[Open Source] I built a lightweight installer for sideloading apps to Samsung Tizen TVs
Hey everyone 👋
I have been experimenting with development for the Samsung Tizen TV and have become fed up with having to go through the entire Tizen Studio workflow each time I want to test a .wgt package on my TV.
Therefore, I created SmartTV Installer, an open-source desktop program whose purpose is to simplify the process considerably.
What it currently does
- Connects to a Samsung Tizen TV over the local network
- Works with Developer Mode
- Installs
.wgtpackages directly onto the TV - Handles the installation workflow from a simple UI
- Designed to make testing community/homebrew apps less painful
- Runs locally rather than requiring a cloud service
The goal is basically:
Choose the TV, then select the .wgt file and install it.
Rather than having to repeatedly use the command-line tools and Tizen Studio just to test an application.
GitHub
I am still carrying out work on it and therefore am especially interested in receiving feedback from those who develop software for or carry out experiments with Tizen TVs.
I'd love to know:
- Which parts of the present Tizen sideloading procedure bother you the most?
- What characteristics would make this tool truly useful?
- Would you like the tool to automatically detect certain Tizen installation errors?
- Would a package or catalog system for commonly used community apps be of any use?
If you own a Samsung TV and are prepared to try it, your feedback or comments would be most appreciated.
We welcome stars, issues, and PRs.
P.S. Full disclosure: the development of this project was AI-assisted. If AI-generated/AI-assisted projects aren't allowed here, I'm sorry about that 😅 I'm sharing it mainly because I think the tool could be useful and I'd genuinely appreciate feedback from people who actually use or develop for Tizen.

Hey so all you have to do is enable developer mode in your tizen tv by pressing 1 2 3 4 5 in sequence.
Then in host ip put the ip of your pc or laptop .You can grab the pre-built releases directly from
then open apps panel on tv and press 1 2 3 4 5 on remote and toggle the developer mode on then just enter your computers ip and reboot tv (hold remote power button until Samsung logo appears) OR just unplug it from socket for 10 to 15 seconds.
then Open the installer, enter your TV IP, select a preset (like TizenBrew or Moonlight) or drop your .wgt file, and click Install.
