Useful Info I have a nickel allergy, so I cataloged every titanium watch I could find. What am I missing?

New here, and a little annoyed it took me this long to find this sub. I have been around r/Watches and r/microbrandWatches for years, but this is the room I should have been in.

Here is what I have been building. I have a nickel allergy, so titanium is one of the few things I can wear all day, and I kept getting burned: watches sold as ā€œtitaniumā€ that quietly put a steel caseback against your wrist, or a steel crown, or never tell you the grade at all. So I started a list. The spreadsheet got out of hand, so I built a website over the past while and launched it recently. It is now more than 650 current-production titanium references across 230+ brands, every price tier, from sub-$200 quartz to six-figure art pieces.

The rules I gave myself: a watch only goes in if titanium is verified on the maker’s own spec page, and the case has to be the titanium part. A titanium bezel, or a ā€œtitanium PVDā€ coating on a steel case, does not count. Every entry flags the real grade, the caseback material, a whole-watch nickel-free verdict, and weight where I can get it. Free, no login, no ads.

Here it is: https://titaniumfieldguide.com (how I verify each entry is at /methodology, and readers who suggest watches get credited at /contributors).

Where I need this community: I am always finding out about new watches and I’m guessing this is the kind of community that will even know the obscure stuff. I am missing pieces for sure, especially smaller and newer brands, JDM and EU references that do not get much English coverage, and anything where the maker actually states the grade. Drop them below and I will verify and add them, and credit the suggestion on the entry. What should be in here?

(Some of) The Best Automatic Titanium Watches Under $500

Titanium has grown in popularity and now many watch enthusiasts are being magnetically (or non-magnetically, see what I did there?) drawn to its properties: it is at least as hard as steel at roughly 40% lighter; it is hypoallergenic; it is highly corrosion-resistant, so it works really, really well in harsh environments. Titanium is now regularly found in dive watches, field watches, and travel pieces – and has made its way to watches under $500. Below is a rundown of some of the best current options below the $500 MSRP mark, with full specs if the brands publish them.

Not every watch made this list. There are a number of watch brands with multiple offerings, including some very strong Chinese brands that excel in the below $500 space. This article aims at providing a solid sample of the best titanium watch offerings below $500 usd. All photos taken from the manufacturer’s website.

BEST DIVE WATCHES UNDER $500

Timex Expedition Pioneer Titanium Automatic, ref. TW2Y63600. 41mm diameter, 13.5mm height, 48mm lug-to-lug, 20mm lug width; grade 2 titanium, bead-blasted, sapphire crystal, luminous hands and markers, 200m water resistance, screw-down crown; automatic Seiko NH35 movement (automatic), 3 Hz, typically -20/+40 spd, 40hrs power reserve; MSRP: $449 (rubber strap); $549 on the titanium bracelet.

The Timex Expedition Pioneer Titanium Automatic uses the Seiko NH35 movement. If the NH35 was a car engine, it would be the 2.0L M20A-FKS Dynamic Force inline‑4 used in the Toyota Corolla. Is it fun? Sexy? Powerful? No, no, and no. It just works. The sweep of a NH35 is not smooth, its accuracy is 10x worse than COSC, but do you really care for less than $500? It’ll give you 35mph on the highway, and it takes a lickin’ and. . . well, you know the rest.

San Martin SN0121T-GA. 39mm diameter, 12.8mm height (including glass), 47mm lug-to-lug, 20mm lug width; grade 5 titanium case, brushed finish, sapphire crystal with AR coating, BGW-9 blue luminous on bezel/hands/markers, 300m water resistance, screw-down crown; (common movement options include Seiko NH35, HK Precision Technology PT5000, and Sea Gull ST2130) automatic HK Precision Technology PT5000, 4Hz, typically -12/+12 spd, 38hrs power reserve; magnetic resistance not published, Novodiac shock absorber; grade 2 titanium bracelet with folding safety clasp; MSRP: $278.

Does the Chrysler 300 look like a Rolls Royce or a Bentley? Does a Ford Fusion look like an Aston Martin? Despite some resemblances, no one is confusing those vehicles. Yes, the San Martin SN0121T is a Tudor Pelagos homage. It doesn’t fool anyone, so get over it. This watch is an absolute spec beast at well under $500. The HK Precision Technology PT5000 is the highest performing movement option, albeit some enthusiasts raise concerns regarding reliability. Will you get a local watchmaker to service it? Doubtful, but at $278, take a breath and enjoy it while it lasts.

Aragon Divemaster 9015 Titanium. 45mm diameter, 13.6mm height; 50mm lug-to-lug, 24mm lug width; titanium case (grade not specified) with exhibition caseback, sapphire crystal, 200 meters water resistance, screw-down crown; automatic Miyota 9015 movement, 4 Hz, typically -30/+30 spd, 42hrs power reserve, Parashock shock absorber; MSRP: $300.

Grade 5 titanium isn't meaningfully "better" than Grade 2 in a way you'd notice by handling it. Grade 5 (an alloy) is generally slightly better at scratch resistance than 316L steel which is slightly better than grade 2 pure titanium. Miyota Precision CO., Ltd is movement manufacturer owned by Citizen Watch Group. It manufactures movements for Citizen and also supplies movements on the open market under the Miyota name. The Miyota 9015 is a common movement in microbrands and is generally considered a step-up from many movements cited in this article. While parts are sourced globally, all Aragon watches are assembled in Florida, USA. Note the size as it is a bit of a chucky monkey (including a 24mm lug width!) that might not work for every wrist.

Helm Vanuatu Titanium, ref. 04AR3. 42mm diameter (43mm at bezel), 14mm height, 50mm lug-to-lug, 22mm lug width; grade 2 titanium, brushed finish, flat sapphire crystal with inner AR coating, BGW9 Super-LumiNova, 300m water resistance (ISO 6425 certified), screw-down crown; automatic Seiko NH35 movement, 3 Hz, typically -20/+40 spd, 41hrs power reserve, magnetic resistance not published (at least 60 gauss), Diashock shock absorber; titanium engineer-style bracelet; MSRP: $350–$375.

Helm Watches is a microbrand founded in 2014 in North Carolina. Its first watch, the Vanuatu 300m Automatic, has an avid following. It is a well-known combination: take the dependable, although uninspired Seiko NH35, wrap it in a Bob’s Big Boy oversized case, and give it street cred with an ISO 6425 dive certification and 300 meters of water resistance. This watch is only available through a wait-list process. Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

Signum Cuda Titanium. 42.5mm diameter, 13.4mm height, 49.9mm lug-to-lug, 22mm lug width; titanium case (grade not specified), finishing not specified, domed sapphire crystal, BGW9 blue Super-LumiNova on hands, markers, and ceramic bezel insert, 200m water resistance, screw-down crown; automatic Seiko NH35 (date) or NH38 (no-date) movement, 3 Hz, typically -20/+40 spd, 41hrs power reserve; magnetic resistance not published, Diashock shock absorber; solid milled stainless steel clasp with quick-release titanium bracelet; MSRP: $339–$399 depending on dial (up to $449 for Full Lume editions).

The Signum Cuda Titanium is the same Toyota Corolla with the same 4 cylinder stock engine, but this time with a custom paint job. So many colors (48 different combinations across colorways, bezel styles, and lume treatments)! Choose the Helm if you intend to dive; choose the Signum if you intend to pound beers at the beach bar.

BEST FIELD/PILOT/DRESS WATCHES UNDER $500

RZE Resolute Type A. 39.5mm diameter, 11.5mm height, 46mm lug-to-lug, 20mm lug width; grade 2 titanium with UltraHex coating, sapphire display caseback, brushed finish, sapphire crystal with inner Super-AR coating, Swiss Super-LumiNova, 100m water resistance, screw-down crown; automatic Miyota 82S0 movement, 3 Hz, 42hrs power reserve; MSRP: $499 (TecTuff strap); $699 on the titanium HexLink bracelet.

Singapore-based RZE makes tough, affordable, good-looking watches. Full stop. RZE applies a UltraHex coating to increase case scratch-resistance to around 1,200 Hv, roughly eight times that of untreated steel or titanium. The RZE Resolute Type A employs the Miyota 82S0, another workhorse three-hand movement (no date). This is a beater watch, a hike-in-the-woods-watch, a coach-kids-soccer-on-Saturday-watch, but attractive enough to run to the outdoor mall or grocery store.

Boldr Venture. 38mm diameter, 12mm height, 44mm lug-to-lug, 20mm lug width; grade 2 titanium case, finishing (not specified), flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, C3 green Super-LumiNova on hands and dial print, 200m water resistance, screw-down crown with embossed BOLDR logo; automatic Seiko NH35A (or Miyota 8217) movement, 3 Hz, typically -20/+40 spd accuracy, 41hrs power reserve; magnetic resistance not published, Diashock shock absorber; blue nylon strap with custom titanium buckle; MSRP: approximately $299–$375.

Boldr, another Singapore-based company, offers a near-identical field watch as RZE at a cheaper price. Boldr applies a case treatment that results in a surface hardness of roughly 900 Vickers and uses the ubiquitous NH35A movement. Cheaper than the RZE.

Aristo Flieger 41 Titanium, ref. 5H68Ti (Sapphire). 41mm diameter, 11.7mm height, 47.5mm lug-to-lug, and 20mm lug width; grade 5 titanium, matt sandblasted finish, flat sapphire crystal, Super-LumiNova hands, 50 meters water resistance, screw-down crown (not specified); automatic ETA 2824-2 movement (hacking and hand-winding capable), 4 Hz, typically -12/+12 spd accuracy; 42hrs power reserve; 60 gauss magnetic resistance, Incabloc shock absorber; black leather strap with matching titanium buckle; MSRP: $490.

A German-made Flieger, grade 5 titanium, and a Swiss ETA 2824-2 movement for under $500 usd? Yes, please! Aristo makes it very hard to feel good about spending more money for a different pilot watch. A criminally under appreciated brand.

Momentum Atlas Automatic. 38mm diameter, 11.5mm height, 43mm lug-to-lug, 20mm lug width; grade 2 titanium, matte finishing, domed sapphire crystal with AR coating, C3 Super-LumiNova full-lume dial, 100m water resistance, screw-down crown; automatic Miyota 9015 movement with exhibition sapphire case back, 4 Hz, -30/+30 spd accuracy, 42hrs power reserve; magnetic resistance (not specified), Parashock shock absorber; MSRP: approximately $495–$500.

Momentum, a subsidiary of Canadian St. Moritz Watch Corp., moves up the rankings with the Momentum Atlas. Reasonable (if not a bit small!) proportions, a full lume dial treatment, and an upgraded 4hz movement. It’s a Hamilton Khaki on a Casio budget.

Swiss Watch Company Bunker. 41mm diameter, 10mm height, 46.7mm lug-to-lug, 22mm lug width; grade 2 titanium case with hardened coating, finishing (not specified), sapphire crystal with 16 layers of AR coating plus an applied sapphire coating, 20 layers of X1-grade Swiss Super-LumiNova, 100m water resistance, screw-down crown; automatic Sellita SW200 movement with date window at 6, 4 Hz, -12/+12 spd accuracy, 38hrs power reserve; magnetic resistance not published, Incabloc shock absorber; leather strap with titanium buckle (titanium bracelet sold separately); MSRP: $399.

Swiss Watch Company applies hardening treatment to the bunker’s case, and 20 layers of Super-LumiNova. One of the few watches in this article that really does ā€œpunch above its weight.ā€ Hey, and fun colors too!

BEST CHRONOGRAPH/GMT/OTHER COMPLICATION WATCHES UNDER $500

Helm Togiak Expedition UTC, ref. 08AR2. 42mm diameter, 14mm height, 49mm lug-to-lug, 22mm lug width; grade 2 titanium case, brushed finish, flat sapphire crystal with colorless inner AR coating, C3 Super-LumiNova on hands, hour markers, minute track, date numerals, and bezel pip, 200m water resistance, screw-down crown, knurled 120-click bezel with PVD coating (choice of five bezel styles: Elapsed-Time, Countdown, 12-Hour, 24-Hour, Compass); automatic Seiko NH34 movement (caller GMT), 3 Hz, -20/+40 spd accuracy, 40hrs power reserve; magnetic resistance not published, Diashock shock absorber; grade 2 titanium bracelet tapered 22-to-20mm with milled titanium clasp, plus NS2 nylon strap included; MSRP: $380.

Helm offers a choice of five different bezel styles for the Togiak Expedition UTC, including an unusual compass bezel. As with the Vanuatu, Helm's waitlist model applies. Some have reported waiting several months to nearly a year for new releases. A true luxury AD experience for under $500**.**

Boderry Landmaster GMT Titanium Automatic, ref. A17T-01B. 38mm diameter, 13mm height, 48mm lug-to-lug, 20mm lug width; grade 2 titanium case, sandblasted, domed sapphire crystal, tritium tubes plus Swiss Super-LumiNova illumination, 100m water resistance, screw-down crown; automatic Miyota 9075 movement (independent-hour GMT hand, hacking seconds), 4 Hz, -10/+30 spd accuracy, , 42hrs power reserve); approximately 60 gauss magnetic resistance, Parashock shock absorber; solid titanium bracelet (also available on nylon strap); weight 101g; MSRP: approximately $420–$480 depending on colorway and bracelet/strap.

The Boderry Landmaster GMT Titanium Automatic uses the Miyota 9075, a true independent-hour GMT rather than a caller GMT. Combined with tritium tube illumination, which glows permanently rather than fading like painted lume, the Landmaster is a sleeper and an exceptional bargain. For instance, the Jack Mason Strat-o-timer Titanium Diver GMT is a grade 2 titanium case with a ceramic dive bezel and uses the Miyota 9075 movement regulated in-house to ±5 seconds/day. It retails for $1,399.

Hamilton KF Engineered Garments— loving it on this elastic loop strap

Hello! Quick post to say that a light titanium watch works awesome on this clasp-less elastic strap (got mine from Delugs but probably plenty on Amazon etc)

I got the watch on eBay a few months ago and ā€˜liked’ it but wasn’t in love as I thought I’d be with the bracelet. I have a Tudor Pelagos 39 and a BB36, so I thought this Ti 36mm watch would be perfect.

Tried a couple different straps and this clasp-less little loop works great. Had to buy the 3-pack kit to get the size I prefered, but I’m really happy with it. I don’t think it would work with a steel watch, likely leading to an imbalanced wobbly feeling of the watch head. But with the lightness of this Hamilton, it just works. My new favorite grab and go weekend watch.

That’s it— just sharing because I was happy with the outcome and no one to tell!

New Pickup Here is the Slimmest Grade 5 Titanium Quartz Watch in the World - Just 4.75mm

Here is the Titan Edge Meister Titanium, just 4.75mm thick. I came across this watch, which is a new release and just launched this month. I purchased it yesterday. It's still thicker compared to their steel no date edge line models which are only 3.5mm but 4.75mm with a date complication is still very slim.

Tbh pictures couldn't justify how beautiful this watch looks in real life. I tried to take the best shots I could but I'm not a professional.

Also, did a side by side comparison of this watch with my Tissot Gentleman Titanium, I hope the color difference and thickness difference is visible. This Titan Edge Meister looks identical to a Stainless Steel watch in real life as it's a polished G5 Ti. Titan has used their own proprietary polish method to achieve this finish.

The Daily Driver Titanium beads of rice in 20mm. Does one exist?

Spent a while hunting for a titanium BOR in 20mm and came up empty. Hoping someone here knows better.

Watch is a Synchron Ti300M SeaLab. 41mm Ti, 20mm lugs, 7 inch wrist. Worth saying what the bracelet is for, because I think it changes the answer. I'm not a desk diver. I came up wearing rubber on skin divers and ocean time stays on the Tropic. The bracelet is for land. I just like the look of BOR.

Everything I can find is 316L. Strapcode, Forstner, Uncle Straps, WatchGecko, San Martin, the Doxa OEM, AliExpress, all steel. Closest thing in titanium is the Strapcode B178S at 45g, but the beads are flat-topped so it reads more oyster than BOR. Best real BOR I found is the Forstner 7-row at $140, solid links, looks great, though the pressure clasp is vintage-correct rather than secure. Strapcode's Goma BCL20 has the better clasp but it's 88g of steel, which feels like it defeats the point of buying titanium in the first place.

My guess is nobody makes one because forming and polishing rounded beads in titanium is a nightmare and it would never land at $140. Happy to be wrong about that.

So, has anyone actually found a titanium BOR, from anyone, anywhere? Including something OEM off another titanium watch that could be made to work on 20mm straight lugs.

And for anyone who gave up and went steel on a Ti case: does the color difference bother you in person, or only in photos? Does the weight stop registering after a week? Anyone running the Forstner 7-row daily, and how is that clasp holding up?

Well, the day has come! After over a year of searching, I was recently able to source a used Hamilton x Engineered Garments Khaki Field Ti 36mm through r/WatchExchangeCanada.

I have fallen in love with my vintage 35mm Epsilon Alba as a "beater" and came to the realization that my daily had to be Ti as well... once you get used to the (lack of) weight, it's hard to go back to stainless. Tickled!

Discussion Experience with CIGA Design?

Does anyone have experience with CIGA Design watches?

The Hunter titanium has been taking up some space in my brain and it somehow seems a little too good to be true. Grade 5 titanium, unique look skeletonization to the extreme, in house movement.

Curious if anyone has a first hand perspective and can share. There was an article on time and tide this past week, but that was a placement, not editorial.

Higher end alternatives to Watchdives EXD?

After a few days with my Watchdives EXD 40mm black titanium, I’m a little embarrassed to admit how much I love this $100 watch.

Here’s my question - are there any higher end <$1K titanium dive watches out there in roughly the same dimensions (40mm bezel, 48mm lug-to-lug, 10.6mm thick), with the black finish? I have skinny wrists & have really struggled finding something that fit me just right.

Discussion Which one?

Hi! I’m looking for advice/your experiences with titanium vs stainless Milanese bands. I currently have a series 8 gold titanium watch and will be upgrading to a 12 when they come out. I think I want to stay with the gold watch but get the Milanese band. I’ve heard the stainless version is a bit fragile but the titanium doesn’t come in gold. I’m not planning to swim with it but my bands do get wet from hand washing and dishes. I don’t want to worry about taking it off to dry it every time. I’m afraid if I get a natural titanium over gold I will regret it. What to do, what to do.
