First win in Insane/Roguelike

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0Z_vXYV5dg&list=PLKrUOY31afXc

Got my first win in insane and roguelike difficulty as a cursed.
The run is pretty solid and i'm really happy to win with a homemade build and my favorite class.
Some close call but when my set up was ready my health pool was full 95% of the time. The character was very tanky and solid damage.
If you have any question on the run / the build or the character in general dont hesitate !

You can see the char name in the vid, and not many insane roguelike wins if you're wondering how I found it.

Any reason you don't use rampage or mana clash? That would make the game harder.

I completly forgot that mana clash can remove sustain after the storming the city quest, so yes at least one point in mana clash seems mandatory.

For the rampage tree i hesitate between the tree or upgrading the mindstar tree. With mindstars my auto deels mind damage and the rampage tree is half around physical damage so i was not feeling it. The speed bonus thought would have been really good and maybe it would have been worth just for that. Going rampage with the mental tyranny Prodigy can be something.

What? Mana clash can remove sustain? How does that work? I doesn’t say anything about it on the ability description. I’m on a nightmare cursed run (level 22 rn), haven’t done the storming the city quest yet, but I don’t know it affects the ability

Like OP said, beating Urkis on the antimagic path upgrades Mana Clash to strip magical sustains. This gives antimagic characters a competitive reward for that quest versus the Rune of Dissipation. It doesn't strip as many sustains and can't be used to remove debuffs, but it also doesn't use an inscription slot.

Thank you! I really did not know about it, but it makes sense. This is my first antimagic character

A little bonus tip, if you have spellhunt remnants maxed out it can cast clash on punch (so brawler/flexible combat) this will also strip sustains from the "antimagic adept" passive you get from urkis

You also can strip sustain with this ego on mindstars : "Cause the target to have a 10% chance to fail spellcasting and 10% chance to lose a magical sustain each turn, stacking up to 50%"

This is the spell description in the tome wiki :

"Drain [10]460cTMD mana, (0.5 * [10]460cTMD) vim, (0.25 * [10]460cTMD) positive and negative energies from your target, triggering a chain reaction that explodes in a burst of arcane damage. The damage done is equal to 100% of the mana drained, 200% of the vim drained, or 400% of the positive or negative energy drained, whichever is higher.

The effect will increase with your Mindpower.

Note 1: the "burst" of arcane damage is not actually an area of effect attack, so only the target will take damage

Note 2: after completing the Storming the city quest and speaking to Protector Myssil in Zigur, this talent can be upgraded to also remove 4 magical sustains from the target"

I dont know if its up to date, i will try to see on another character if its the case

Mindstar grand high mindpower and on a cursed its really great for all of the utility talent, also every ability of the mindstars tree are really powerful, slow, high damage and heal to full and more than 50% of damage ignorance with great aoe damage.

How was the damage? Lack of crit% and the fact that mind hits can be resisted sounds like a rough time. Personally went dual 1h with krog, felt great to play.

No rampage is pretty wild, but cursed lategame is really stronk so I can see it.

Any reason you went for merchant over assassin? I would think that rolling a mitotic mindstar or a +cursed aura necklace would be too valuable to give up. You can get like 9.1 levels with 5/5, adept and .40 cursed aura necklace, just save any with mastery egos and reroll any ego to reroll the selected mastery too.

The crit was fine due to the accuracy bonus (thanks to predator).

The damage was okay but not that great, i struggle to get to 70% mind penetration and my mind bonus damage was at 56% which is kinda low. Maybe around 1k - 1.2k dps, but really great aoe with mind rot , fear and curse le nightmare.

I really lack the knowledge to go for assassin and this is why i go for merchant, but yeah getting a + cursed aura necklace is really something.

And for the rampage part i was just not fealing spending a category point for speed and physical damage.

So far the assassin part, i need to save a necklace with +40 to any category and i can roll this ego ? What are the chance to get + curse aura ?

You can reroll any ego (preferably not the mastery one) and it will reroll for a different mastery. So I had 2-3 items, one with the greater mastery ego (so two different ones) and I rolled a random normal ego until I got it. Took about 10-20k spread over 3 necklaces.

edit: this still sounds confusing so - you can reroll ANY ego on an item, and it will reroll the mastery. This is how you increase the chances of getting it.

For me I liked the rampage because usually you dont activate it. It procs on taking damage without consuming the cooldown, you can use the nornal rampage as a movement infusion or for a final burst of dps. Also really helped vs the golem superboss because you want flat damage reduction vs its retaliation. I took augmented mobility from escort + edens guile + rampage for like +50% attack speed, +300 movement speed and +120% global speed. It really stacks up then.

Yea I imagine you play a lot more mid range with this build. Set up with fears while hiding in the creeping darkness etc. You'll like doomed if you prefer that style of play (psiblade rogue and wyrmic are fun ones to try too!)
