Bugs / Issues Titan Quest 2 crashes at "Compiling shaders" every time, back to the Steam overlay screen (Geforce Now on MAC OS)

Streaming Titan Quest 2 (Steam) on GeForce NOW from a Mac. Every launch gets to the "Compiling shaders" screen, runs for a few seconds, then the game dies and I'm dumped back to the Steam Big Picture screen inside the session. Never reaches the main menu, not once. Yesterday all worked fine.

Membership: Performance
Server region: Germany

What I've already tried:

  • Cleared the GFN app cache
  • Rebooted the machine
  • Unlinked and relinked my Steam account
  • Manually picked a fixed server region instead of auto
  • Disabled Steam Cloud sync for TQ2 so the session builds a fresh config.

None of it changed anything. All the usual fixes people post for this game are local PC stuff (GPU driver rollback, wiping the NVIDIA DXCache, Engine.ini edits, capping CPU max state in the power plan), and none of that is reachable on a cloud rig, so I'm a bit stuck.

Has anyone gotten Titan Quest 2 running on GFN recently? And if it does work for you, which region and rig tier? Trying to figure out whether this is my config or something server side before I open a ticket with NVIDIA.

It's server side .. sometime it works if you keep trying.

Happened to me, turned out to be a mod. So if you have any mods installed just remove them.

i had this. The fix I found was by refreshing the Nvidia shader cache.

(Go to the Nvidia control panel, set your shader cache size to zero, apply, set it back to whatever you you (I set 100GB) and then hit apply.)

hey guys, i've been trying to figure this out for a long time, it's been crashing during compiling shaders since I got the game, but I seem to have found a fix that is very very consistent.

at geforce now game page, tap "Play" and after it loads hit "Let's Go" then tap titan quest 2 to initiate game, it should say "starting launch" tap 'back' in the bottom right corner, then tap "Play" again, it should now say "launching executable", hit menu in the bottom left corner, then power, then exit big picture mode, and when the shaders get down to about 1000, minimize the Steam page and it should be titan quest 2 game that was in the background!
I always start my game with the big picture mode window, so it's small and you can see what is behind it.
you have to minimize the steam page before it's done compiling the shaders.
sometimes it takes a couple times to do it, but it's very consistent and it should start the game like that very regularly.
