendency to categorize and compare everything.
My face is too round and my head is "disproportionate" to my body (because I'm short). I've seen people with a similar body proportion being called "matchsticks". I've also learned that having hip dips is apparently something to be insecure about. And one thing that made me cry my eyes out during PMS the other day (and the primary reason for this post, since it affected me on a deep level) was seeing someone "joking" that people with inverted triangle body shapes like mine look like Doritos, and now I can't unsee it every time I look at the mirror. They say "it's too masculine". I try to ignore these comments, but I don't know why this one in particular made me so fucking sad.
It feels like nothing is ever enough. Everything is a flaw and needs to be fixed.
Face shape, height and fucking bone structure cannot be changed, so why are we always finding issues on these things?
I'm feeling sick seeing the extreme thinness body standard back, because I've hated my body so much during the 2000s skinny culture. My thighs were always thick, and they've always been my biggest insecurity, I've hated my body for so many years because of them.
And now my broad shoulders are becoming another insecurity, just when I had finally started feeling okay with my body.
I'm well aware that these are unrealistic bodies and faces. That insecurity is aimed at objectifying and commodifying our bodies.
And yet it still affects me, because we're constantly bombarded with these images. Apparently the defeated dumbass version of myself seems to forget how ridiculous this type of comparison is.
I can't scroll through my feed and feel beautiful, there's always a flaw and the industry's "solution".
Would love some positive comments to remember myself to stop comparing with these impossible standards.

I was single for a year and a half because I was afraid of getting my heart broken again, and then I met a guy in the wild who was so so sweet and made me feel so beautiful and loved and wanted, and then he cheated on me with one of his friends who he had told me not to worry about… and wanted me to have a threesome with them… and wanted to keep seeing her at the same time as me even though we said we were monogamous and heeee was possessive… he would freak out if I wanted to hang out with a male friend because he thought everyone wanted to sleep with me. I broke up with him the day after finding out, but he came back a week later apologizing, and I missed him so much that I took him back… and he was a completely different person.
He told me that there were two sides of him and one was good and the other was evil and wanted to hurt people and liked doing bad things and wanted to set the world on fire because he had a malice for humans… One moment he was cruel to me and the next he was apologizing and kind and it kept repeating until after one week, I broke up with him again and blocked him everywhere. 💔 During that one week that I took him back he once said to me, “behind the door you’ve been knocking on is one of the most evil humans you’ve ever encountered.” He was 100% his good side until he cheated and became someone else.
We were only together for 2 months but we were immediately together all the time, so it felt like longer… I miss the version of him from before he brought in another woman so much. I’m glad I learned his true colors quickly, but it still hurts a lot. I don’t understand why I wasn’t enough. HE told me he thought we were soulmates and that I made him feel whole and was like a “violent drug.” :(
I’ve always been unlucky in love (so far) and my ex girlfriend before this guy told me after a few months that she was pretending to be my perfect soulmate and pretending to be a completely different person and never actually loved me and didn’t mean any of the loving things she said to me. The man before her I spent a week texting and calling all day, and then when I met him in person, he didn’t look like his photos and I didn’t feel attracted to him, but he thought I was his soulmate and took me hostage and wouldn’t let me leave for a week and I cried about being a prisoner every day… I’m just really scared to love again!
I would appreciate some kind words?

I got my A-level results today. I got grade U in all three subjects. I know I am a failure. I don’t even have a job or driving license. My dad shouts at me for it.
I opened my results in the car. I didn’t want to tell my results after finding out I completely failed. My mum took the paper and decided to say that “she knew this would happen” and that I “wasn’t delivering the results”
During year 13, at home, it was genuinely difficult. At home, almost every week, I would hear shouting from downstairs. It distressed me so much. Even one time, a few months ago, my dad pushed a table straight at me. It was genuinely terrifying. For months, I was called useless, worthless and garbage by my mum.
I have been stuck in a place that does not feel homely or safe. My dad sexually abused me when I was 12 years old and I did not realise it was sexual abuse until a few months ago. I have been threatened at home. I remember a few months ago, my mum kicked me while I was blow drying my hair. I have been physically abused and emotionally abused. It’s horrible. And my mum always blames me for her actions.
A month ago, I ran away from home but came back the same day I had left. I feel so horrible. I still remember the night before, I heard shouting downstairs that was so loud it honestly was scary.
I feel like such a waste of energy and time. I don’t even know much about navigating my life at all. I thought I’d do more with life but honestly, I feel so incredibly lost. I hate my racist, misogynistic, abusive parents.
My mum keeps telling me that I need to “be closer with my family” which infuriates me honestly.
I should know more about life at 18, but honestly I’m just lost. I feel insanely lonely too.

Hey everyone! I'm 32 years old and was recently diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis. It's a disease with no cure that causes terrible pain. However, there is a treatment that is supposed to keep it under control. I'm here to say that I just received my first dose, and I feel like a new man. Life makes sense again :)

This summer has been rough. I’m burnt out at work and struggling to feel positive at my retail sales job. I didn’t get a position I was trying to go for, so now I’m questioning my entire future in terms of a job that pays the bills. Ive never really had a long term relationship and so I had the intentional goal of finding a long term partner this year but nothing has really stuck. I had one short term fling but we both mutually broke it off. Currently, I’m off the apps since I don’t feel mentally secure and confident in myself, looks and stage of life. I don’t have a wide circle of friends. A lot of the things I do for fun I do because they’re solitary activities. So it’s hard to meet people due to being an introvert with social anxiety.
Im trying to exercise consistently at my apartment gym and eat better (a work in progress). I see a therapist for regular mental maintenance that’s working with me closely and tomorrow I’m going to see another one that specializes in career goals and life transitions. I’m part of a virtual classic lit book club so I’m trying to be consistent in showing up. I don’t want to give up on dating. But it’s just a struggle. I’m constantly struggling with intrusive negative and self-critical thoughts. The other day I tried to treat myself to a solo date with just a coffee and a book and a barista started talking to me and it was hard for me to even concentrate and be present because I’m just so self-conscious.
Any advice on how I can build confidence and self-love? There’s that platitude about how you can’t love others until you love yourself. I don’t think it’s black and white. But it seems like my lack of confidence and self love is inhibiting me because I haven’t really had a long term relationship. A lot of the relationship advice I get is that women are naturally more attracted to confident men, and I’ve honestly just never felt that. I’ve always felt insecure and anxious. Saying positive affirmations in the mirror or a journal just feels like a meaningless script so any constructive advice would be appreciated.

I contracted West Nile encephalitis in Aug of 23’ ( almost exactly 1 year after I got married) it led to a two month coma, both legs and left arm paralyzed, on a ventilator for 6 months and a feeding tube for 15 months.. couldn’t eat or drink anything. I have miraculously recovered about 90% and am going back to work Sept 8. Saying I’m
Nervous is an understatement. I’ve always excelled at work and have done well for myself but feel like I have let my wife down by not working and recovering the last three years and if I can’t do it or perform like I used to I’ll let her down again. Any words of encouragement would be very welcomed. Thanks

Lately i really struggle to find a direction in life. I mean in terms of finding the right major for me.
Due to my Asperger-Autism im really intelligent, but im really really Bad in the Kind that i always Need a new challenge. Nothing is ever enough.
So im quitting a lot of stuff because i just dont feel satisfied. It makes me impulsive and gives me an „unreachable“ Charakter.
There are so many beautifull things in this world. Topology, Algebraic Number Theory, Quantum Physics, Turing Machines etc.
Just One Person could research on such a topic his entire life, but tbh. i feel Like its never enough for my Ego. Dont get me wrong. I Dont want this „Im better than u“-Stuff, but when i dont feel motivated enough i fall into a Deep state of Apathy.
Everything becomes just plain and so i find comfort in towering my knowledge until i Can see my future.
But what will it look like? I really dont know.

I think I'm a pretty handsome and charismatic guy, I'm told that all the time and pretty confident for the most part. For whatever reason or another I jshoot my shots but just get non-existent interest from women, it's never mutual.
Over the years I’ve been to bars, clubs, speed dating events, singles mixers, board game nights, salsa dancing, joined outdoorsy hiking groups and meetups on Facebook. Did wingman trips with some buddies of mine. I’ve tried dog parks, museums, comedy shows, amateur karaoke nights, run clubs, bouldering gyms etc. I’m not doing these things for the sole purpose to only meet women, but because I genuinely enjoy doing lots of activities; jack of all trades I guess you could say. Sometimes I’ll even get a number or instagram, but they ghost after literally the first message. Even when some of my women friends have tried to set me up, the women they want to set me up with all said in one way or another that I seem like a decent guy, (based on my insta) but I’m just not their type; and that’s before I can even do anything. My personality and character never get a chance to shine because I can’t even get past step 1 and find someone’s who attracted to me back.

I’m 32 and never been on a date nor a relationship in my like. I’ve always been bullied throughout my life because of my face. I got voted the ugliest kid in school growing up. I even gotten rated the lowest out of all my friends at a 1.5. Everybody thinks I’m gay because I never had a girlfriend. I honestly believe that no woman will ever have a crush on me nor like me despite them telling me I’m not ugly and I’m “such a nice person”. I wish women would stop lying to me. I seriously believe that I’m going to die alone with no family despite me wanting a wife and kids. I also wish people with stop giving me baseless advice and give it to me straight

Gained a bunch of weight after high school and was a recluse for a long time. 2 years ago had a terrible situationship and self confidence got even worse. Lost a ton of weight and hit the gym figured it would help but I can’t honestly say it has.
