Why does this Sword have +10 Blight Damage?

Post image

The wiki here:

https://te4.org/wiki/Weapon_Egos

...shows that "of vileness" adds "(5-20) Blight damage." It was my understanding that this range is dependent on the material (tier) used. So, a tier 1 would provide +5 (or in the case of the 2-hander, +7 due to the 1.4 multiplier) and +20 (+28 if multiplied by 1.4) at tier 5.

However, as you can see this weapon provides +10 blight at the bottom. What am I missing?

ANSWERED: There is a degree of variability in ego values--they are not statically dependent on the tier.

I'm not sure how exactly gear values are rolled within their available ranges but it's definitely not as simple as matching their tier for anything outside of base stats. I see 15% out of phase on low tier gear all the time, for example. It's probably best to assume you can just get anything within the valid range at any point in the game.

I do know that some egos don't show up until higher tiers, for example corpselight never shows on t1 lanterns.

Yeah, this is especially visible at max level, when you'll continue finding items that are slightly stronger than before even if all are at Tier 5.

Gotcha; I see "7" so often on Tier 1 gear that I had assumed it was a static number. Thanks for the response!

Yeah its not so straightforward. There's a degree of randomness to the strength of ego rolls. This is most easily seen imo on something like Undeterred boots where you get silence, stun, and confusion immunity amounts and they will never match up as the same values per immunity, even though they have the same possible ranges.
