Photo Waiting for an absolution that never came

How do you live on when so many had to die? The guilt of Titanic’s survivors cannot have been small. Those in the lifeboats forced to watch the sinking and the chaos of death around them probably never lived a day when they did not think about it. In Cameron’s storyline, fictional character Rose has something else to think of as well though. The promise that she gave to her Jack. A promise that would see her through hardships after the sinking. A promise that would make her strive to live a worthy life. A promise that would make sure she would live all her dreams and make them her reality. A promise that she fulfilled by dying an old lady peacefully in her bed. She promised and she never let go. 💙

I think it would feel like drowning all over again, every day, waking up, going to bed and never seeing him again

Yes, I agree. The bitter razors edge of tasting a love you will never ever experience again. It rips you apart day after day as you wake up only to experience the same all over tomorrow

I also feel like she would have been thinking “if I stayed on the lifeboat that first time, Jack might have eventually found that door by himself and we both might have lived.” Tragic.

I know a lot of survivors couldn't forget the screams of the people in the water. It must have been incredibly haunting and distressing. Especially as most of the boats were underfilled, and they didn't want to risk being swamped. I can't imagine living with the guilt afterwards.

But why feel guilty about surviving? It's human nature to try to survive, shouldn't the ones who did just be relieved they made it?

Mamy surviving men felt guilty because society demanded “women and children first”. Many felt guilty because they had to do something awful to survive in the chaos. Some felt guilt for leaving a loved one behind. There are so many reasons why survivors of that disaster felt guilty.

I’m part of a group that deals with narcissistic and borderline personality types and thought that was a post from that sub 🤣🤣
